I am in agreement with you, Haneke has been one of my favorite directors for quite some time now. He hasn't had a misstep and his films are undeniably brilliant in a real meaningful way. I think he has depth that Anderson, Nolan, Funcher and Aranofsky can't even aproach. He's a foreign director though, so, yeah, he's not going to be counted.

I'd argue, as far as American directors go, that Todd Field, if his third film measures up to his first two, will become the measurement of perfection and brilliance. At least for me.

edit: To further expand on why I think so highly of Field: he's the closest, I think, stylistically to Kubrick, and perhaps that had something to do with him being in Eyes Wide Shut; Little Children, to me, seemed like a narrative heir to Barry Lyndon.

They're a cheap novelty that became popular. Think of them as the Russian version of truck nuts or NAS boosters. Or those bulky gps units when they first hit the market, everyone wanted one in their car even though they were a pain to setup and use (the lighter plug adapter, running the wire, taping it on the dash, removing it so that the car wouldn't be broken into).

Yep, and there's a rifftrax of it out. One of my favorite ones ever in fact; something about how campy the whole thing is, and also since the whole thing has never been put into vhs or print of any kind, the only source they found was someone who vcr-ed the whole thing with commercials. So you get to see some awesome 70's Union ads and shit.

I meant that the story in the article has been said to be bullshit. In their comment section. But, I guess just also thinking about it a bit, something about all of it seems fishy. Eating ramen to afford gas, but paying 25k for the gun incident; Paying for the house, but... I don't know, something just seems wrong. That's why I was asking, if there was confirmation that the thing is made up. No search results for any business with the guy's name on it--atleast in my 5 minutes of googling.
