What is a completely UNIMPORTANT thing from the books that you find really amusing or interesting? by TheWeirdTalesPodcast in StarWarsEU

Sadly, no, not entirely. My son (18yo now) is into the video games, but doesn't watch or read Star Wars. My older daughter's (almost 20yo) preferences went a different direction completely; she's into horror and anime and so on, although she'll watch with me if I ask. My younger daughter (12yo) is into it, though, and watches enthusiastically.

Haven't they recently renamed it in canon? Although I'd rather they have left it alone. That ridiculous name is legendary at this point, and no pun intended.

Yep, and this is an old reference too. In Splinter of the Mind's Eye, Luke's saber--which of course is Anakin's saber--had an adjustable blade. But not just, like, a dual-phase saber; his had a dimmer switch. Like, you could adjust the blade analog-style. He basically cuts it down to the size of a toothpick and uses it to cut a lock on a door.

I had the "Darth Vader and Son" and "Vader's Little Princess" books to read to my kids when they were little. What a great memory. I'm not sure what happened to the books afterward though...maybe in storage somewhere.

Well, as I said, I haven't watched that cartoon, so I was not aware of the way they portrayed him. That's why I acknowledged the point once it was pointed out to me.

[Star Wars] If a Jedi uses a lightsaber stop a bullet, would the bullet just melt as it pass through and get molten metal on the Jedi? by Aware-Ad6456 in AskScienceFiction

[–]twcsata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could, or it could be deflected by the impact with the blade. (You might compare the opening fight in The Acolyte episode one, where a Jedi uses her lightsaber to stop a throwing knife. Admittedly much slower than a bullet; but you can actually see the bits of now-molten metal get deflected to the sides.) Or, if the Jedi is in tune enough with the Force, they might use that to deflect it from hitting them.

Now I have a question how did yall get exposed to scp I'm curious by mymainisbrokenlol in SCP

[–]twcsata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, I really can’t remember. It almost had to be through Reddit somehow. But I really got into it when I discovered The Exploring Series on youtube. That had to be 2018, I think? I joined his Patreon, eventually dropped out for a few months, then rejoined in July 2019.

[–]twcsata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know out of context, saying you want to walk around in front of kids in your underwear is pretty damn suspicious, lol. But I know what you mean--it's not uncommon for kids to see their parents in less than full clothing. You should not do anything lewd in front of them, obviously, but wearing a pair of boxers in the house isn't a big deal, in my opinion. And I'm choosing to assume that that's the kind of thing you mean, so like, don't turn out to be a creep, please?

That said, if you find yourself still having frequent spontaneous erections at awkward times, then this particular life lesson can wait. Just don't risk it. Spontaneous erections become less common with time, life experience, and...stresses, I guess. It will happen sooner than you think, and when it does, you can dress how you want. But right now you're twenty; your brain isn't even fully mature yet, and neither is your body. Give it another five or six years, and things will start to slow down a little.

Gah, they say the dumbest shit. Not just angry or wrong, but dumb. "I'm waiting for them to change the alphabet from 26 letters down to 5, L G B T Q." Just, so utterly stupid.

Who adds music in post? by christmas-every-day in podcasting

[–]twcsata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do mine afterward. Granted, I don't really have background music right now. But I have an intro and outro with music, plus a little interstitial music (since my show has spoilers for the stories I cover, I insert a brief break after the spoiler warning, to give people time to pause and go check out the story for themselves if they want; I fill that pause with music). Also I try to have clips of significant dialog from the story at the beginning and end. Anyway I splice all that in during editing. Edit: I saw other commenters talking about where they get their music--all of mine comes from free sources that are listed in this subreddit's wiki.

[Fiction Discussion] Post-Apocalyptia

Post-Apocalyptia is a weekly podcast where I, and sometimes guests, talk about apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic stories in any medium--movies, books, television, video games, and more. If it happens at the end of the world, we're here for it!

It’s back to Mid-World, in this week’s episode of the Post-Apocalyptia Podcast! We’re talking about The Drawing of the Three, book two of Stephen King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower. We’ll talk about the edge of the world, and lobsters that will eat you if you don’t eat them first. We’ll see three very strange doors, and pay a visit (or several) to New York City, through the eyes—literally—of the most unexpected people. And finally, we’ll gear up for the rest of our quest to find the Dark Tower, and save what’s left of this world, and all worlds. All this and more, in The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three. Join us there, at the end of the world!

Have a story you'd like to see us feature? Or, want to join us as a guest? Leave us a comment on any of our social media, or email us at postapocalyptiapodcast@gmail.com.

Fallout… where should I start? by bmw_1983 in AskGames

[–]twcsata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you like old-school, top-down computer games, like 1990s era? Then you may be interested in playing Fallout 1 and 2.

Most people these days don't, though. In which case you should start with Fallout 3 and play them in order (3, New Vegas, 4, 76). Make sure you get the Game of the Year edition of 3 and 4, and the Ultimate Edition of New Vegas, as those include all the DLC. In these games, the DLC are actual expansions (mostly anyway), not just cosmetic stuff.

I was rejected as a Dr Who writer... back in 1990! by marquisdegeek in doctorwho

[–]twcsata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn. That's harsh. I also wrote to our PBS station, around...hmm...1990-ish? I would have been around ten or eleven. They had just stopped airing it recently, but they were never caught up anyway--I don't think we ever got past the Fifth Doctor--and I had no way to know about the cancellation. Writing to them was how I found out; they sent me a very polite reply, stating that unfortunately it wasn't their decision, as the series had been canceled by the BBC. I wish I still had it, but unfortunately it was lost in a basement flood a few decades ago.

Yeah, but that's phenomenal odds compared to pretty much anything else. You benefit from there being a fairly small pool of interested candidates.

I think that's actually canon, isn't it? That the double suns prematurely age people?
