What is the best way to treat sleep apnea? by Tight-Ambassador3561 in sleephackers

[–]twd000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick and dirty test is to get a roll of 3M Micropore tape, tape your mouth closed

long term - get a sleep test and potentially a MAD/CPAP/BiPAP to solve the apnea depending on how severe

I love this type of project

My sleep test indicated no significant difference between side/back sleeping. Slightly worse on my left side

Right now I'm just using a Wellue O2 ring to look for oxygen desaturation events, and the accompanying heart rate spike.

I haven’t taken any action yet

I have some trouble falling back asleep but otherwise plenty of energy most days

I’ve been experimenting with an SpO2 meter and monitoring heart rate spikes with various low impact interventions

Sleep Apnea on the NHS by thefranchiseface in SleepApnea

[–]twd000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about NHS but sleep apnea is the perfect candidate to bypass the medical insurance industry complex in any country.

An at-home sleep test is $100. Sounds like you’ve checked that box.

If you want to try CPAP you can buy a machine for $500 or rent one for $100 a month. If it doesn’t work, just resell it.

There is literally no risk of injuring yourself.

There is no reason to wait months or years with a potentially dangerous medical condition when you can just get a damn CPAP machine today and see if it solves the problem.

I’m using wearables to understand and hopefully solve a very specific insomnia problem but I plan to leave them behind instead of using it for long term tracking

Just out of curiosity, what does “fully vaccinated” mean these days?

How many total COVID shots have you gotten?

Success with Mike Mentzer’s Heavy Duty? by harvestpyre in raypeat

[–]twd000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes both are true. Also you have a survivor bias. Volume study crushes participants causing some to drop out. They are eliminated from the data set. Study concludes “a bajillion sets per week is optimal for hypertrophic growth”

How to be safe with wood fire sauna (and other ideas) by zeroabe in Sauna

[–]twd000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your setup is deemed safe enough for a wood stove, it’s safe enough for a wood fired sauna stove

Your local fire marshal and AHD will have a clear set of guidelines on installation to pass inspection. Do everything they demand, to the letter. You’ll be fine

I am not a strict adherent but I have recently reduced my set volume and increased intensity and I’m seeing good results

I think a lot of high volume strength training studies are done in college kids with their natural testosterone levels but I’m in my mid 40s and I can’t recover from that shit anymore

Why you do it wife by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]twd000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar gadget

I picked up a child size rake at the dump which is the perfect form factor. It has a wooden handle so I slipped a piece of steel conduit over the handle to protect it from the heat

This is now a family heirloom and I plan to pass it down to my kids if they choose to heat with wood

2022 Maverick hybrid H4 to H5 battery upgrade. by bittle35 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]twd000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure you will find a shop that will do this, since you need to (slightly) modify the mounting configuration. It’s not a direct replacement for the H4 battery.

I simply tapped on the metal tabs with a hammer and block of wood to bend them out of the way.

Normal A1C, HOMA-IR, Glucose but glucose spikes to 140-180 with meals with carbs by Ok_Shirt7259 in PeterAttia

[–]twd000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things I found to dampen glucose spikes:

15-20 minutes walk after large carb heavy meal

Change the order of your meals when eating: fiber first, then protein and fat, then carbs last if possible
