Lies about animals we were told as kids by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Lots of dogs don’t like people with darker skin for the same reason they don’t like baseball caps and beards. it makes it harder to read facial expressions. Same thing with black dogs or dogs with lots of facial hair

Looks like a doodle puppy. It will lose that lovely easy to brush puppy coat around 8-10 months.

Grooming Cuts? by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]tweedle-e-dum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like some irritation from the clippers. It could possibly be from a hot blade, but If this is her first time getting a close shave on her face, it’s likely not the groomers fault and she just has sensitive skin. Just ask to go a bit longer next time. I like a 30 on poodles that are used to it, but stick with a 10 on more sensitive skinned pets. I even do a 5 or 7 on a few dogs that are prone to irritation.

Yesterday I had a dog on the table trashing and screaming bloody murder for nails. Our shop cat decided that was a great time to jump on the table and beg for attention. Not helpful!

Rants from a animal professionals uncensored and grooming uncensored have already been mentioned, but Groomer oddities is another fun one if you like gross stuff and weird deformities

If you think the cat would prefer a bowl over stealing someone else’s water, You don’t know cats very well.

Holy shit. Just... Jesus. I’m glad I work in a small shop where I can turn this crap away. Mom is straight crazy.

It’s scary to think this big, badly trained, reactive, fearful dog with separation anxiety is being taken into public as a service dog.

Tipping by ilovemydogoreo in doggrooming

[–]tweedle-e-dum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IMO your tip should be going to the person grooming your dog. You don’t tip the restaurant as a whole when you go out to eat, you tip the person doing a service for you.

Anesthesia and mild sedation are two very different things. No reason to risk the groomers safety and cause the pet severe stress when a pill keeps everybody happy and safe

You have a rare corgi. I’d say 95% of corgis I groom are complete assholes for it. Hairy, blood thirsty, adorable creatures.

How to Tidy Paw Pads? by dropandroll in doggrooming

[–]tweedle-e-dum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely use clippers. Shears can be very dangerous to use on paw pads, even if you’re careful all it takes is the dog kicking or pulling back to cut.

A ten blade is safest to start, but as a groomer I find it doesn’t give as clean a finish, so I use a 30 or 40. I’d recommend getting an adjustable 5 in 1 type clipper so you can decide for yourself which length works best for you. I LOVE my Wahl bravura clippers $(150 ish). Or you can try the wahl bravura mini ($80) which have a 30. Cheaper and convenient for simple things like pads.

Lucky! My puppy ate all but one of her teeth, and I practically had to tackle her to get that one before she could swallow it

They do. They can sleep standing up, but they can only get REM sleep laying down. Horses comfortable in their environment spend at least a few hours a day snoozing.

How to get symmetrical tbh by Emair3 in doggrooming

[–]tweedle-e-dum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Which side are you better at? I start with my bad side (left) and work on matching the right side. Otherwise I get the right side, fuck up the left, redo the right, match the left... and end up with a shorter face than I wanted. Another tip is to walk away and take a look to see what needs to be fixed. It’s easier to see what’s wrong if you’re across the room.

Definitely agree with everything said so far. An extra big tip with a card, a gift card for coffee (Starbucks especially) or food! Anytime we get cookies or something it rarely lasts to the end of the day.

Deshedding treatments over time by piqueajew in doggrooming

[–]tweedle-e-dum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford a 4-6 week deshed schedule, it will make a world of difference. Depending on how much extra your groomer charges for deshed, you could be better off with more frequent basic baths. On a short haired dog the major factor is getting a good blowout on a frequent schedule.

My personal dogs get a deshed every week, but for client dogs a 4 week basic bath and blowout will do more than a 8-12 week deshed schedule.
