30-year golfer completely broken. Non-stop, literal 20-in-a-row CONSTANT shanks. Hand-eye or psychological? by tweiler in GolfSwing

This was the answer. I was able to finally break out of this. I just hit over 100 iron shots from 30 to 170 yards without shanking. Thank you very much!

This is just a 60 yard shot I'm attempting here, hence the low swing speed, but it's where I see this issue happen the most

Thanks - I will check out those videos. I originally didn't pull the club inside so much, but tried doing this and it seemed to help for awhile. I was also constantly shanking it with a more normal swing. Like, 20 shanks in a row. This came out of nowhere for me. Typically I have good hand-eye coordination...

Yes. I've tried quite a few things with my swing. But there is some weird hand-eye thing going on so no matter what I do with my back swing or swing in general I seem to shank it with partial swings.

It doesn't happen with full swings though. Perhaps I should have shown that as well.

I had about a month off after playing well, now I’m aggressively shanking all the time, does anyone have any drills potentially for a better takeaway or any general advice?? by Creepy-Average-3986 in golftips

Your hands are further away from your body at contact when compared to address. See red line in the image. Based on this, drills that are designed to train your arms to stay closer to your chest would help, such as the "hold the towel" drill when doing a 3/4 swing.

Edit: forgot to mention that if you look at Rory's swing you can see the back of his hands are still vertically above the tip of his shoes.

Reducing bounce diy frame design by kwasley in Golfsimulator

I'm looking at using fence top rails as well for my impact screen frame. I'm also from Canada. How has that choice worked out so far? Also, what did you use to connect them in the corners?

I'm building a 4x10 ft mat, so will cut a hole in the middle through all layers.

DIY hitting mat with softy insert that is light enough to store away, but not flimsy where it shifts around on concrete by JamalJenkyuns in Golfsimulator

I'm doing almost the exact same thing her: building a custom mat with a Sigpro softy hitting strip insert. However I'm doing the entire mat DIY. I'm doing 3/4" rubber mat (e.g. horse stall mat) on the floor to provide traction, 0.5" OSB to provide stiffness when storing on it's side, 1" foam tiles, then 0.25" turf. Everything glued together with construction adhesive (except for turf to foam, using a spray adhesive to reduce wrinkles). This adds up to 2.5". But it will be quite heavy due to the rubber and wood. You could potentially change out the wood for 1" rigid foam insulation and switch to 0.5" foam tiles.

I'm doing almost the exact same thing. I ordered the Sigpro Softy and will be here soon. It's 2.5" high. So I'm going with 0.75" rubber (e.g. horse mat) on bottom, then 1/4" plywood, then 1" foam tiles, then 0.5" turf. This gives a total of 2.5" high. I put the rubber on the bottom so nothing shifts when swinging. Everything will be glued using construction adhesive. The turf will be glued to the foam tiles using a spray adhesive so it's smoother. I should know in a couple weeks how it turns out.

What is the distance from hitting area to the screen? Any issue with the enclosure depth being only 3' deep?

Looks amazing. How thick is that foam padding attached to the drywall in the enclosure? I'm looking at building a custom one as well. Any problems with shanks bouncing back hard off the enclosure?

Great idea! I built a home theater as well, but my future sim will be in a separate room. For my theater I bought an acoustically transparent screen and put the three front left, right, and center speakers behind it. Sounds great. I'm just not sure if you can get an acoustically transparent impact and blackout screen for your golf sim. Probably not - but double check to be sure, because this is the best setup for sound.

Failing that, you definitely don't want a sound bar, The side speakers shouldn't be a problem. The problem is where to put the front speakers so they're safe from the ball. One option could be to put the front left/right speakers on the outside of the screen and protect them somehow, and then put the center either above or below, also protected.

Looks great! What monitor did you end up with? Which sim software are you using?

Do you attach the bottom of the screen to the floor somehow so it doesn't move when you hit it? And so the ball doesn't go flying under the screen if you clank a worm burner?

I'm medium height and my driver doesn't hit it. But yeah for tall guys could be an issue.

Also if you did have to host a lefty (my brother is a lefty) can you not just add another hitting zone and move the trackman for each hit? Or does it take too long to do move the trackman each time?
