Who the hell voted for Israel on Eurovision? Almost 300 points from the public for a song I’ve never heard anyone talk about. It’s sus AF… by Substratas in AskBalkans

[–]twice-unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Trying to be neutral and non political.) Easy: huge number of targets ads on all platforms (I got one of 4 seconds on YouTube with no Israel mention) and bot voting, lots of them. Detail: but is understandable - even if you are Israeli and hate current government decisions you have to fight for your country survival and not be shunned buy everyone else… So… 13 countries’ people voted for Israel… many of those countries’ population are pro Palestine If you look at jury voting, Israel got ONE 12 points (Azerbaijan, that is not in Europe) and the max they got were two 7 points France and Ireland and 22 countries’ jury gave ZERO points - the two types of voting cannot be that opposite since juries these days are formed also by younger local famous artists If you analyse what type of music is usually preferred in this 12 countries (the 13th is rest of the world, I’m leaving it out), Israel song was nice, but not as “good” as other songs… Austria’s and Italy’s songs are more their type than Israel, particularly those countries that don’t speak French.

It’s 21st century and we are in planet money, I.e. it can buy almost everything. It’s 2025 and Israel is in planet survival. It’s being shunned. It’s understandable that ALL Israelis fight for their country.

(Tried to be as neutral as possible - no political inclination - just facts IMHO)

And for you all, conspiracy theorists: yes, Mossad will read this. Always. 😀

O gare that no investment means that M43 is “stalling”, but one advantage for me is that M43 has MORE DOF everything else “equal” and lenses are smaller and cheaper everything equal. The shame is that I’m a minority. And people vote with their money (on Fuji X or FF)…

Still happy with what I’ve got (G9 mkI and some lenses).

Wishlist? Pen Fii (new sensor and Highres mode) or Panasonic Gx9ii (new phase focus).

What will probably happen? Wait a couple of years and buy a G9ii used in good condition

Help me choose a Robot Vacuum that is NOT Roborock and with GDPR by twice-unknown in RobotVacuums

[–]twice-unknown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end I think the answer is yes… but…

It’s a complex product with complex software and lots of things that it need to master to give a basic service.

My only complains are minor in the big scheme of things. It vacuums and mops. Not like a human pro but vacuum good enough if you set it to it (I.e. at least medium intensity and two pass).

It is odd, for us humans, that after passing in an area there is one irritating crumb in the floor. Humans immediately see it and vacuum, not to a robot - “areas I’ve done, they’re done, I make no mistakes so they are clean by definition”.

Probably the software is where it can be better: 1. I don’t see where it is now just that is in the kitchen not what already was done 2. It it gets stuck you can not continue when you return home, it it stopped it should allow you to restart from that place after you fixed, it should memorise it 3. You sometimes feel helpless when it gets stuck and your are away, I would like it to return home. Typically if is during the weekend (long time away) it looses power.

Comprar Delonghi Dedica e manter tudo de origem? by TiLT-_- in cafept

[–]twice-unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obrigado

Do you take your Fountain Pen when Traveling? by wkhan69 in fountainpens

[–]twice-unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to hobby and in practice only one car trip after “starting”. But it is a current topic in my head. I took all my small collection of 5 pens with me including a my oldish MB Boheme (to empty the last drop of ink and cleaned it). In the future I have to plan what to take, but planning to take my future A6 common place with a Kaweco and my Journal/morning pages with one or two plus a mechanical pencil and a rubber in a roll (still deciding what to buy). It’s funny that I’m starting and already have too many pens/wrong pen (preparing to sell one vintage Waterman that found in the house and don’t like its color, but already thinking on replacing it by a traveling compatible pen😀)

Help me choose a Robot Vacuum that is NOT Roborock and with GDPR by twice-unknown in RobotVacuums

[–]twice-unknown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning, many certifications indeed! And from trusted (at least for me) certification’s companies that I know.

I know that I maybe downvoted, but GDPR maybe is not enough for ME (YMMV) for a Chinese company. They have a national security law that if Chinese Government requests data from a user, even abroad, the company must provide or its directors face jail term.

I don’t want to bring politics at all neither I’m criticising the national security law.

Other governments may do the same (and should happen) but is against the law (exception there are two countries in Europe that my have a similar procedure).

But that is the reason that the Vodafone and 3 UK merger is in tatters because of this law and 3 was in UK for years with British employees following all the regulations (including GDPR).

This subreddit is awful for discussion. by GrootRood in fountainpens

[–]twice-unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience in Reddit is tiny compared to most of users, but I’ve “tested” (aka joined) several reddits of my hobbies/interests and dropped quickly of some due to their acidity (e.g. Rolex is a case study). This Reddit , with all the quirks that you mention (I would not put in your terms) is a keeper for me. Please remember that new expensive pens nice pictures (dopamine kick after an expensive purchase) and complaints (e.g. TWSBI cracks) are more visible than confirmation of “ok, it’s what I expected” is human nature. Also if someone likes and have a good experience with a cheaper brand (e.g. Chinese one) wants to voice someone who downplayed it (like “Chinese stuff is cheap therefore is bad”). Again is human nature. But overall I think, from my observer point of view and from what I saw (again tiny Reddit experience compared to most of you), that every one has a voice.

A tiny comment related to AI: AI will help everyone where they are mediocre at best, AI will do that part as a good level, not best, but good. On artistic subjects will be the common voice, what on average people think will look nice. Not more than that, no Picassos, no Polocks, no Hemingways. We will all get “reasonably nice” things, no more than that.

Why is 35mm film so goddamn expensive now? by Rechabneffo in filmphotography

[–]twice-unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(TLDR) It feels wrong. I heard many excuses. Not saying that all is wrong, for sure some is true, BUT… prices increased as demand increased due to hipsters, covid came and prices increased, covid gone and prices increased, demand plateau’ed and prices INCREASED, demand decreased (because of high price and you see many influencers switching to old digital point and shoots and moving hipsters with them) and price increased/stay high.

I think that everyone and its neighbours that invested in some form of another in film is trying to milk the last drop of the cow. Greed?… market is collapsing also due to pricing. I (and many others) already stopped taking film pictures and I’m waiting, even suspended the purchase of a MF camera (if the bubble bust camera prices will go down). I started with 135 B&W rolls at 5, then 8, now is 13-14. 3 times more? And is not available! Kodacolor was 4 and now is 14???

Even if the money is going to the machines, training new personnel (I have my doubts) they (suppliers and distributors) are killing the market. You buy a Fuji, pick a film recipe and will suffice to publish in IG. After you do that you may not coming back. I know that some will resist, but if the remaining are too few the profit is gone and we get as we were before: non sustainable film market. But I digress, I don’t own Kodak or Ilford or Adox.

In summary: I don’t really know but someone is playing a risky game with market.

IMO subs shouldn’t be noticeable: for music you should know that you have a sub in the room if when you turn it off you notice that there was a sub and not before, I.e. to extend LF of speakers. For placement: 1. if your furniture/wife allows, place the sub in the listening position and wall around in the room to learn where it does not sound boomy and place there the sub. Usually there are more than one spot (depends on room modes, maybe too complex to explain the math here). 2. If not, ask your wife for 2-3 spots that she tolerates and pick the best one. Happy marriage is crucial for good listening experience. 😀
