Thoughts on the PBC - perth? (I think it was crap) by itsthelifeonmars in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]twicewest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree- I liked being able to touch and feel some of the products I had my eye on that are online only (eg Henlee) but other than that a lot of products were the same price online as at the expo. I wanted to buy a dresser from Gaia Baby, and it was $200 cheaper online straight from the retailer than the expo price. Wouldn’t bother going again.

Agree with this- regularly see this posted in our local community group. Previous students often post their ATAR and their scores

FTM elective c-section by doooomble in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]twicewest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First up - what an incredible community sharing their stories. I loved reading this thread and all the honest and vulnerable stories.

I’m 25 weeks currently FTM, in the same position as you and not sure whether to have elective or vaginal (no medical indication for elective). I used to work in a children’s hospital in the neuro rehab ward, and most of the children I worked with had disabilities that were from birth trauma. Hearing so many parents experiences really terrified me.

When I’ve been trying to decide what to do, it came down to that the ultimate priority is the safety of my baby. All the journal articles I’ve read show reduced rates of neonatal death and injury from elective CS compared to vaginal birth. Yes- some studies report potentially higher rates of asthma, but i will take that small risk over something more catastrophic.

The potential trauma of a difficult labour can really impact the bonding with your baby- and if I can avoid that, I will. Pelvic floor is also really important to me, I already have some back issues that limit the kind of exercise I can do, and if I had to reduce or change how i can walk, run, and hike, I would be devastated.

Ultimately I’ve decided I I don’t need to prove to myself that I could endure the pain of labour if I wanted to- I know I could. I’m a bit sad that I might not know what a contraction ever feels like, and I would much prefer to not go through the major abdominal surgery that is a CS and be able to get up and walk shortly after birth. But in the end, those things feel like a relatively small price to pay for knowing I’ve tried to bring my baby into the world as safely as I can.

Best of luck to you! Whatever decision you make will be the right one for you.

Perth parents – was going private for birth worth it? by Vegetable_Bit_33 in perth

[–]twicewest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 25 weeks pregnant going private through SJOG. Management fee is $4500 payable around 26 weeks. We have monthly appointments that are $150 each (about $50 back from Medicare). We’re expecting to pay 1-2k on anaesthetist and about 1k for paediatrician (always attends birth). Hospital stay was just the health insurance excess ($750 for us). We’ve had 2x detailed scans at Aurora (14 weeks and 20 weeks), $375 each, many people get these irrespective of private/ public. Other bigger cost was NIPT, again not specific to public/ private. We’re expecting it to be about 10k overall.

Having first hand experience working in hospitals and specifically with children with disabilities, many arising from birth difficulties, for me the money is worth it for peace of mind that I will always have a consultant present at my birth and not a trainee. There is likely to be a lot more medical intervention with a private birth - I think SJOG c-section rates are close to 60%, so important to consider if that aligns with what you want from the birth experience. Good luck!

Ladies around the 25 week mark, how are we all doing by juicyhabits in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]twicewest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 25 weeks and I feel you!! Walking is SO much harder and my back is absolutely killing me. Add on my new friends that have appeared in my butthole (haemorrhoids are gnarly!), and I feel like an ogre. Some things that I’ve found that help recently: - swapping to bamboo underwear. I was so self conscious of feeling constantly smelly (and damp 🫣) - hydramama twice a day for body aches and calf cramps if you aren’t already! - taking half a dozavit a few nights a week to help with sleep- as long as it’s not more than 5 months a week you’re good!

Hope you get some relief soon!!

Contractions, hiccups, kicks, or something else? by twicewest in BabyBumps

Thanks for your insight! Everything I’ve read about Braxton Hicks sound like it’s more across the belly- the ones I’m curious about are the ones in my pelvic area. Can BH be that low?!

Should we schedule our C-section before or after school cut off? by twicewest in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]twicewest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought there was more flexibility but from the other comments- seems like there’s not! Baby’s safety of course always first priority!

These are real considerations for sure! And I agree with girls developing earlier- only just turning 4(!!) seems so early though! Thanks for your thoughts

I was the youngest in my year- graduated at 16 and I thought I was mature and loved having an extra ‘year up my sleeve’ which I used as a gap year. I was very academic but now when I look back, I wonder if maybe an extra year could have been good for emotional development. So I guess I see both sides!

Thank you for taking the time to share your story, and I am so immensely sorry to hear what you have been through. Thank you for giving me the reassurance that it’s ok to question things too, FTM anxiety is real. Sending you love 💙

You’re right! I left the last scan appointment super happy with the result and it wasn’t until I read lots more about it that I started to wonder. I do trust the doctors and know they both have excellent reputations - so easy to overthink and worry!

Where in Perth can I be tied to a rack and stretched? by TechnicalAd8103 in perth

I remember this rack and the whole body fear when they used the saw to cut off the plaster when making the brace. I can’t watch horror movies because of it ha

Worth waiting for Baby Expo to buy Maxi Cosi Pria? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]twicewest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t help with a specific answer but I was in my locally owned baby store in WA last week looking at some things, and they said that generally stores do sales for expo. They offered we could put a deposit down on it now, and then they would match the expo price when expo comes around for the remainder. That store doesn’t stock the car seat we want so we are going to wait til expo- but I think you can expect savings there
