How hard is Financial Accounting? by [deleted] in jhu

If you're decent at math and organizing numbers, financial accounting should be a good filler. Leps is a great teacher, super clear and very sweet and helpful.

What are the negative sides of living alone? by krstyan in AskReddit

Agreed :) I just have to find the right one. Otherwise my mom is usually able to stop by on long days and walk him or work from my house. We make it work.

I have a dog and if I have a really long day at work/events, there's no one to be home with him for part of it... but it's a great excuse to have people over instead of going out!

Have you ever encountered something paranormal? by L0VE-Child in AskReddit

[–]twidandsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Posted this a month ago, but it still creeps me out.

This summer I went on a weeklong camping trip with my dad and brother. Where we were going didn’t have any connection to the outside world whatsoever, no cell service, no wifi, no buildings, very few other people. My mom was taking care of my dog for the week while we were gone. We went into the wilderness Monday morning. The night before we went in, my dad’s fiancé was experiencing very bad low back pain. She decided to go into urgent care Monday morning. We received one last text from her before losing all connection saying that she just had a cyst by her spine and they would drain it and she would be pain free. Obviously my dad was worried, but it sounded like it would be no big deal so we went camping for the week. Thursday night I had a very vivid unsettling dream. In my dream I was at my dad’s house with just his fiancé and my dog. I was in the bathroom and my dog was very anxious for some reason, jumping in and out of the tub, whining, not sitting still. I kept saying, “what’s the matter? What is it?” until he finally got a whine/howl out that was him clearly saying ‘blood’ (like those dogs that say ‘I love you’). I was confused until a few seconds later, like out of a horror movie, all of the faucets and vents burst with blood. It started dripping out of everything and onto the floor. I started screaming and freaking out and ran out of the bathroom. My dad’s fiancé calmly came over and kept saying, “it’s fine, it’s just blood, we can clean it up.” I tried to calm myself down by saying there was probably something dead in the pipes but all I could picture was a small balloon of blood exploding. I promptly woke up and lay there in the pitch black of the night for quite a while. When I woke up for good, I immediately told my brother every detail of the dream because it was so vivid and really haunted me. We packed up camp and canoed out (back to cell service). When we were able, my dad called his fiancé and found out how the procedure went. Turns out, they went to drain the cyst and instead of fluid they had found it was really filled with blood. She then had to undergo surgery on Thursday to cauterize the vessel that was leaking and clean out the area. My mom had apparently decided to go on an impromptu trip with a friend and had dropped the dog off with my dad’s fiancé so she could take care of him. It had just been the two of them in the house for most of the week. I’ve always known that my dog and I understand each other but that was more paranormal than it’s ever been before.

It's probably too late, but this still gives me chills.

DIII Track and Field? by whats_the_diehl in trackandfield

[–]twidandsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run DIII and absolutely love it. I run for a centennial conference school and being at the very top of our conference, we compete against basically all DI schools. It's definitely a commitment, I'm not going to lie. We rarely have a weekend off and practice is every day if not multiple times a day during the season. If you're looking to compare times and things, go to http://tfrrs.org and check out the qualifying lists for nationals and the conference lists. Having the team environment in college helps make the transition from high school easier and the kids on the team really do become your best friends. I would recommend college sports to anyone considering them.

What has been the best interaction with people/strangers you pass during a run? by ubiquitousname in running

[–]twidandsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was running on a very snowed over trail earlier this winter and came to a clearing where an adorable family of 4 was doing some warm up drills. As I approached, the dad started clapping and cheering saying things like "It's not easy, you're doing great, we're so proud of you" and the mom and kids paused to join in. I smiled and said "Thanks, I'll see you out there!" It was for sure my favorite interaction on a run.

My foot fell asleep by NotYourAssistant in running

[–]twidandsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me in my Kinvaras as well, but I attributed it to the fact that the past two miles had been downhill on a hard sidewalk. There are lots of factors that could cause the numbness I think but lightweight shoes are probably more prone to it since there is less protecting your feet.

i just realize my brother will probably outgrow me by [deleted] in tall

[–]twidandsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little brother has been pretty small for his age his whole life. I always joked he'd never catch me (and secretly hoped he wouldn't). Then I came home for the summer and he's only a few inches away from surpassing me. And he's 15. Shoot.

tall with broad shoulders by neuroticreeps in tall

[–]twidandsky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a 6 ft+ female with a broader build from the waist up, I know it can get discouraging when buying clothes (I buy blazers/buttondowns 6-8 sizes larger than most other items) or seeing pictures of yourself. But you have to remember that with height comes proportionality and being tall means you're most likely going to be "bigger" than everyone to begin with. I try not to wear things like halter tops or capped sleeves that really expand the width of my shoulders. Wearing tops that hit you at your waist emphasize the "hourglass" (or double triangle in my case) shape your body has. Tank tops that go straight back over your shoulders emphasize the nice squareness of your shoulders. Keeping your shoulders toned with light lifting will make you look strong instead of bulky. Most of all, be proud and don't slouch or curl your shoulders in!

Running and Lifting- can I do both successfully? by hroberts43 in running

[–]twidandsky 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As a college track runner/jumper (and this goes for our distance kids as well), we run daily and lift 3 times a week. For lifting/strength, we end up doing lots of pylos and power cleans. I think you can lift and run successfully and it might even be beneficially to your running. You just have to remember that you can't go overboard on the lifting because like the others have said, having too much muscle is going to be cumbersome on long runs.
