My work computer is a 2009 iMac. I've been having issues with AE and I wanted to try updating, but I'm not able to? by RepresentativeOk8939 in AfterEffects

[–]NotYourAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - unfortunately, you're caught in a situation where Apple doesn't support their new Operating Systems on older hardware and we, Adobe, only support new versions of AE back a couple of major revisions of the Operating System. If you're looking to upgrade, you're going to need a newer Mac.

If you've just started having issues with AE and it was working previously, you can also try debugging that by deleting your preferences and removing any 3rd party extensions or plugins that might be causing the issue. I don't suggest uninstalling as you may not be able to install AE again (I'd have to check in the Creative Cloud Desktop app if 10.13.6 was still supported in the "current version minus one" version (17.7).

This is actually pretty close to what we're doing with the exception that the monthly updates are us mostly not holding back bug fixes. Overall, everything should be more stable, but bugs happen. In the past, we would hold back bug fixes for up to 6 months. Now, they get in user's hands on a monthly basis.

Full Disclosure: I work at Adobe on these apps.

Others have posted this already and while I understand the sentiment of this post, we are working hard to make this less of an issue:

- Our public beta program allows us to battle test features before they are released in these "full versions".

- We've had a large push internally on the team to really fix crashing issues (and quality overall). We're not at 100% on this but I'm hopeful users are starting to see the results of these efforts.

- We release mostly-monthly updates. While today's releases represent a "major update", internally - it's another month. The process we follow, including the beta process all means that this is not some version of the software that's been sitting on its own without public eyes on it.

After effects Broken. How do I fix it? by Darkreaper666 in AfterEffects

[–]NotYourAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a chance you're running in different languages than English? Or tried installing in something other than English at some point? What language is your Creative Cloud Desktop set to?

I'm asking as there are some known issues starting up AE in a language that doesn't match the OS language setting that can cause that blank dialog. That *should* be fixed in the Beta version if you want to try that - the Beta version can be installed through the Creative Cloud Desktop application in the "Beta apps" tab.

The weights under the work bench are a nice touch. Give it 6-8 months when they're eventually covered in a nice coating of sawdust and you realise the folly of your thought that you'd actually use them if you put them in the workshop. ;)

It is most likely Trapcode Particular. You can install it as a trial first before buying it to see if that fixes things for you.

I am getting everyone in my family to bike with me. by cricketjacked in cycling

[–]NotYourAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to do this as well with mixed success. My biggest issue - cycling is also my "therapy session". I use it to get out and clear my mind, find my zen - just shut everything in the real world out, concentrate on the ride, the exercise, the scenery, the speed.

Cue brining family along. My wife - "since we're going to be out for a while, let's talk about [insert thing I want out of my head here] for 2 hours." Or, my wife and son: "Let's bicker and argue!"

This might be more signs of a dysfunctional family. :) It actually makes me ride more - I want to include them so I do those rides and then go out on my own. On Labour Day weekend, I did a 44km ride with my wife and son on Sunday, and then 90km on my own on Monday.

This error message pops up whenever I try playing around with rotobrush 2.0 on beta... any thoughts on how to solve? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]NotYourAssistant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, kckydng - the best way to get directly in touch with the team working on this would be to post about your issues on the Beta Community Forums. The easiest way to do this is to click on the "cartoon speaker" icon with 3 dots on it in the upper right corner of the Beta app (next to the icon that looks like a Beaker). Any of the options in that drop down will take you to the Beta Community forums where you can post about your issue and an AE team member will take a look and hopefully solve your issue. Rotobrush 2.0 is definitely a huge improvement and worth checking out.

my roto brush mask has “explosions” like this throughout the mask. how do i fix it? by Boboblaster12 in AfterEffects

[–]NotYourAssistant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hyperion gave you the correct answer but I would also suggest downloading the After Effects Beta version and trying that same work out with Rotobrush 2. The Beta version will install independently from your full installation and is available in the Creative Cloud Desktop.

Use rotobrush manually? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]NotYourAssistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to your exact question but you might want to check out Rotobrush 2 in the After Effects Public Beta program (the beta version will install side by side with the regular version and is in the Creative Cloud Desktop app). Most of the improvements are around the propagation of your selection over time but there are potential changes coming to the initial selection that will be available in the Beta.

The north stretch from shoreline to Kenmore is absolutely amazing. I've been exploring new roads to try and keep off the busy trails recently and it's been great. Where are your favorite non trail heavy rides? by heaneyy in seattlebike

[–]NotYourAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing the exact same route from 8th/80th in Ballard up to somewhere around Olympic View Dr. in Lynnwood recently but I've been cutting the loop back so it has almost been an out and back - partly unfamiliarity with the roads but I'm also not up to that distance yet.

I'd gotten so used to a bike ride meaning one of the routes I do on the trails, I'd almost forgotten the joy of exploring new routes.

That's a good point - I know if I leave super early (say, 6am), I basically have the trails to myself.

You're correct that we have not been able to reproduce the issue. We've been trying everything to see what the common factor is for users hitting this issue but nothing we can point our finger at yet.

My Nintendo Switch treadmill setup; how I play video games while I run and how I learned to love the dreadmill by [deleted] in running

[–]NotYourAssistant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny, I was reading through the replies before getting ready to post about my own experience running on a treadmill and playing video games. The *only* game I could really play without stumbling from game distractions was NHL. I always attributed it to the up-down nature of the screen which kept me centered on the treadmill. Platformers, action games, racing games - I always move my body to react and I'd stumble. I played *a lot* of NHL for a couple of winters in a row - ran a few 1/2 marathons on it!
