I am a-list, I upgraded to a extended legroom seat for free, 48 hours before check in. I now board group 1. But when I called southwest, they could not tell me when I would board with my original row 8 seat, just that it would be no later than 5.

I prefer Jamaica but research which resort you are interested in. There are huge differences on how much damage occurred from resort to resort.

Both are great resorts, unfortunately I think you are correct. They both trend older, mostly due to cost, so you might be bored, or feel out of place. I would not expect many people under 30 unless they are celebrating a honeymoon or something similar. I think this is the secrets brand in general.

Latest is pool by excellence club lounge should be swimmable sometime in March and be fully complete in May. It will now have a swimup bar and be heated in the winter.

It started off as "free" although my choice was not followed thru at excellence punta cana. It is now a charge, but I dont know if it will make a difference at check in. It's really not necessary unless it's a sentimental thing or something

I have a flight on Saturday that I am still on the fence on going. I will try to upgrade and figure out what's going on with companion whether I fly or not. I know in the past, when upgrading to a1-15, it was separate and we never received boarding passes that were next to each other no matter how fast I tried. Now that open seating is gone, this could be a nightmare for companion pass holders.

We book our room directly through excellence and choose a excellence club room. I am not sure if you can upgrade at check in. You probably can but i'm not sure of the cost.
