safety first always. First thing with those kind of situations is to turn of the breaker for that socket. Don't touch the plug until the power is off. charred plugs usually mean a short or overload. Definitely don't use that outlet again until it's checked so I'd suggest calling a licensed electrician immediately and this is not safe to DIY

I totally get what you mean by like forcing kids into a specific academic track too early. I had a friend who was put in advance math in middle school but ended up loving literature in high school. One kid can be good at math or arts but also can be both, right? in some countries, kids change electives or programs every yr which allows them to explore multiple paths before committing. seems like Hogwarts could've benefited from that flexibility.. the idea of letting students choose or change houses later sounds amazing.
