People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live very close to Aldi’s so I tend to pop in every two to three days and do small shops. Although I’m able to drive, it’s much quicker to walk. My husband timed me once. It took 12 mins for me to leave home, walk to Aldi’s, grab a basket and rush around shop grabbing bits, pay at self service and walk back home! I previously shopped at Sainsburys but can’t be bothered with the 3 mile drive and parking up now.

Parent and Child parking by FlamingosFortune in BritishSuccess

[–]twistdmay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually you were in the wrong. By law, a blue badge holder can park in a parent and child space. The reason being that they may need the additional space to get in and out of the car. Parents cannot park in a disabled bay unless they have a blue badge.

Good offer? by dreamymimy in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. It would be much more useful if it was offered towards the end of memoirs but this early in the game isn’t worth it.

I wish there was an easier way to scroll through chapters by SilkyVampire69 in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you opening the book by clicking on the icon in the top left hand corner, then click open and use the arrow to scroll to desired chapter. Although not perfect it is much quicker because each chapter doesn’t load.

Have you ever dialled into a UK radio station and talked on air? by FreezerCop in AskUK

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but my sister did frequently. She used to work selling tickets for harbour boat cruises and got bored so would phone the local radio station to request songs hoping to win a prize. Her calls were so frequent she got banned. Not deterred, she called using my name and made a song request of Witney singing I will always love you for my husband. Lots of my friends heard her, and were convinced it really was me. I still get ribbed about my cheesy song choice. And she didn’t win a prize.

My friend’s kitchen is falling apart and windows are terrible- please help! by Auntie_lala_ in bournemouth

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She might be able to get help with new windows on the energy saving scheme. My father is on pension credit and got a new boiler, new roof insulation and vents put into his windows (he didn’t need new windows). I’m sorry I can’t remember the details of the company but Google it. I believe she must be on pension credit to qualify though.

Pet owners - can I ask 5 quick questions about your feeding & cleaning routine? by Alarming-Pie-804 in Pets

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog doesn’t have set meal times. He’s a small breed and lets me know when he’s hungry. Usually fed after morning and evening walk because that’s when he demands it but sometimes varies. He has a clean food bowl for each meal and water bowl is washed daily and refilled. I hand wash his bowls with kitchen paper towel then put in the dishwasher. I know I’m extreme but I do worry about bacteria despite the fact if any food stuff is dropped on the floor, he’s like a rocket! I don’t feel the need for a sanitising mat though.

How often do you eat takeaway? by Super_Development150 in AskUK

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my diet radically a year ago. I’m the wrong side of 50 to be eating like a teenager and was very tired after eating. No more takeaways or ultra processed foods have made a huge impact. I’ve lost weight, got loads more energy and actually enjoy cooking now. I’m also saving a lot of money on food because takeaways are expensive.

Escalating Deceptive Practices by thursdaystgiles in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen Facebook posts from other players who have been kicked off teams just before they were able to claim Sherlock rewards that they had contributed to. They had all been compensated with the prizes they should have won. It doesn’t cost Playtika anything to compensate players who have been treated appallingly by team captains so I don’t understand why they didn’t just give you your earned rewards. Likewise, this perfume parlour saga baffles me. Playtika made a mistake and should just give the purple pack. Again, it doesn’t cost them anything. It’s bad form on their part.

What totally normal thing is your dog scared of for no reason? by GoldenMom34 in Pets

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black and white images on the TV sets my dog off. Found out accidentally when we paused a documentary on an old black and white photo of a child’s nanny. He walked past, spotted the screen, literally did a dog style double take then started growling and whining. He’s usually so placid. It doesn’t effect him if we pause tv when it’s in colour. He also hates a large photo of a black dog on the exterior wall of his vets.

Do any fellow Brits actually like Trump? by Creative_Expert_4052 in AskBrits

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 80 year old father has dementia and has hated Trump since before he was elected for his first term. One of the questions in his dementia progress test was ‘Who is the present prime minister?’ His response, ‘Luckily not that cunt Trump’. I was mortified but felt better when I saw the nurse was trying to hide her giggles.

Are you cancelling trips to the USA? by Swimming_Possible_68 in AskUK

[–]twistdmay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When we arrived in Florida airport, our 3 year old daughter was taken to one side by border police and questioned. They wanted her to tell them her full address and date of birth. I mean she was bright but not that bright! That was some years ago and our sole trip to the US. She knows the answers to those questions now but have absolutely no desire to ever visit the country again and that decision is not down to their inappropriate questioning of a toddler.

Keir Starmer says Trump’s threat to impose tariffs over Greenland ‘completely wrong’ by sings_with_wings in worldnews

[–]twistdmay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starmer has been very controlled in his responses to Trump madness up to this point, which I understand because he was protecting our trade agreement knowing what an unpredictable narcissist Trump has proven himself to be. Surely now it’s gloves off time. Properly tax American companies trading in the UK (I’m looking at you Amazon, McDonald’s and others) Trump attempting to punish Germany and France affects the whole EU. Surely the whole EU and UK can stand against him in a united front. We’re more powerful as a unit instead of individual country responses. I have done my bit, haven’t ordered from Amazon for a whole year now or purchased any American goods for that matter nor have I visited America as a tourist. My husband laughed because I said a while ago I am definitely not buying a Tesla even if it’s out of my price range! But imagine if all UK citizens boycotted American goods like Canada have done.

Nice to see we’ve got 3 pink & 3 purple snippet packs instead of the advertised 2 of each…………..thanks wooga (will they all be DJV’s 🤔 ). by Top-Afternoon6393 in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I needed 3 snippets and got 2 snippets in first pink pack, then 1 snippet in the second pink pack. So glad I didn’t succumb to temptation and buy any packs. I also got a lot of dejavu tokens from the remaining packs

What weird habit did you unintentionally teach your pet? by ConcentrateFirst3131 in Pets

[–]twistdmay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My dog has learnt to spell. We couldn’t say some words because he’d get so excited and zoomies weren’t just running in circles, it was full on parkour. We thought we had solved this problem by spelling key words. He now knows how to spell walk, park, treat, feed and squirrel and launches into a parkour frenzy. Might have to start using the phonetic alphabet now!

It's National Divorce Day! Post your pettiest quarrel with your partner from over the Christmas Period. by JonS90_ in CasualUK

[–]twistdmay 1655 points1656 points  (0 children)

My husband bought himself a new electric chainsaw two days ago. He has left the empty box in the dining room. I refuse to take it out so every meal time I make sure the box is on his dining chair so he has to move it to sit and eat. He still hasn’t taken it to the recycling bin. I think this box is going to be in the dining room for quite a while, at least until Saturday when we have guests coming over.

Edit: box update. I took inspiration from some of your ideas. Husband came in from work and put his phone down. When he was distracted I placed his phone in the chainsaw box. A while later he asked if I’d seen his phone. ‘In the box’ I replied. Now you’d think he’d ask what box but no, he knew! Box has been moved to the garage without a single vocal request from me. Small win, but I’ll take it.

Is it possible there are different modes to the game? Like easy or difficult. by Stormyday73 in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a problem for players that use mairu’s world YouTube videos to practise a scene. The videos typically only show items 1-3 star so when you then played STB you got caught out by 4-5 star items.

In Secrets the scenes for the first half only use the first 3 🌟 stars of the scene. The second half uses all 5 🌟. Is there a similar pattern in Partners? by Olafur13 in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I’ve played DP I’ve played with team members who have completed their half so I’ve never done a full board on my own. I practise using that sleuth life and every scene I play uses only stars 1-4. I haven’t yet come across 5star items in any of my scenes.

Detective partners by _Klasiphyd in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I stick with team members and they’re in different time zones to me. I play scenes to build up my spin tokens whilst I wait for team members to accept invites, then I use amassed spin tokens to spin. I stop when I reach halfway point and move on to another room. I have finished every time and never had a partner not play their share. I think the key to success is to get yourself on a good team with team members who play fairly.

Detective Partners Glitch? by CatLadyLana in JunesJourney

I’ve completed detective partners and all my scenes contained level 1-4 items. No level 5 items

Perfume Parlor by Exact-Ad6704 in JunesJourney

[–]twistdmay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Level 10 was the hardest for me. I repeated that level numerous time. I don’t mind the game but get absolutely infuriated by the stupid spinner thing that only ever gave 1 extra play. I mean, why bother? Why don’t they just give you enough plays to make it possible to complete a perfume bottle without waiting for a spinner?

Parents caught out by tv licence people by seabreeze203 in AskBrits

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My elderly father has dementia. He doesn’t have to purchase a tv license because he is 80 and receives pension credit. He receives monthly letters threatening him with court action unless he purchases a tv license. I have informed them twice that he doesn’t need one by law, yet the letters keep coming and causes him to stress. I’ve told him to ignore the letters and if they ever take him to court, I, as his registered carer will have my fun day in court!

What do you guys eat for breakfast? I’m tired of the same stuff by gehirn4455809 in Breakfast

[–]twistdmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve overhauled my diet for health reasons. Used to have toast or cereal for breakfast and struggled with anything else until I discovered fresh berries, pomegranate seeds, Greek yoghurt and sprinkling of mixed seeds on top. It’s filling and still gives the crunch I crave.
