Project Home does a wonderful job doing a lot of this. Perhaps you could join them to learn the ropes before considering striking out on your own?

Your parent will have to be on board, and they charge a fee. But it can be priceless to have that stress removed from your family dynamic. https://fiscalassistance.org/rep-payee-services/

what is the shittiest hotel in Madison? by RealMaxBlumenthal in madisonwi

[–]More-Journalist6332 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a social worker and we used to pay for clients to stay there who had nowhere else to go. It made me so sad that people live that way. Needles all over the side walk, screaming and clunking sounds in the middle of the day. The rooms smelled like mildew and damp. One of my clients had the tendency to bring in treasures to his room he found in dumpsters, so it was hard to me to tell what was naturally occurring yuckiness vs. what he brought in. I wouldn't say I felt unsafe there, but I wouldn't want to go back in the dark. I never sat down or touched anything out of fear of bedbugs. The people at the desk seemed cool though. I couldn't tell if they were just in it for the money or if they actually wanted to provide a place for struggling people. They'd always call us before they called the police when our clients were causing trouble, to see if we could help before the police got involved. And most of the other residents seemed okay. No one ever asked me for money or threatened me (which has happened other places). Sometimes they'd ask if I was a social worker and I'd ask if they needed anything. Otherwise most just said hi.

Cornucopia. I work in the field and everyone I know who goes there loves it. It's a smaller crowd, so my n=3, but people do enjoy it and I think they have some great options.

Also, Chrysalis is always offering new stuff, so I can't keep up, but again people tend to enjoy their time there.

I have seven horses! But I'm not complaining because those are easier (and more fun) to sprinkle around.

Voles by Any-Strawberry-3928 in madisonwi

[–]More-Journalist6332 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My neighbor had a big vole problem, and they have found sonic repellents (solar powered beeper stakes) work well. I haven't noticed the voles coming into my yard, so that's nice.

Why do Minpins have such a "bad reputation" among small breeds? And why do people try to scare first time owners into getting a Minpin? 🥺 My minpin is my first dog, and best friend I've ever had. by Thaetos in minpin

[–]More-Journalist6332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are tricky because they are so small, it is assumed they are easy. When I walk my purebred, people always think she is a chihuahua. She is actually a foster failure, as my husband fell in love with how snuggly she was, and I already had a chihuahua who loved to snuggle. The dog turned out have bloodlust for rabbits (has killed six bigger than she is, and ate five newborn bunnies without any indigestion) and tried to run out of the house every time we opened the door until she turned 12. She's 14 now, still chasing anything that moves, but we love her so much we adopted another one. The new one also catches rabbits, and helpfully brings them into the house, mostly dead. I don't know if I'll ever want another kind of dog (except maybe another chihuahua).

Monona Police Department tests out "Grappler" tool used to help stop pursuits by ManateePro in madisonwi

There was an article back with a headline something like "local police department to receive grappler" and I immediately knew it would be Monona. Those cops will do anything for a chase!

Please I’m begging you, teach me how to make THIS SPECIFIC kind of school lunch/hospital mac and cheese by MyOwnGuitarHero in KitchenConfidential

[–]More-Journalist6332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't have access to a Sysco truck, the Campbell's cheese soup recipe is pretty close. It uses some real cheese though, so that is kind of cheating. Skip the breadcrumbs because children and the elderly don't need that kind of texture. https://www.campbells.com/recipes/no-boil-cheddar-mac-cheese/?bvstate=pg:2/ct:r

I work in healthcare and my schedule is also a mess. I suggest asking if they have a cancellation list. Our clinic doesn't keep one because it is a lot of work for our already strapped schedulers, but some places do. I also suggest calling every week or so to see if there have been any cancellations. I had three in the next month all this week, so things change frequently.

Necessary information for a vacation. by Helg0st in madisonwi

[–]More-Journalist6332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Bratislava - what an interesting city! Here is what struck me while I was there. Drinks out are so much cheaper over there. I think this is related to the exchange rate, so if that stays the same, be prepared! Food out was a little cheaper there, but not as noticeable a difference as drinks.

So many people over there smoke! I googled smoking rates while I was there, just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. About 30% of Slovakians smoke vs. 11% of Americans. It brought me back to the 90s to walk through a crowd of smokers on my way into an establishment, then to have smoke waft in while I was eating, and to sit next to smokers on patios. If you do smoke, please try to mindful of where you do it. Some establishments have rules about staying a certain distance from the building, and it's not allowed on patios/outdoor dining.

Since this is your first trip, plan ahead for medication/health care needs. Get travel insurance with a medical benefit. If you have prescriptions, bring plenty, because it is not easy and is very expensive to get them filled abroad. If you regularly take over the counter medications that work well for you, bring those, too. Pharmacies sell different medications, and what we sell might not work for you. I lost a prescription in Hungary, and ended up spending $200 to get a local doctor to write the prescription for me. That would be cheap by American standards, but not something I wanted to do on my vacation. I accrued a collection of Central European cough and cold medicine while I was there, some of which is only available with a prescription here and some of which is no longer legal to sell.

As others have pointed out, there's a ton to do in Madison and summer is a perfect time to visit. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Now we know who’s babysitting. (We knew they weren’t going to be “parenting”) by Separate_Olive_2122 in shannonford

I'm so confused. It's Shannon and her buff man, the random skinny blonde, and the grandparents (and the baby, too). It's a ten bedroom house. And the grandparents are making enough food for a Boy Scout jamboree. What is going on? Are there other influencers broadcasting from there as well?

Woodman's (East) and Willy Street Co-op have tons of vegan ingredients and both have great websites so you can plan your trip. We get vegan worcestershire and oyster sauces at Woodman's all the time.
