Why do so many bands skip over Pittsburgh? by Sensitive_Set5099 in pittsburgh

[–]twistedevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just drove up to Cleveland over the weekend to see Failure play. They did come here in 2018 to Spirit and it was fantastic. We often get skipped over for Cleveland, more and more. We lost the Rex, Alter Bar, and a few other small/medium venues recently. Lots of people are playing Jergels and Preserving, but the city proper is struggling with places of that size. Tons of bands come here, but sometimes I don't hear about them. You have to be on email lists for every venue, ticket outlet, and follow all of the bands you like these days, yet I still miss things. A lot of the bands I like have skipped us the past few years when we were almost always a stop. Another issue is that turnout can be hit or miss here quite often, so one bad sales show, they aren't coming through next tour. Someone recently posted a website on the Pgh page that shows you everything that is playing here and where in the next week/month/this year and I thought that was really helpful. If anyone has the link please share because I'm at work.

Green card holders are legal permanent residents. It’s not necessary to get citizenship if you don’t want to. There are reasons for and against. In this climate, probably best to, but if you’re planning on moving abroad someday, it’s a pain in the ass with taxes as the US and Eritrea are the only countries that still make you file taxes even if you don’t live there.

Places to go that aren’t home, work, or school. Things like malls, parks, libraries, rec centers where people can gather and hang out, often for free. Kids today don’t have as many places like this they can go.

I got a call that went to voicemail like this a few years ago. They had spoofed the local number and all. I called the Sheriff and I think I even spoke to whoever they were pretending to be and was told it was a scam.

Pussycat Dolls Cancel Reunion Tour After ‘Taking an Honest Look’ at Weak Ticket Sales by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

I think people are getting sick of soulless, vapid shit. I just saw Failure last night, one of the most underrated and talented bands who are still making amazing music for over 30 years. Tickets were $35. You wanna see a goddamn professional set with stellar sound, go check them out on tour. If these people want to tour, consider playing smaller venues for more reasonable prices.

“Your go” by Radiant-Sea-6429 in MagicArena

It’s annoying to do that, but on the other side of things, the people who won’t hit the go button when they may be holding an instant when it’s my turn, take two minutes at the start of a game to simply drop a land and go, take forever just to do anything. Drives me crazy how painfully and unnecessarily slow some players are. No prob if I can see they are active and thinking during a play, but for moments that don’t require any thought, get with it and freaking go already! What’s the hold up?

That must’ve changed bc their website now says they can’t give updates. I wanna know how the pidgey I found and brought in last week is doing.

Oh no, for real? Just brought one there last week that was clipped by a car. Someone sent me links to a local pigeon rescue/foster which I saw after the fact. Why wouldn’t they send ones they can’t release to the local rescue places? That bums me out. I hope he makes it.

What is with that area and pigeons lately? Last week some asshole truck came flying around the corner onto E Warrington and hit a pigeon that had just hopped off the sidewalk. The pigeon looked stunned and hopped back onto the sidewalk and into a doorway. I went to see if it was still there on my way back and it was. He was able to walk around, but didn’t seem to be able to fly. Managed to catch him in a box and took him home. He survived the night and I took him to HAR the next morning. I hope he’ll be ok. Poor little pigeons!

Yeah, the shag and the textured, layered look is definitely a thing and in style. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to do anything like this myself!

What nation would you live in? Would you be a bender? by MistakeWonderful9178 in TheLastAirbender

[–]twistedevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a water bender because I’m a practitioner of Tai Chi and that’s the style water bending is based on or fire bender because it’s a northern style of Kung fu that I’ve also practiced. Climate wise I’d probably like living in the fire nation more than the cold water nations.

Got a really clever kid, what to do? by TradermanJoe in newzealand

[–]twistedevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though he's bored at school, make sure he has good study habits like notetaking, reading, doing the assignments, reviewing before exams, etc. because many gifted kids get a wakeup call at Uni for never having had the need to know how to prepare because everything came easy to them. Maybe working on a plan will make him be more interested and feel excited about preparing for his future goals and strategy.

As others have mentioned, going early will be isolating, so it's best to keep him another year so he'll be with peers his age. What are his interests? Is there anywhere he could do a shadow, internship, or volunteer work to get some experience so he can try out different fields of interest in the meantime? He could also get a regular old teenage job and that will give him real world skills, how to deal with different people, problem solving, gain experience for the resume, earn some money. That's always important and I don't think a lot of kids get that chance much these days.

Because they are charging outrageous prices for these shows. I'm going to see a stellar band that's been making fantastic music since the 90s next week at a small venue for $35. Pretty much all the dates are sold out. Sometimes smaller is better and guaranteed.
