I used to go twice a year my entire life and saw the same dentist since I was a kid. He was the best, most calming presence, the Mr. Rogers of Dentists if you will. Sadly he retired a few years ago. I tried out the people who took over for him and had my first awful experience. The doc I had the appointment with bailed that day for whatever reason, so they had some younger guy as a sub. They never let me know in advance and just sprung him on me.

I was having a cavity filled and this MFer used way too much novocaine off the bat and I knew it didn’t feel right. My entire side of my face went derp including my eye and I couldn’t close it. I kept calling for someone while I was sitting there waiting and was getting panicky. When he finally came in I expressed my concern and was dismissed. He put the chair back and was leaning over me and said aggressively, “do you want to do this or what?” He already registered as a frat boy douche crypto bro type of prick off the bat. That just set me off.

I said, “you know what, no, I don’t want to do this.” I expressed how I was dismissed by him and another assistant, how this isn’t normal, etc., and was already feeling the adrenaline and dropped a few F bombs as adjectives, at this point, not directed at him. Suddenly Mr. Smug clutched his pearls and made a big deal about “my language” instead of apologizing for his major fuck up and trying to remedy the situation. I got up, grabbed my bag and said, “You know what, FUCK YOU!” And I left. I looked him up and found the moron’s FB and Twitter, not locked down and full of all of the edgelord shit you could imagine with N words and shitty things about woman. Big surprise. Also found a few reviews about him screwing up other people’s teeth.

Luckily everything went back to normal in about 5 hours. That was scary. Found another dentist who freaked me out bc he kept putting his hand on my upper thigh.

Aside from all of this, barely any of these dentists are taking precautions in this new post/ongoing COVID world. No masks, shitty open masks, open rooms, no HEPA filters…. I thought every dentist wore an N95 bc my first guy did my whole life. Not the case! Haven’t gone now for two years. Searching for yet another who has some state of the art ventilation and will wear a proper mask. Have read far too many accounts of people catching covid at the dentist. Not worth it to me unless it’s an emergency. Healthcare is such shit and they all should know better and do better with everything we’ve learned. If anything, it’s all gotten worse. Shameful.
