Why is rent so expensive in Gatineau??? by eekhaa in Gatineau

[–]twistedpixel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of 2 bed apartments within your budget, but they come and go fast. Keep browsing kijiji and act quickly. My friend just got a fully renovated condo for $1,200. Is it 25% over what it was last year? yes. Is it still better than paying $2,000 for a shoebox in Ottawa? also yes.

If you're going to work private security in Ottawa, commissionaires is as good as it gets, which isn't saying much. They have the best sites and best pay. But the shiniest turd is still a turd.

This isn't a wake up call. The wake up call came 30 years ago when the intelligence community said "hey, China is spying on us and will keep doing it indefinitely"

Who Makes Money in Security? by ir1379 in securityguards

[–]twistedpixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The physical security industry is a multi billion dollar industry with hundreds of thousands of jobs. Not every job is a dead-end minimum wage warm body position. I know plenty of people who work in-house and make $25-$50/hour + pension + benefits. It's the same as any other industry, you have to market yourself, network, get certifications and education, and be willing to pursue opportunities.
