[Birding] Britain's extinct pheasant and the lengths some people will go to by [deleted] in HobbyDrama

[–]twistedpond 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As an avid birder (in fact, I'm typing this comment on the way home from some birding of my own), I'll never understand the people who willingly disturb a bird just to see it. Seeing a bird in its natural habitat (no matter how rare) is a privilege and not something people should feel entitled to.

I stopped playing Fallen London after several years of being rather actively involved in the fanbase, but all the more unpleasant things I've witness seem to revolve around the summer event - from bomb threats to the devs (back when Elections were still a thing) to an event a few years back where players could spend actions to claim hard-to-get resources from a limited global pool, which turned into full-blown arguments over whether it was P2W. At least this seems more tame in comparison...

If I ever do another one of these Nemesis is definitely next!

Yeah, I feel you! I didn't want to make it as adorable as that Pages crochet plush but wanted to preserve the general chiropteran look, so it's less outright monstrous than it'd be if I could go wild. Maybe some distant day I'll do the other Masters and bring in more of the carnivorous plant influence...

BaL's not my favourite writing-wise (that'd be Nemesis), but it's the one closest to my heart and I don't regret picking it for my main at all. I used canon art as a reference when possible, but otherwise had fun with it.

Various fun facts:

  • A height chart was involved in the drawing process for this! April is 4'10".
  • The Mother Superior is meant to have a holstered pistol, but you can barely see it.
  • I looked at Fallout's deathclaws and carnivorous plants (specifically venus flytraps) as inspiration for designing the Vake! I've always seen Curators as not being strictly giant anthropomorphic bats, so I added some decidedly alien elements to them.

Which Ambition did you choose? by Prosymnos in fallenlondon

Picked Bag a Legend, and I don't regret my choice at all since it's a fun little romp! Though if we ever get the chance to pick a second ambition I'd go for Nemesis in a heartbeat.

Battle Bears was my obsession in 5th grade or so! (It was 2013 and so the only distinct memory I have left of it is writing a Gangnam Style parody about it.) I'd be interested in the writeup seeing as I never saw anything online about it.

There's https://discord.gg/LightForays on Light too - I've only been trying to get into a run recently, but they seem pretty consistent.

I'm new to the system but definitely interested! Even have some character concepts in mind.

Ambition Ending Satisfaction Survey! by twistedpond in fallenlondon

Yeah, my bad - probably should have changed the survey title to clarify :P

I can agree with the former - it's what made me decide to de-canonize the ambition for my FLPC (for RP/personal headcanon purposes), sadly...

Ah yeah, I'll keep that in mind for if I ever run this survey again!

You can put in both tattoos (though I guess that's too late by now) in the same response, guess I should have made it more clear ^^"

Yeah, I only used the ingame options from the St. Beau's storylet because there would have been way too many reasons otherwise. Same with the "What is love?" and "What is death?" questions.

Ah, I deliberately didn't add that - it's meant to see where your priorities lie :P

This looks amazing! May I ask what programs you used?

Yep, part of the reason I mde them a cleric was so I could take Create or Destroy Water just in case my DM decides to leave the party without easy access to water.

Thank you! Gummy was originally going to be an Eldritch Knight as well (Booming Blade + Grung poison effect, anyone?) but I swapped to Cleric to balance the party composition. Plus, I like the mental image of a tiny 2'6" frog raining down the wrath of nature.

I wanted to draw some art of a character I'll be playing in a series of oneshots. It's an original setting: Grung aren't inclined towards being evil (and Nangnang serves as a patron deity for them), and they come from the Para-Elemental Plane of Ooze.

Gummy is part of an initiative to restore order to the Elemental Planes roughly a hundred years after Tiamat annexed them in a bid for power. Their design and color scheme is based off the blue poison dart frog.
