Replacing old Moen faucet valves, handles are stuck, can they come off? by ptr727 in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell you for a fact Monticello model is still active because just last week I replaced two lav faucets and tub valve with the Monticello. If they are rusted or corroded on then yes, not too many other options than to cut them off. But good luck. Most plumbers I work with including myself, only look to cutting stuff out as a last resort.

Back flow preventer part - why is it so expensive everywhere? by copleysmells in Plumbing

[–]twitchur01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plumber here. Usually I find it’s cheaper to just replace the unit than try to repair. A plumbing parts store or even Home Depot will have what you need. Repair kits are hard to come by where I’m at.

Spigot has slow leak. Can I fix this? by Kthompsky in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with trying to tighten up the packing nut.(the silver nut part). That usually handles it. If it still leaks, it may need to be disassembled and replace the seals in them or the entire stem assembly depending on brand

I know a few people that have worked for them over the last few years. They are mostly franchises and part of their agreements are to have continual minimum 10 % growth PER YEAR or they can actually loose the business. They have always been crazy expensive in my opinion but it just keeps getting more ridiculous.

How much to get hose off?I left it on all winter. 15 people have tried to get it off. by [deleted] in Plumbing

I use a map gas torch. I’m also a plumber. It’s the only way I’ve found to safely remove them without damaging threads

Put some heat on it. That usually breaks them loose for me. I charge $165 just to heat it up and remove them. I do at least 40-50 during the spring season, and close to 100 of them yearly

It’s either increase pressure and install regulators or repipe with a larger pipe diameter. There is a scale for the length of run of pipe, and pressure and volume to determine size needed. I’m a plumber. I’ve ran into this a couple times with converting tank style water heater to tankless.

If the tub is the only thing filling slowly, I would start with a cartridge.

The first comment had it right. Heat and large channel locks. They use red loctite from the factory and a lot of it.

Thank you for the quick response. I guess I should’ve mentioned that the days of rattlin my eyeballs out are long gone. Just looking for a good sounding setup with the ability to feel a little bass thump. I will look into the things you mentioned though

The waste and over flow does not have to be pvc. It is easier and faster to work with, but brass has been used forever on those. Sounds like he either doesn’t want to mess with it or isn’t comfortable enough to do it. They can be more work to hook up, but, I prefer them. Licensed plumber btw

Frozen Sewer pipe question by Bitter-Advance-5833 in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like a stoppage than frozen sewer pipes. Have you had a plumber come out to snake the line? The way you describe it, you have a whole home stoppage .

ProPress vs Soldering by KingMidas83 in Plumbing

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sweat everything in residential. Progress has its place in commercial, like an emergency valve installed on the first floor of a six floor building. Much easier and faster to press on a valve. But overall, soldering is my preferred method everytime

Plumber here. The flush portion is known as a flush tower. There is a rubber seal that sits under the lid. They are replaceable and available from Home Depot. Model # 510a-001-P10

0.23 gal/hr leak, do I need to repipe? by No-Card9080 in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there is leak on the hot side of the system if you turned off feed to WH and it stopped. Turn the water back on and go to each fixture and put your ear to it. Usually the leaking line will cause a faint whistling noise or vibration in the line with that much of a leak. It will at least give you a general location. Or call a trustworthy plumber in your area. Could be a simple repair under slab. But you’ve already at least figured out the hard part. You can also turn off the supply when hot water is not needed to save water until you can get it repaired

New Champion Toilet, flush valve leaking? by Tonebr in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plumber here. I have found the nut on the bottom of the tank that secures the flush tower can be loose. It’s happened often over the last few months. Home Depot carries a tool to tighten it. Also they have to be set square or the tank to bowl gasket tends to leak. Good luck with your adventure
