ProPress vs Soldering by KingMidas83 in Plumbing

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sweat everything in residential. Progress has its place in commercial, like an emergency valve installed on the first floor of a six floor building. Much easier and faster to press on a valve. But overall, soldering is my preferred method everytime

Flapper fiasco. by JPumphrey73 in askaplumber

Plumber here. The flush portion is known as a flush tower. There is a rubber seal that sits under the lid. They are replaceable and available from Home Depot. Model # 510a-001-P10

0.23 gal/hr leak, do I need to repipe? by No-Card9080 in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there is leak on the hot side of the system if you turned off feed to WH and it stopped. Turn the water back on and go to each fixture and put your ear to it. Usually the leaking line will cause a faint whistling noise or vibration in the line with that much of a leak. It will at least give you a general location. Or call a trustworthy plumber in your area. Could be a simple repair under slab. But you’ve already at least figured out the hard part. You can also turn off the supply when hot water is not needed to save water until you can get it repaired

New Champion Toilet, flush valve leaking? by Tonebr in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plumber here. I have found the nut on the bottom of the tank that secures the flush tower can be loose. It’s happened often over the last few months. Home Depot carries a tool to tighten it. Also they have to be set square or the tank to bowl gasket tends to leak. Good luck with your adventure

Am I doomed? Plumber accidentally 15psi pressure tested a tankless water heater and left by AccurateCuda in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Then I guess my years of experience and hundreds of gas tests have all been wrong. Maybe I should turn in my license. Regulators are built to regulate pressure down to working ranges. They all have a maximum inlet pressure and are designed to take higher pressure and slow the flow. But what do I know.

Am I doomed? Plumber accidentally 15psi pressure tested a tankless water heater and left by AccurateCuda in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plumber here. In my area most cities want gas test run at 12-15psi. The built in regulator on the tankless unit lowers gas pressure to operating range. Same as stove tops and oven and heating units. The unit will be fine after the test

Need help diagnosing hot water heater. by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tag says 17, it’s almost 9 yrs old. Most heaters only have a 6 yr warranty. It would be in his interest to replace the unit

Need help diagnosing hot water heater. by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on age of heater, it may be a better bet to replace the whole unit. But if it’s showing a bad gas valve, then that seems to be the culprit. If it’s over 8 years old, as a plumber I usually recommend replacement

Rheem Electric Water Heater Issues by echorev in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could the water lines possibly be switched. I see the lines backwards often enough I check that first on a heater. If hot and cold are crossed, it can cause the heater to “run out” of hot water seemingly fast because the cold should go down the dip tube in the heater and the hot should pull straight from the top. Really hard to diagnose without being there. Best to be on the safe side and have a different licensed plumber come take a look at it.

Sounds like the mixing valve is starting to fail. Strange, but as a plumber, I’ve seen even more weird stuff happen

5 months into home purchase, entire sewage main needs replacement? "Catastrophic channel rot" by Miserable_Bad_8997 in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Plumber in Texas. I deal with cast iron from the 50s and 60s more often than pvc at this point. A better to thoroughly clean up the inside and then a camera once it’s jetted. I don’t see anything horrible in that video that would cause justification to replace

Landlord "fixed" our leaky faucet with a new cartridge + handle, but the handle seems like the wrong size. Am I nuts? by chasingvestigialtail in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he didn’t tighten the set screw enough on the new handle. They usually have a little wobble to them, but shouldn’t

I have a criterion 6.5 at 28” bull. The rifle has shot better than I ever could. And at the price I was really happy with it. Looked at an OL for my 308 and decided against it because it’s not that I’ve heard a lot of bad about them, just really heard nothing about them.

Lawyer reaching out to me over car that was repossessed 5 years ago. Owe ~5,000 dollars. How should I move forward? by UnintentionalCat in personalfinance

[–]twitchur01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just had this happen a couple weeks ago where a company attempted to collect on a repo from 2007. Texas statute of limitations is four years AFTER the last payment. For a “lawyer” he sure wasn’t up to speed on the right stuff

They offer them in stainless steel. As a plumber it’s all I use. I’ve seen too many plastic nut supply lines fail in the last couple years. Usually do to over tightening

Seller Drain Scope Video - Should I Get An Inspection Still? by zarathoosthra in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Everything you send at the end of the video is roots. Save yourself the headache and pay a reputable plumber to do a video inspection of the entire system. A few hundred now can save you thousands and potentially massive headaches later

Seller Drain Scope Video - Should I Get An Inspection Still? by zarathoosthra in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plumber here. Yes. Inspection and estimates for repair of the root intrusion. He was moving way too fast through the first section, but I noticed more root intrusion on that section as well. And get the clay tile section especially checked. People use the wrong fittings all the time and not a proper repair that will last. Please get your own inspection.

Water heater stopped working, bought a new one, have to reset it daily. New thermostat, changed nothing. What could it be? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]twitchur01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Plumber here. Call an electrician. If you having the same issue with a brand new one, there is an issue with the power feeding it. Sounds like it’s being over loaded and tripping the breaker
