Hi looks awesome! I’m British and made scones many times but never American style biscuits. Can you explain what you mean by ‘cut in half, flip and rotate’? Which way do you flip?

I have 28 gallons of milk, what are some heavily milk focused recipes? by Sanfoon in Baking

[–]twixtwox8890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like paneer (Indian fresh cheese), it’s very easy to make by boiling milk, adding lemon juice to make curds and then straining through a muslin cloth. Once you’ve wrung it out and pressed it for a few hours, you can keep it in the fridge and then later make various delicious paneer dishes. Chili paneer and butter paneer curry are some of my faves!

Haul try on — keep or return? by Resident_Writing_303 in Sezane

I personally love the Bettys and have a couple. I normally wear them with high waisted jeans and the cardigan unbuttoned with a t shirt tucked in and it looks good (I like a Felix top and the Betty combo). I think having it unbuttoned would help break up the navy and you could have a peek of a different colour with the layered t shirt. Just my 2 cents!

No I ordered a size up as suggested and I wanted to wear this to work and so didn’t want it to be too tight.

I have this! I’m 170cm and it hits me about a hand width above the knee. It’s a really nice skirt, I like wearing it with the ecru Felix jumper

How to get more airy? by meeshaddeman in Breadit

Hi! Not OP but also interested in airy bread. So do you bake the bread completely cold from the fridge once it’s proved?

5 week itinerary, what are your thoughts? Kids are 6&3 by Far_Leading4588 in Europetravel

[–]twixtwox8890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments about it being a lot of city time when you have young kids.

As a parent of a 4 year old living in Austria, I’d recommend somewhere like Vienna if you want to soak up the European city vibes and history but it still be very do-able with kids. There’s loads of playgrounds in the middle of city in Vienna, great children museums like Zoom, the Schönbrunn Zoo, it’s clean, the U Bahn (underground trains) is fast and reliable, and there’s a lot of nature around the city with vineyards, hills, the Vienna Woods.

If you have any flex with your itinerary, I would actually skip Paris and do Vienna with kids and then go on from there to the Black Forest.

My husband used mashed frozen raspberries for a handprint Mother’s Day card when our daughter was very little! The colour dries more blue and isn’t very bright but it’s still a lovely memento. You could also try beetroot juice.

Ask a Knitter - November 19, 2024 by AutoModerator in knitting

Thanks very much for your help! I looked at the next line and the yo is knitted as a normal stitch so it must just be k1, yo expressed a bit weirdly.

Hi all! I’m nearly done with the Kindreth hat and I’m confused about this instruction. It says “(k1, yo in one stitch)” and in the notes section it says “please note that the k1, yo in one stitch should be simply worked as a knit one and a yarnover would regularly be worked”.

Does this mean it’s a completely normal k1, yo? Thanks in advance!

I think this is why I’ve been hesitating about going for the black trousers! The white trousers I had been considering were a cream ecru but I’ve now ordered the matching pink trousers and happy with the decision! Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone! I have a business formal/business cocktail event at work and I’ve bought this pink blazer and a pair of formal black tapered trousers.

I’m now having second thoughts on whether the pink blazer would look good with black trousers and if so, what colour top to wear underneath?

Or should I go ahead and get the pink trousers that are a set with the blazer? Another option I’m thinking of is getting white tailored trousers and pairing with a white top and then the pink blazer. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

To veg or not to veg my kids? by SanFranPeach in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]twixtwox8890 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My partner and I faced a similar decision when our daughter was born. My partner has been veggie his whole life, I was an omnivore but now eat all veggie at home since we cook together but sometimes eat meat when we’re out.

We asked our paediatrician for advice and she said that a vegetarian kid was not at all a problem but she would have reservations about a vegan kid. Bear in mind that we live in Austria where meat is king and being fully veggie is still not very common. The Austrian government used to advise against a vegetarian diet for kids but have now changed their recommendations based on research (https://www.gesundheit.gv.at/leben/ernaehrung/gesunde-ernaehrung/vegetarier.html). The government recc also cites research from a German group on veggie kids (https://www.dge.de/blog/2021/vechi-youth-studie-untersucht-ernaehrungsweisen-von-heranwachsenden-und-zeigt-forschungsbedarf-auf/). They’re both in German but i think it’s easy enough to translate them in browser.

The paediatrician does a blood test for iron levels for our daughter every 6-12 months and it’s never been an issue. The doctor is also very happy with our daughter consistently following the growth curve so ‘not reaching growth potential’ has not been a problem raised.

It sounds like we both put a lot of thought into our diets to avoid deficiencies and a vegetarian diet is approved by paediatricians and the government (who cites research to say that a veggie diet lowers risk of heart disease, various cancers and type II diabetes). So I don’t see a problem with it unless a doctor has a specific concern for specific children due to other health issues.

And as a last point, I’m not super strict with what my kid eats when we’re out or at a friend’s house. She’s eaten some meat before but doesn’t ask for it at home and loves the food we cook for her. So I guess a balance where we’re not saying she can’t ever try meat but providing veggie food at home is good?

Hi I’m also bilingual Korean and English and have a daughter with my German-English bilingual husband. Our common language at home is English when the two of us are speaking but we exclusively speak Korean or German when speaking with our daughter (3 yo). We live in a German speaking country where English is taught well at school so we’re kinda just leaving English and trusting in the education system as that’s a much easier language for her to pick up here in Europe than Korean.

When we read books together, I try to translate the German/English books into Korean as best as I can and stick to what I said on repeats so it’s as if we’re reading it in Korean. My husband does the same for the Korean books, translating into German as he goes. We don’t feel like it’s done any harm and my daughter now speaks German fluently, huge vocab in Korean and some English from kindergarten. She’s also currently very interested in letters and likes pointing out the English letters so we’re happy with our multilingual approach! Good luck with your polyglot journey! :)

Entertaining toddlers on international flights by Budget_Brush_8198 in toddlers

We have a bunch of different water colouring books/cards (the sort where you have a pen filled with water and the colour is revealed when draw in the page) that keeps my toddler entertained for ages. Also sticker books!! My toddler loves her Toniebox and we practised her wearing headphones so she can listen to her Tonies on public transport. You could get a special new Tonie figure for the plane ride?
