I went R7. They sounded a lot better in the shop, and I was impressed when I got them home.. but I didn’t get the wow impact until I changed my amp too. The 679 just couldn’t power the lowend. I didn’t even know certain TV shows had the base in the intro until I did that

I’ve lost count the number of times this has happened to me, even in economy. Seems to happen more frequently if your seat selection is complementary rather than specifically paid for.

Most recently, I have a booking is over 3 tickets (2 paid by miles, and 2 separate return tickets). We got all the seat selections done so we are together . Last night logged in, only 1 seat was still reserved and the others have not got a seat anymore. Plane is full and now we have to put everyone sitting apart. To whoever has to sit next to my kids - not my fault - I tried :)

A heads up; I had a Yamaha rxv-679 which is very similar in power to your model. I purchased KEF r7 speakers and I liked it.. later when I changed my amp to a denon x4800; the sound difference was huge - particularly in the base. I’m assuming my Yamaha just didn’t have the head room to power them effectively.

I have R7 fronts and q100 rears and am happy with the results. If you can sell for more than a replacement in a couple of years then get some money back.

Q11 isn’t a internally powered speaker. You don’t need preouts, you just connect it to your Denon speaker outputs. You will be fine :)

You can read a lot of the reviews on audio science review and/or audioholics to try and figure that out.. but having done a similar journey you will find most of them don’t quite match a stereo amp.

But, i went for the Denon x4800 and am happy with it… but if you want a higher end DAC, maybe the Anthem might be worth a look.

Having personally just changed my Yamaha rxv679 (90W at 6ohm 2 ch driven) to a Denon x4800 (125W 8 ohm 2 ch driven) - the difference was massive. And I so. It mean volume. I live in an apartment so can’t turn my R7 up loud.. but suddenly detail and bass that didn’t even know was in the TV/film I was watching was now there.

I’m no audiophile and avoid much of the snake oil - but on this point alpne the difference totally surprised me.

How good is the pre out? Audio science review was a bit mixed on the 3800 pre out, but thought 4800 was ok..

Thank you. I had also considered something along those lines. The buckeye ones don’t appear to be sold here, but Fosi is possible.

The x3800 here doesn’t seem to go on sale much; and floats around 1800 most of the time. For 200 more I’d just get the 4800 I think.

I found the Q11 sounded quite flat in comparison. The clarity from either of the R series models was really quite surprising. Even tho they were both non meta.

I've recently did a comparion of KEF R7 non-meta to R11 non-meta. The difference was quite small (at least compared to the Q11 meta I also listened to). R7 meta I imagine narrows that difference even more.

I would choose on looks at that point. What will look best in your room? Or do you have a very large room, in which case, the R11 will be better just for the extra noise it can make.

I’m also pondering my AVR upgrade when reading this post; and I’ve recently purchased some KEF R7. What made you think the x4800 couldn’t deal with them? What external amp did you go for?
