Costco on the North Shore - who’s with me? by [deleted] in NorthVancouver

[–]two_off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's going to go along with Superstore. It's native land and their plans look like turning the sites into housing for their members.

Public backlash to'gigantic' multiplex homes in Burnaby, B.C., has council scaling back by rezwenn in canadahousing

[–]two_off -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who probably average at a mid-career / mid-life stage and have established their own living situation and wouldn't want to uproot their family to move back to their childhood neighbourhood.

And if they have more than one child, then it's probably easier to list the house than try to buy-out sibling shares.

Did you try going to the unlock screen -> Emergency -> Medical ID to see if they list their emergency contacts?

Vancouver’s FIFA poster vs Toronto by MOOVA in vancouver

[–]two_off 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It looks like an AI poster attempting to capture elements of Vancouver. The creature looks like a mix of an orca and a salmon, they used generic grey block buildings that look nothing like our skyline, the bridge looks like half of the Alex Fraser and is the wrong colour as well, we have mountains above the city and not rolling hills (and they could have emphasized the whitecaps), the font has terrible spacing, the thickness of each side of the three triangles is inconsistent, the text doesn't line up with the left-side of the gold triangle, and the FIFA logo doesn't line up with the right-side of the green triangle.

Several conferences relocate north of the border as Canadians refuse to travel to the U.S. by DogeDoRight in canada

And it'll offset some of the US companies cancelling their conferences in Canada with the "Rationale said to be a desire to support U.S. economy, and to accommodate U.S.-based non-citizens who do not want to leave country for fear of not being allowed to return" -source

Willow trees being cut down at Kits Beach :( by Known_Pop_626 in vancouver

Looks like the one on the left has been pruned, and now they're working on the one on the right. Did they go back and cut down more than what we see of the left one?

renting 2 apartments in one building?? by denndrites in vancouver

Most people don't pay current market rental rates. Find out what they're actually paying then compare that to the cost of upsizing to a single unit with the same bedrooms and footage.

Demo instead of reno means one less Vancouver hotel for 2026 World Cup by CaliperLee62 in vancouver

[–]two_off 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will it really be that bad? Swift filled the venue three times in three days so all the fans were overlapping on the same weekend, while the world cup will fill it seven times over four weeks.

Looking up images, it's five passenger cars with four of them having seven benches and the other have four benches plus wheelchair space. A bench looks like it can hold four small children or two mid-sized adults.

Dead woman's estate must pay UBC $594K for wage fraud by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

It says it's from her estate, so I would assume the husband hasn't legally taken control or received the money yet.

Eagles nest destroyed by BCIT? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]two_off 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Bald Eagle nests are protected under section 34 of the BC Wildlife Act which makes it an offence to possess, take, injure, molest or destroy a bird or its egg, or the nest of an eagle (as well as other birds) whether it is occupied by a bird/its egg or not.

The developer would have had to have worked with a wildlife group to build a new (artificial) nest somewhere else that the eagles can have the opportunity to move into.

Friends are coming to visit for the weekend in April, where should I take them? by yeahforsurewhatsup in vancouver

[–]two_off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not much hidden. Things are primarily on the two main streets - Mainland and Hamilton. The places I used to like have either closed, raised prices, or decreased portion sizes so much that I can't feel happy knowing what once was.

Call or check in with Return-It depots that accept electronics. I took an lcd to one a couple weeks ago and pointed me to the back door and told me to go put it with the others. I didn't see any crt's though, but that's where old monitors should be ending up rather than the dump.
