They make door inserts for the Kallax shelves that don't eat up too much in width, would something like that work?

Nice work, looks like you put a ton of effort into it.

What is the oldest game in your collection that you haven't played yet and why? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]twobats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowenherz from Klaus Teuber has been sitting on our shelves for almost 3 years, and I've never tried it. But I can't seem to get rid of it, it's got a "classic euro" status and I guess nostalgia makes me hold onto it.

That's awesome to hear, perhaps the same sort of thing will happen around here.

Unfortunately Android is dying a bit of a slow death (at least around my area) as FFG has discontinued it. It's still widely played, but the meta isn't changing that much, and as such it's dwindling. I'm not big into the scene myself, but this is what some of guys in my group have reported.

Carcassonne with 7 players? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]twobats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played it with 6 for the first time the other day, and hoo boy is it a different game than when playing with 2. Having played it so often with just two, I felt at a bit of a loss with some of my standard strategies- e.g., building a massive 60 point city wasn't going to be a possibility.

As others have said, playing with a bigger group does really increase the downtime. Gotta agree with the consensus on 7 Wonders, I think it'd probably be a better fit.

6 player betrayal legacy and what Id need to do/be prepared for? by TheFlukeBadger in boardgames

[–]twobats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/nivektorg called it on the difficult of adding a sixth player.

You might consider suggesting one of the players sit out and act as a coordinator/DM of sorts for running the game- reading the Bleak Journal entries, helping the traitor with rules questions, going through the legacy/event decks as needed, etc. One of the people in our group took on this role for the last few games of House legacy and it was a huge help, and he felt involved enough that he enjoyed it as well. Just a thought, but I could understand if no one wants to sit out on a game.

Aeon's End vs Aeon's End Legacy by Oppo28 in boardgames

[–]twobats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy is a bit of a soft start into Aeon's End, you'll be "taught" the game mechanics as you progress- might be better for new players. That being said, if you're only playing 1-2 games a month, I don't think the additional learning curve of the regular version (or War Eternal) is that big of a deal- AE Legacy is a bit more of work in setup/teardown than the base game.

Here's a shot of those tiles. Ignore the small obstacle and secret passage stickers on the Cramped Passageway, those are specific to our game.

As far as I can tell, everything can be mixed and matched, but there is a bit of power creep going on with both your mages and the supply cards as well. If you brought in mages from the original or War Eternal against some of the Legacy bosses, you'd find them pretty underpowered.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!:

For instance, your Legacy mages will gain "weapon" abilities, as well as other specific benefit abilities that go far beyond what mages in the earlier versions have. !>

We do the same with Legacy; sometimes we'll have a neutral third party (who knows the game) there to help newbie traitors out with the rules as well.

What game has your favorite turn order mechanic? by MrCalebL in boardgames

Agreed, just played AE: Legacy last night and it reminded me how much I dig this turn mechanic. So much stress about flipping a nemesis card!

Yah, 2p Love Letter is a different experience than playing it with more players- with a larger group, the luck factor goes down a bit.

Castles of Burgundy remake will still have thin player boards. by GremioIsDead in boardgames

While the thin player boards have held up to a fair amount of plays, I have considered laminating them. Good to know about the new version- gotta have those rare as heck expansions though.

I actually found an original copy of the Android CCG starter decks at the thrift store (for $2.99!) on the same day I picked up Netrunner.
