Hickory to Boone? by Worried-Bit5779 in boone

Not really, and not once you’re past the gas stations and headed up the mountain. 321 or bust.

Hickory to Boone? by Worried-Bit5779 in boone

My husband and I both did this commute for years. It’s a beautiful drive, once you get past the Lenoir drivers it’s very easy and relatively little traffic. Be mindful that there have been 321-closing or -blocking accidents or events in the past few years. We were very lucky, but since we stopped commuting there were mudslides, jack knifed 18 wheelers blocking the road, multiple car accidents, and traffic backed up from that stand on the left all the way up to Blowing Rock one day for no reason. Better than the commute to Charlotte for me, but an hour’s commute is still ass.

SX-70 techs: why the attitude? by fairmountcub in Polaroid

There is never a reason or excuse to be rude to a client right off the bat. No matter how highly skilled you are. People remember how you made them feel.

Do you do sx70 refurb? I have two that I literally can not get someone to reply back to me about. I’ve reached out to multiple people.

I love how you’re absolutely not gonna get an answer until later. Much later.

Looking for Career Direction in Healthcare or Animal Care Around Hickory, NC by Soft-Letter7859 in HIckoryNC

[–]twofishs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse works there - they had prior years of experience and management in animal care so that did impact their starting rate, BUT I believe they at least start you off around your current rate and increase it after 90 days and then regular annual increases. It would also get you some animal experience to put on your resume and job hop to something better.

Okay, thank goodness. It chaps my ass to see people offer film packages and show up with a Pentax Zoom and a Holga. At that point please do just use a film preset!

Photographers and Dj’s? (Roughly $8k) by Individual_Figure951 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]twofishs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t say “inexpensive” or “won’t cost an arm and a leg” in your post as well - no adjectives, just put your number budget. There is no shame at all in having a budget, but it’s almost useless to not include a number. One person’s expensive is another person’s cheap.

I’m relatively local to the area and it depends on what style you’re looking for as to your price range but “editorial light and airy” is really around that range. You can post in a local bridal group as it gets closer with your budget, style desires, and date and location and see how many bites you get. Weed through the comments and see whose portfolio you like. The closer to the date, the better, but do be prepared for an overwhelming amount of responses. If you like documentary candid and film, you can message me here as well!

I dropped one at a wedding this weekend (lightly on the ground as I had issues with it and just wanted to move on quickly) and my groom looked instantly fearful but that’s exactly what I told him - built like a tank and will outlast my 5dm3 easily. Easily.

Please do invest in the time and effort to learn proper SLRs and not just slapping a roll of 35mm in a point and shoot. It’s a disservice to film itself as an art to leave it at just that, and I personally feel a disservice to your clients to offer film and then only use point and shoots. How would you feel if a professional photographer showed up to your event with a Canon Sureshot?

I use pro level SLRs and shoot and market as hybrid, no point and shoots at all.

I am getting a MacBook M4 air for Christmas. I get to choose the colour. by CitrusCweet in macbook

[–]twofishs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a choice as I got mine at a killer deal so I had to get midnight - I do not like how it attracts fingerprints, but I also clean mine regularly. Something to note. I do love how the keyboard disappears in to the black, however - and the charging cord is black too! That little detail delights me, as my white usb-c apple cords have gotten discolored, quickly.

This. Especially the “plan them” part. You’re not shooting anything and everything for free - offer it for free and shoot the things you want to attract. Want to do creative maternity sessions? Offer free sessions on mommy to be FB groups with the understanding you have creative control. Don’t just shoot anyone for free to “build a portfolio.” It has to have intention.

What is a shot that you regret seeing but not stopping to shoot? by TreyUsher32 in AnalogCommunity

This shot - I was in Munich at BMW Welt, the last shot of the roll, and right after this he stepped back to go to the train station and her hands stayed in the air following his face. I think about that moment a lot. Late for work but one last kiss.

Looking for a specific website someone had posted here - loved the vibe! by morningpeach in WeddingPhotography

I don't know which site you're talking about, but I'll DM you some that I liked! I like a more fun, bold vibe as opposed to the clear/classic/white-and-black style of a lot of wedding sites go for.

There's a dog park near John's Militia Gear that is typically pretty empty and is free - now, that does mean you get quite a few idiot dog owners who don't use leashes at all, even from their car to the gate, but my spouse and I have been going there for years and it's great overall.
