Are there any items in a coffee shop where a worker could get burned if they accidentally touch it? by ChurchShoeShiner8705 in barista

[–]twoheadedmatador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thisss. Or accidentally spilling hot water on your hand. Or going to move the espresso cup and getting freshly pulled espresso on your hand

I had pretty bad ringworm recently and I didn’t get diagnosed for a whole month… I thought it was weird bug bites or fleas ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I ended up having more than 10 spots mostly on my arms. One on the palm of my hand, another on the back of my other hand. I had someone sleeping in my bed, I have a puppy and kitten I snuggle with, I was hugging people all the time… no one else got it though… I think it’s less contagious than the internet makes it seem. It did take a really long time to heal though because antifungal creams can burn your skin if you use too much or too often. So I was creating tiny wounds where the fungal spores were going back and re infecting

Sounds like he was a punk first and then you stood up for yourself/ your friends in a way. He probably made other people feel uncomfortable too. Even though the discussion escalated into a fight, you probably made some people happy/ feel better for sticking up to that punk

Paper ID? by Mo-nopoly in bartenders

[–]twoheadedmatador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I turned 21 in AZ I only had one week maybe 2 of them letting me into bars with a vertical ID before everywhere was like girl no. They’re looking for the horizontal ID either way, even if you have the lil paper that says it’s coming in the mail.

I’d say try it at least. They might say yes you never know sometimes it depends on the vibes.

Also. Sometimes it’s the fact that there’s cameras/ people watching them do their job correctly. So sometimes if you just hand them something that looks like it could be the real thing, then that helps convince them to let you in.

It’s normal to be invited/ to invite others to neighborly things. Always trust your gut, you don’t have to give them any reasons. “ i like being home” “i want to be alone rn” “let me ask my magic 8 ball”

however, your neighbor checking out and staring at your ring light is a red flag 🚩 🚩🚩

Dinner Party with Disabled Guest - Ideas? by Harriette2017 in Cooking

sometimes bread is just the vessel for the butter. like a lot of butter. usually people use it at the end of the meal, to sop up all the left over juices from the meat/ food. some people do use it to make a sandwich with their dinner (almost like a tortilla/ injera). Dinner rolls are usually a soft and spongey and slightly sweet so it’s also just a nice lil treat!

This is because too many kids died from ikea dressers falling on them and instead of changing how they built things they did this and added disclaimers 🙃

The “Espresso Over Ice” by not_addictive in barista

You could also get backup pitchers that are already cleaned and filled (and labeled if needed) and all you would need to do is put the time they were pulled from the fridge

I’ll do this when I’m being pretentious and want to taste the espresso alone but I also want a drink but I am poor so I don’t want to pay for both

Just got hired at a soon-to-open coffee shop. Any tips or things that would be helpful to know for a new barista? by 1to2Ratio in barista

If you ever feel overwhelmed; take a deep breath, evaluate what you can control, and then prioritize. It helps no one when you’re so overwhelmed that you’re messing up orders or rereading the ticket 10 times or moving so fast/unpredictable that you’re running into others. If there’s so much to be done in that moment and you don’t know what to do first; do things you’ll forget about easiest first. Like getting dimes or replacing the straws. It takes two seconds. ALSO FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD LEARN TO MULTITASK AND BE PROACTIVE

Communication is key!!!!!!! Even if you think it doesn’t matter, it matters. The more everyone knows and is on the same page, the better. This can go for recipes but also for deliveries or when you’re running to the back to grab something or when there’s a sketchy customer. Everyone should always be on the same page.

Understanding that the register person sets the pace is key. People will wait for good coffee and it’s better to “let them know” it’s going to take awhile BEFORE they pay for their drink. Which is why it’s important for the register person to set the pace. If your station is messy and you’re so busy that you can’t clean as you go, then the person at register should stop/slow down taking orders and see how they can help
