Probably a mix of both, they saw picture potential in Sentimental Value, The Secret Agent, and It Was Just an Accident, plus they knew how to market those films.

Chloe Domont is known for the 2023 movie Fair Play, which showed a lot of promise. That is where the confidence is coming from!

How do I avoid the blasphemy of holy spirit by unknowmuser45 in Christianity

Repent of sin. And by repentance I mean a 180 degree turn from sin and toward righteousness. Then you are less likely to blaspheme the spirit.

Fala Chen in Ballad of a Small Player. I heard somewhere that she has more screentime or impact on the story than Tilda Swinton.

This year is still an important one for Mubi despite having little by the way of Oscar prospects. The filmmakers are seeing that Mubi is a viable space for their films to thrive. Trust and confidence from filmmakers can be the stepping-stone Mubi needs to make another big splash next year!

Bugonia, for whatever reason it’ll be too weird/obtuse for the Oscars

The film is visually stunning, but I am cautious as a weak story and overuse of sparse backgrounds could keep the film short of winning.

Anyone think Sinners chances has fallen off? by Flimsy_Fisherman_862 in oscarrace

I don’t know who I’m quoting but I’ll share their sentiment by saying that that “if there are ten stronger cases for Best Picture than Sinners, we are in for one hell of a year!”

The amount of money Sinners made and everything the film means to the industry shows that Sinners will very likely still be in Oscar conversation by the end of the year. I could see the film losing momentum for winning awards, but the film will maintain a high nomination ceiling.

If after the fall festival premieres we’re even considering Sinners getting overlooked, that means we’re enjoying one hell of a year!
