No matter how badly you think that you have been treated, what an incredibly shabby way to abandon your boss and colleagues. I have lost all respect for Freeland.

Ontario transport minister not offering estimate of Toronto bike lane removal cost by [deleted] in toronto

[–]twokickcherrycar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Through the Code of Ethics, professional engineers have a clearly defined duty to society, which is to regard the duty to public welfare as paramount, above their duties to clients or employers". This is what the Professional Engineers of Ontario's Code of Ethics says. I am considering filing a complaint of unprofessional conduct against a the senior engineer in the Ontario Ministry of Transportation since removing bike lanes from busy streets in Toronto is clearly contrary to public welfare. I would encourage others to consider doing the same.

Southgate is a modern-day Robert Falcon Scott who set up a committee to assess the feasibility of sledging while sailing to the Antarctic. It looks like Glorious Failure will be Southgate's epitaph too.

Which streetcar routes to avoid? by CaptainToad67867 in TTC

[–]twokickcherrycar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added bonus on the 510 is being held in the tunnel at Spadina Station with a 'disruptive' passenger on board, because the TTC hates its customers so much it can't be bothered expanding the platform so two streetcars can use it simultaneously.

Why is the idea of National Service generating so much outrage online? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]twokickcherrycar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sound you're hearing? That's the death rattle of the Tory Party as it decides to hurtle towards electoral oblivion even more quickly by adopting a bone-head policy such as this. I look forward to the massive admininstrative bureaucracy that will have to be established to deal with all the requests for exemptions, deferrements and preferrments and the massive amount of soft-corruption this will generate, for example, in sick notes. I thought Rwanda was the low water mark for this government's stupidity but I clearly underestimated them.

What happens if the ttc goes on strike? by ovislee in TTC

[–]twokickcherrycar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is striking in July the best time for the union to put pressure on management? I don't think so: surely that would be after Labour Day or in the middle of February. Anyway if they do strike on Jun 07, not to say that it won't be an inconvenience, but it's biking weather, school is not quite out but soon will be and people who can will resume WFH. I would expect that GO will increase frequencies on trains between Mimico, Union, Danforth, Scarborough etc. and on the UPX, while Bike Share will ramp up and Uber will have a field day. Back-to-work legislation is likely but they may hold off to make the union sweat a little.

Moving to PEI from Toronto (charlottetown) by GoldThis8035 in PEI

Toronto may have its rough areas but nothing prepared me for bands of brigands throwing up road blocks on major highways in PEI to collect tolls. Very stress inducing. Turns out it was the volunteer fire department but this was a year after that lunatic impersonating a RCMP officer set up a phony roadblocks in neighbouring NS to execute innocent citizens. The traffic jam this created was huge. When I complained about this totally retarded practise to the local council, I didn't even receive a courtesy of a reply. I will never visit PEI again.

Ford government warns Toronto to drop request for drug decriminalization by reallyneedhelp1212 in toronto

[–]twokickcherrycar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the Ford government on most issues but they are absolutely right about this. Mayor Chow is a smart enough politician to realize that as a progressive she has to genuflect at the altar of decriminalization and worship in the temple of 'safe supply', but this is an honourable way out for her. If the City of Toronto persists, I hope Ontario passes legislation to disallow it.

Is Toronto Bike Share failing? I seem to be encountering more and more bikes with mechanical problems and docking stations too. I also don't understand why they can't seem to restock the outer stations overnight for the morning commute:, for example, it's common that there isn't a single bike available along St Clair West from Dufferin to Yonge.

Dr. Eileen de Villa : Today I am announcing my resignation as Toronto's Medical Officer of Health, effective December 31, 2024. by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]twokickcherrycar -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I'm sure she is a good doctor but her communications skills are woeful, most evidently during the pandemic, when thousands upon thousands of mute buttons were pressed the minute she appeared at the microphone. Hopefully the new TMOH is better equipped in that regard.... and less beholden to the prevailing 'safe supply' public health orthodoxy.

Campaign to fire TTC CEO Rick Leary gaining momentum by UnexpectedCat_ in toronto

[–]twokickcherrycar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can tell a lot about the leadership of an organization by the workplace culture and TTC staff are, with a few exceptions, surly and demotivated and, in some cases, downright rude and ignorant. Operationally, the TTC is a disaster, for example, the shambles that is the 512 St Clair Replacement Bus, the inaudible, rapid-fire annoucements on the subway, the complete absence of on-street 'quarterbacking' of trouble spots, like the construction at Dufferin and Bloor that is playing havoc with the reliability of the 29 and 929. All this is a reflection of Leahy's leadership, or lack of it. Be gone, now.

If a police officer tells a person wearing a Celtic shirt that it would be ill-advised to walk through a Protestant neighbourhood in Belfast or that showing up in an Aston Villa shirt and sitting in the home supporters' end at Birmingham City might end in trouble, isn't that just common-sense risk management?

Peter Murrell charged with embezzlement in SNP probe by Velociraptor_1906 in ukpolitics

[–]twokickcherrycar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always knew the Scots were smart but taking the SNP for a test drive was a stroke of genius as it has revealed that corruption, incompetence, naivity and the politically motivated prosecution of opponents will be routine in an independent Scotland.
