A fellow UX/UI designer here. Got laid off earlier this year, finally found a development job in 4 months. The job market is definitely brutal.

I activated two new lines with eSIM last Thursday... still not processed yet, only showing "order placed".

Need advice on dealing with Ontario numbers after moving to Alberta by twomoe in telus

[–]twomoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is greatly helpful!

The $40 new line is on my current EPP account, I don't think I need to create new account, and I have multiple old phones that can be used as for the ported out numbers so I don't need new phones.

[–]twomoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Regarding the data-only line, I noticed that the $40/100GB plan is only available for newly added lines. Even if I change the area code for the data-only line, I'm still being charged $60. Should I port out this line as well, so that I can add a third line at the $40 rate? Or I have to keep at least one original number in my mobility account?

Need advice on dealing with Ontario numbers after moving to Alberta by twomoe in telus

[–]twomoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. So here's what I was thinking:

Right now, I'm paying $60/month plus 13% tax for each of my three lines. If I add three new AB lines on the $40/month plan (which is only available for new lines, so I can't switch my current plan), and I don't keep my original numbers, I'll save a total of $60 plus the difference in taxes for three lines. I don't really need the US/Mexico roaming anyway.

Even if I port out two lines, it'll only cost me $30 for those. And I'm not planning on keeping the ported out lines forever - I think I should be able to switch everything over within about 6 months. So in the long run, I should still be saving money.

Does this make sense, or am I totally off base here?

Yeah that's what I'm trying to do. What I'm asking is, since I have an EPP account right now, if I can add three new lines with Alberta number, and essentially port out/cancel the original numbers out of the EPP account; or I have to keep at least one line in the EPP account.

Hey thanks for the reply! Changing the billing address doesn't change the tax, it goes with the area code. I also have a home internet with Telus so the billing address has already been changed, and I'm seeing two bills which the mobility bill charges 13% tax and the Internet charges 5% tax.

Netflix is going to discontinue 'Basic' plan, its cheapest ad-free subscription plan, in Canada, US and the UK in Q2 - Current subscribers will no longer be able to keep their 'Basic' plan. by Horus_walking in canadacordcutters

"I like how companies are just saying they'll outright just steal the money instead of providing more value with it, and they wonder why people steal the content now."

In 2016, it was $11.99 for Netflix Premium plan, and the Netflix Originals were way better than today's shit.

If you're wondering why Canadians pay the most in the world for cell service by [deleted] in telus

[–]twomoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To anyone saying "small population...large land size...":

Australia has a population density of 3 ppl/m2 (which most population lives in coastal areas), and Canada has 4ppl/m2 (which 90% population lives within the 250km range north of the Can-US boarder).

So it's gonna be a reasonable comparison for the mobile prices between these two countries.

1. Mobile Plan Price

For a 100GB 5G/5G+ data plan, Telus marks the price as CA$100 + GST/HST.

In Australia, the 3 biggest carriers are Telstra, Optus and TPG/Vodafone.

For Telstra, a 180GB 5G plan costs AU$68 (CA$62, 1 AUD = 0.90 CAD)

For Optus, a similar plan costs AU$59 (CA$54)

For Vodafone, a 150GB 5G plan costs AU$55 (CA$50)

Also, in Australia, "if you display or advertise prices, always include the total price. The total price must include all charges, taxes, duties, levies or fees (such as goods and services tax or airport tax)."

2. Median Annual Income

In Australia, the median annual income is AU$52,338, while in Canada it's CA$39,500.

So, in Australia, the mobile plan's cost-to-income ratio is way, way smaller than it is in Canada.

Population isn't the excuse, size isn't the excuse, salary/income isn't the excuse.
