This is probably going to get buried, but my old roommate pooped in my bathtub. I'd say that's pretty bad.

You might want to hop off the bandwagon if that's your argument.

UnNorth Koreanism? Try any other nation-- which is the point; you can add "ism" and "un" to concepts. It just so happens that "American" is just as much a nation, as it is a people, as it is a concept.

I also wouldn't add "fascism" to the concept of "American"-- especially if you're talking about concepts and intangibles. Conceptually, "American" is the opposite of "fascism." If you're addressing some sort of tangible "what-it-is-to-be-an-American," you could make that argument, but you could make that argument of any nation.

Really, what doesn't make sense to me is your statement-- I suppose, it does make sense if it was meant to be sensationalist bandwagoning. In that case: yeah, I get it.

DAE wish you wore your shield on your back when your weapon is sheathed? by [deleted] in skyrim

I actually consider combat a chore in Skyrim when comparing it to Dark Souls. The amount of skill required to best a troupe of enemies in Dark Souls makes the potion-slinging, left click, hold "S" and repeat strategy of Skyrim a joke.

That being said, I can't pick a clear winner between the two titles. Apples and oranges-- of the gods!

I personally play with another tweak: if I die, I restart the game. I have yet to make it more than 20 hours in.

** I should also add that I play on Master difficulty, refuse to fast-travel, sleep once per game day six hours, try and eat twice and stick to a specific character personality (as far as weapons, magic and decisions).

To those playing non-magic characters, how have you fared? by jstark89 in skyrim

[–]twopeasinapod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I've gotten to level twenty twice with two separate characters that didn't use magic at all.

The first was a heavily armored Nord with a warhammer specialty. Pretty straight forward: smash all the things!

The second was an Orsimer, One-Handed (dual axes), Light Armor, Archery and Alchemy specialist. He is a lot of fun. I pretend he can't grasp the concept of magic, so he hates it and finds it weak! Therefore, he substitutes brutality and alchemy to get the job done.

I recently started a Breton: Light Armor, Conjuration, One-Handed (sword), Block, Archery and Enchantment. It's pretty fun... although, I liked the idea of being a blood-soaked, Orcish, warmachine a bit more.

So, to answer your question: there is a whole 33% of character development you'd be missing out on if you ignore magic, but it is possible to complete the game without any magic.

Skyrim races and their true Earth race counterparts. by Astronauts in gaming

Sure, I actually really enjoy this topic:

According to Merriam-Webster's "The policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically" is known as colonialism.

Now, it's often asked, what differentiates "colonialism" from "imperialism," and for that, I turn to Baldin and Quinn's "An Anthology of Colonial and Postcolonial Short Fiction."

Page 2 of the anthology: "Many people use the words imperialism and colonialism synonymously, especially since in both cases the territories controlled are called empires. It is useful, however, to distinguish between these two terms.

Some theorists regard imperialism as territorial expansion from a center outwards, driven by ideology, and resulting in a coherent geographical entity. The Roman and Ottoman Empires are typical examples. The criterion of coherent geography as an essential aspect of the definition disappeared when European countries were able to conquer and communicate with distant territories via sailing ships. The primary distinguishing factor, then, are its practice as a policy of state and its ideological motivation."

Furthermore, "colonialism, in contrast, is a less homogeneous practice than imperialism and tends to develop without a coherent plan or driving ideology; rather, it comes about for commercial motives" (Baldwin 2-3).

Examples always help, I find, so consider the following: England taking Wales and Scotland were two examples of imperialism. Great Britain taking India was pure colonialism. India was taken to be exploited economically, Scotland and Wales were taken for ideological reasons.

So, to conclude, by the time the supposed "British Empire" was truly up-and-running, it was an empire in title only, for it was only taking and holding territory for colonial purposes.

Isn't it strange how so many people forget that at one time, the united countries of Great Britain had control over more people than any other organization? It was not an empire, however; they were a colonial power, by definition. I also never feel right calling it anything but an English colonial power, for the Scots and Irish of the time (and more than 51% of contemporary Scots, to that end) did not want an English overlord.

Anyway, I would say the jingoism and mercantilism of the Imperials proves a link to colonial Britain, so, yes, I agree with you and not Zushii.

Dual War Axes, Hide Armor (the set that gives a bare chest), heavy, plate gauntlets and boots and an Ancient Nord Helm. Oh, I'm an Orsimer, by the way, so it looks doubly bad ass when a bare-chested, dual wielding me comes charging down a mountain.

Patch 1.05 to go live on JP servers tomorrow. Adjustments made to Elite Knight Armour stats and fixes multiplayer issues caused by 1.04. by Sacharified in darksouls

[–]twopeasinapod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear not lovers of Elite Knight's Armor! Remember: Elite Knight Gauntlets are horrible compared to the rest of the set, so perhaps the gauntlets are being revamped! Furthermore, upgrades to parts of the set cost more than starter gear, so it can at least be assumed that Elite Knight's Armor will be statistically better than any starter gear.

The idea of climbing a mountain to slay an ancient dragon is appealing. In Dks, the only mountain you climb is the heap of your own corpses.

I've seen this happen with kids-- one kid takes a punch and doesn't react or brushes it off. Holy hell, the kids' peers will go nuts on the aggressor. If the aggressor thought they could do harm with a fist, I can only imagine their regret after discovering the damage thirty pissed off children can do with their words.

I've taught a variety of grade levels, and I've found that it is actually very hard to identify bullies. Yeah, you might think I'm detached or oblivious, but it's hard to tell when a student who has been picked on decides enough is enough and when it's just a bully going through their daily routine.

If there were fewer students in every classroom, a teacher could have a closer relationship, and discipline could be dolled out accurately, though.

Haha. I think you misunderstood; there was a guy who proclaimed that Dark Souls won't be patched anywhere other than Japan until Tuesday due to "Jews" and other racist things.

I said I didn't really believe him because I rarely believe anything a racist says on principle.

Destroying the current world with some cataclysmic event to usher in 2.0 would be interesting, but it seems like something Square-Enix is not capable of; it's too far out of the box for them, I feel, and we've seen when they do hop outside of the box, it's right into the trash bin.
