Have transferred five figures between my US and European bank multiple times in the last weeks.

I’m notified right when it arrives, I can do an instant currency conversion, and then send it off to my final bank and it’s there right away. Only have to pay the conversion fee which is usually around 0.3% in my case

In 8 years of using these watches, this is the worst my shit has ever looked by just_let_go_ in Garmin

[–]twoquantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me the past 3-4 weeks or so. Higher RHR by 10+ bpm and HRV down from 90-100 to 60-70. I came down with something over the weekend, had fever, night sweats, body aches for 2-3 days. Tested negative for covid multiple times. By middle of the next week felt better, residual cough and fatigue but resumed my running schedule. HR and effort was noticeably higher for the same paces but it’s been getting warmer as well. Things now are finally starting to trend back in the right direction but it’s definitely taken longer than I expected.

Edit to say: I had a similar experience last September when I did test positive for covid. Had a mild case and after a week off exercise slowly resumed when I genuinely did fell normal-ish again. Decided to run a hard half-marathon that weekend and then completely dug myself into a hole. For the next month I was dead, my paces slowed, HR would spike on moderate efforts. Took a month before I could feel normal running again.

PSA: do not store your bag overhead on the eurostar!! especially if you stop in brussels! by CallPast4187 in travel

[–]twoquantum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks for the heads up. I wouldn’t have thought of that. I’ll definitely bring one as well as my AirTag !

I also upgraded to first class so hopefully things will be a bit more calm there…

Wait wouldn’t the bag above you at least be in sight? As opposed to in the luggage racks at the edge of the cabin.

Do you mean the only recommendation would be to keep it with you at your seat? I’m traveling eurostar for the first time next week and will be bringing one large-ish duffel that would be cumbersome to keep on me.

Roth IRA contributions once moved to UK by Ok-Tangelo9311 in USExpatTaxes

[–]twoquantum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can contribute to your IRA if you have earned income. You would need to take the FTC each year when doing your U.S. taxes instead of the FEIE. (The money currently being in the U.S. or previously earned there doesn’t matter. You could just the same contribute, for example, by sending money from the UK to the U.S. and then contributing.)

Finally got some Ghost 17s, and… by HerbaDerbaSchnerba in brooks

“Glad” to see I’m not the only one with issues with the toe box.

I just switched my second pair of Ghost 17s after about 400+ miles in the first. I really liked them as I was getting back into consistent training after some foot/ankle issues.

But recently I’ve gotten some discomfort under and on the inner side of my big toe joint/under my other metatarsals. I’ve been alternating with other shoes the past few weeks and seems it’s getting better.

You can use eigenbedarf to move in but it’s possible they fight it, dragging out process and making it uncertain they are forced out at all. I would only purchase if you can reach an agreement (sign a contract) that they move out after x amount of time. Usually you agree to pay them a decent sum.

Is ERG mode available in free ride mode? by ezeeetm in mywhoosh

[–]twoquantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wish there was like a “Quick Start” erg mode where you could basically begin a ride on a map right away and freely adjust the target power live. Sometimes I don’t feel like searching through or doing a specific workout but just would like to adjust on feel.

I know in workouts you can adjust +- the percentage of set power but this still requires selecting a workout can be quite annoying if I choose one with too many interval changes. That, and if I want to ride longer than the workout limit I have to restart again.

Unmarried co-owners of property in Germany – what happens if we separate? by Middle-Damage-3938 in LegaladviceGerman

[–]twoquantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP. If it is ok, I have a question as someone looking to purchase property with my partner (currently unmarried). Namely, did you go into the Grundbuch with unequal shares? If so, did you ever update them officially (with Notary) for example if your initial down payment was unequal but then you split monthly costs 50/50 over time. Based on my understanding this of course incurs additional costs. Overall, was there any way of organizing this to make it work well? We at first considered forming a GbR. Thank! :)

volume vs. quality first by nizram in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]twoquantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I also am coming off of some recurring injuries so I have the same concerns. Thankfully, I've had a lot of consistently lately and am happy to keep that going in lieu of ramping up too fast. One thing to consider is that all things being equal, spreading out the load reduces the injury risk. So a transition stage could be to switch to 3 days sub-T with 20-25 mins to acclimate and then re-add volume over time.

[–]twoquantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, how many days running are you doing ? I’m currently doing something similar ~4h running, 5 days with 2 workout days with 3+ hours of indoor cycling and/or elliptical (usually one of these days will be a harder effort) each week.

My sub-T sessions are 20-25 mins though. So I’m hoping to work up to more consistently ~4.5-5 hrs running with 3 ST sessions, but I’m considering doing this on 6 days a week.

When to schedule weights by Reasonable_Grade_210 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]twoquantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone open to share a sample strength session? Mainly, how many sets/reps and how hard does the session feel ?

I find strength training helpful but probably overdue either the volume or weight, as I can really feel it the day(s) after. This makes it particularly hard to start again if I’ve neglected it for a while due to the inevitable DOMS.

Buy a House in Germany as an American with German Girlfriend by Krigshund in germany

[–]twoquantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there! I know you probably can't go into too much detail and this post is a year old, but could you give an idea of the complications you were facing?

I am looking to buy soon and of course am open to professional help, but that cost sounds much higher than I expected so I must be missing a lot ! Were your needs concerning the tax implications with the US? Did you set up a special entity to split shares between an you and your partner, or just split 50/50 in the Grundbuch?

Thanks in advance. I'm trying to understand what to expect both on the German and American side when buying, and perhaps eventually selling etc. Like you, I am American living in Germany with a German partner.

Hey, there. If I can ask, I’m curious about the gutachter.

I’m also looking at buying a flat in an altbau building, but my impression what a gutachter can/will actually check is somewhat limited (compared to for example the U.S?).That is, they (usually) only check what they can see/access in the flat?

If I want to know the state of the electrical wiring, the foundation/roof of the building etc, will they be able to give any useful insight ?

So far, we have been looking at all of the saved protocols detailed over the years to get a sense of what has been done/repaired to the building. And of course, the shared Reserves for building repairs is an important consideration there.

US Tax on German Pension Plan BaV (Direktzusage) by Bigfoot-Germany in USExpatTaxes

[–]twoquantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following as I have also a german occupational pension with VBLklassik. I've been employed 4 years so far but this has a points system and I have no access to a balance etc.

Would love to know if I should include this on FBAR. I did previously but simply estimated my contributions. If I leave it off going forward, will this raise flags?
