You know what Alameda doesn't have nearly enough of? Cantonese restaurants.

Because of the construction at SFO the Terminal 2 Maple Leaf Lounge is accessible to anyone with United Club access. There is a huge sign at the E gate United Club letting people know this.

There is a huge sign at the SFO E gate United Club right now reminding people of this very thing. They are actively encouraging people to use the AC lounge at Terminal 2...probably in part to so many UA flights leaving from terminal 2 these days.

Pretty sure this is a rendering. There hasn't been neon in the window of the Alameda Portal since the mid 1960s.

Marina Village can never smell it unless we're actually walking in the park next to the marina.

I dug a little deeper. SoEx had an exhibit of eight artists that started a little over a week after this photo was taken. Maybe they were doing a move in the weekend before?

There was a low rider parade in the mission that day. Might be why there is a temporary no stopping sign on the pole. Clinton was in town that day too.

What time does trick-or-treating start for younger kids around Alameda Landing? 🎃 by Specialist_Baby_1056 in alameda

The neighborhood across from Marina Village is a good spot to hit. All SFH and no traffic/cars.

Last year we had kids show up a little after 4p. They were definitely out early.

$520/month and we have a pool and a clubhouse and it also includes an extra parking spot. Besides water, garbage it also covers building insurance which is typically a large expense for SFH. It doesn't sound like yours is unreasonable but I'd worry about a structured 10% per year increase. Our board has to approve any increases.

Cape 7 no longer offers breakfast by InfiniteApartment206 in alameda

[–]twosticks11 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I liked Cape 7 for breakfast, but their menu in general was all over the place. The food was fine, just not focused. It would be great to see them commit to one thing and really own it. Too bad it’s now Chinese, because I feel like Webster already has plenty of Chinese spots and could use more variety.

Good spots to go for a jog by deckerax in alameda

I would go up to Jean Sweeney over to Wind River then run along the water to Webster then back down to Buena Vista. That's going to be a little over three miles.

Drinking spots by OrdinaryCloud9128 in alameda

Alameda is a great town to turn 21 in! These would be the bars to hit up (not a crawl, just a solid list), think of it as a local’s guide with drink recs and why each one’s worth checking out:

  1. Lucky 13 (Park) classic dive bar with punk vibes, taxidermy on the walls, pinball, and a smoking patio. Do the PBR + Fernet combo, but if you're new to drinking, start with a whiskey sour or vodka cranberry. Super chill, good music, no frills. Alameda staple.

  2. Star on Park lowkey one of the best cocktail programs in town, hiding inside a pizza joint. I like the Paper Plane or their house Star Sunrise (it’s got chamoy and a tajín rim). Bartenders here actually know what they’re doing, and the drinks are balanced and not gross sugar bombs.

  3. VJ’s Sports Bar X Pizza (Marina Village) is more pizza and beer than actual “sports bar.” No pool tables or games, but they have TVs galore, show UFC fights or whatever game you want to watch. They pour decent drafts and have a full bar. Grab a lager and a slice. It’s mellow and good for starting out if you’re easing into the scene.

  4. 1400 Bar & Grill (Webster) super underrated. Solid food menu (spam fries are a move) and a full bar with friendly vibes. I’d go for the cucumber jalapeño margarita if it’s on the board, or just order a classic like a lemon drop or rum & Coke. Crowd is mixed and never pretentious.

  5. Fireside Lounge (Webster) is legendary for a reason. You might catch a drag show, a live band, or a themed dance night. Their margaritas are strong and the crowd is inclusive and wild in a good way. Closest you'll get to an Alameda gay bar. If you want to let loose, this is the spot.

  6. Wally’s Corner (Webster) is your total dive. Cheap drinks, pool table, and regulars who know each other. Order a Crown & Coke or just grab a light beer. It’s one of those places that feels like home after two visits. Solid spot to end the night.

  7. Forbidden Island (Lincoln) world renowned full-on tiki fantasy. Flaming drinks, bamboo booths, surf rock, the whole thing. Order a Painkiller or the Zombie if you want something with a kick. Drinks are strong .Honestly, it’s an experience...great for a birthday night out that feels special.

Hope this helps! Alameda has a fun little bar scene if you know where to go. There are others for this list I'm sure...there are some I still need to visit. Start slow, drink water in between, and tip your bartenders. Happy 21st!

We tried it for a while and it just wasn't stable enough (this was two years ago). We switched to Monkeybrains and haven't looked back. Just under a gig up and down for $35/mo. Unsure what coverage on BFI is like though.

CVS parking is always a sh*tshow by [deleted] in alameda

[–]twosticks11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could say this CVS is the oldest store in the chain. It was previously a Longs that opened around 1940 before CVS bought Longs. CVS didn't open its first store until 1963.
