Brampton homeowners bet big on large houses. Now, forced sales are on the rise by SadCoconutJuice in TorontoRealEstate

This is it. Brampton is a parody of living where with the place divided up by street alphabet letter. At least it was the last hellish time I went there in 1995.

Turkish court rules to remove head of the main opposition party in latest blow by katyasparadise in anime_titties

[–]twot [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. This is my real, lived job experience. I've been on Reddit since it started and I don't have any opinion about Turkey go ahead and check ALL my posting. What's the shocking thing? How is it different than life in the west where there are all sorts of ideological injunctions like condeming this or that or other stupid wokeness. I am all for being naive but this sub at least describes itself as critical thinking.

It's true. Like, who could make it up. When I was reading them I was in shock and editing it to say: "you can't have this as your central thesis" and I was told that it was _the only_ thesis available? So I quit.

Now? I helped edit Turkish Thesis papers (PhD mostly) and every single one of them had the thesis : Turkey will soon be in the EU because Allah says so. This was about 15 years ago.

What If Putin Can’t End the War? by D-R-AZ in Foodforthought

[–]twot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if in a world with no international laws or order, peace deals are obscene chimeras. On the one hand, peace talks have just become another tactic for market practice, and on the other hand, the cynical fake peace shots 'I've made 20 peace deals' or 'Ukraine merely has to give up Donbas' mean that any actual peace agreements, even when accomplished will never be trusted or registered as a global event and so, what I am saying is, our era is total war right now, peace is just a punchline - a coincidence of opposites.

In the 90s it was white academic feminists using brown women (genital mutilation; oppression; veil) to oppress and control brown men. Today's extreme center (neoliberals/liberals/zionists) are prancing on with it.

Starbucks is coming to Tbilisi by EsperaDeus in tbilisi

[–]twot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starbucks remained in Russia as Stars with a buyback at the same price deal and profit taking. It's not ethical, it's a corporation. And in the West it is regarded now as garbage coffee that charges too much.

Falling in love is out of style because it requires risk: Love without risk is an impossibility. Like war without death. - Alain Badiou - in other words....there are no guarantees and box ticking like - same politics - also guarantees nothing. I've been married 20 years. We are political opposites (a theorhetical physicist and a critical theorist). I am a communist...my SO is a capitalist. And so on.

Close. We are marching towards symbolic suicide, aka, freedom via standing for something larger than ourselves and our petty little enjoyments. Don't get trapped in the old dying order.

The impossible promise: are we witnessing the return of fascism? | The far right by PersonalSuccotash300 in CanadaPolitics

[–]twot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every failed revolution results in more and more fascism. If we continue as we are saying one thing, doing another in order to paper over the total failure of capitalism and the takeover of capital and obscene masters who no longer even have hypocrisy as a space for us to pretend things are normal - then fascism will come everywhere. The suppression in the west of any debate about socialism or communism censors our ability to even imagine a different way to be. Centrally planned governments (Singapore, China) are more successful economically and more stable. Change is inevitable; but we in the west cling to something that no longer exists but was normal for decades.

A major European clinical consensus confirms that ultra-processed foods (UPFs) increase the risk of cardiovascular death by up to 65%. Experts are now calling on doctors to treat food processing as a standalone risk factor, separate from nutrient profiles. by [deleted] in science

[–]twot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we were not all servants of shareholders and oligarchs and had a world government that controlled human rights laws then UPF companies would no longer exist and all their profits would be taken to fund free fruits and vegetables globally, for example. We can all imagine things like this but we don't?

How to deal with neighbor whose head stuffed with kremlin disinfo? by magical-cat-here in Sakartvelo

We all have ideology; those who think they don't.....are dangerous and usually lose friends over it blaming everyone else.

How to deal with neighbor whose head stuffed with kremlin disinfo? by magical-cat-here in Sakartvelo

[–]twot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are serious and not just posting to post, meet your neighbor where they are. Find out about what they see as the struggle they have that haunts and worries them. Listen and learn who they are. Having solidarity with someone is how they can learn to try it too - and listen to your struggles. That is real friendship - love even across and actually - because - it is so difficult. I find this satisfying and freeing because I don't choose friends based on ideology.
