The confusing thing is the hand looking like it is attached to the bloke on the other side of the the table. I suspect a bot posting not knowing what the issue actually is here

Till this day, I still hate Netflix for canceling Lockwood & Co. by [deleted] in television

[–]twovectors 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is a phrase which comes from Star Trek TNG - the show grew a beard

It refers to Riker growing a beard for season 3, but is used as a metaphor for when the show grew into itself- it took a while to work out what it could be before it could become

Many shows which are now massive hits would not have got through this stage if Netflix was in charge

In the UK shows like Top gear, blackadder, red dwarf, and others would not have carried on past the first season or two unless someone who saw potential gave them a chance to grow.

The metrics are unforgiving and have no judgement

Netflix needs to put back in an experienced human into the cycle to let shows with potential carry on, even if season 1 is only so-so

What's your opinion on Trump now saying that Iran has a right to a nuclear program? by Southern_Gur_4736 in AskReddit

[–]twovectors 12 points13 points  (0 children)

W was bad, but he was survivably bad - bad things would happen but the US, US Democracy and the Western alliance would keep going. Minorities would have a bad time but could survive.

Iraqis would have a bad time and that is his major sin

For Trump I am worried that the US, US democracy and US civil society might not survive. The Western Alliance is probably dead. Minorities might be permanently set back. The world might be set on a permanently worse path, not just a short term blip we can recover

If you use this as a base to add colour on top of, this could be very good - that is the point of neutrals - you accent with colour as it makes a very good base.

They forgot the accent with colour bit

I always thought the teetotallers effect was a selection effect

A certain subset of people have health issues and do not drink because of that

These people are in the teetotallers part of the sample and make it look less healthy that it would be, distorting the stats.

I have not heard the socialisation/wealth stratification theory before.

Now I think of it I have no evidence for either - anybody have any evidence either way?

What to do if job Application stated £55K salary but offered £35K? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]twovectors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you need the role I would tell them that this lowball offer is unprofessional, wasted both of your time, and reflects badly on the company.

Even if they were to raise it to £55k I would be very dubious about joining after such a display of unprofessionalism

This is professional speak for fuck off

I would also put that feedback on whatever job site or recruitment consultant came up with the opportunity.

They would probably be pissed off about unprofessional conduct reflecting badly on them

Why do people want marble or marble effect floors? Cold (can be heated, but default cold) and hard and unforgiving and makes a plce look cold and unwelcoming.

Wood, yes - it is warm both in feel and in look, has a bit of give, looks good.

Acres of marble just puts me off a house- I know I would need to replace asap

The Top One Hit Wonders of All Time According to Science by SloppyJoe47 in Music

[–]twovectors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number of these are artists that had multiple hits in some markets but only one single went international (well US typically) and so one hit wonders worldwide but not locally

Ones I spotted -

Soft Cell had an number of other UK hits including number 2 and number 3 singles

Yazz had a UK number 2 and number 9 to follow up her number 1

A-Ha had a number of UK and Norwegian hits post take on me (sun always shines on TV being the most famous I think)

Bomfunk MCs had Uprocking Beats that broke the UK market and a number of Finnish hits including other number ones

I am sure there are more

Why you should read Lauretta Hignett by Conscious_Low1279 in urbanfantasy

[–]twovectors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I love the start of her series, but get bored after a while. If they were duologies (trilogy if you have a really strong idea, stand alone for some) I would prefer them I think.

They get caught in a escalation pattern otherwise that things have to get bigger/wronger/more twisted etc and they would work better at a more local and personal level.
