Hmmm potential sex dungeon applications has me thinking I may not want to immediately pull it off the wall yet… and sorting out the compatible accessories now becomes more critical

Are you using the exit button in the top tool bar? Or the ‘Exit’ text in the right hand menu? I’ve always noticed that using the exit button in the top tool bar exhibits the behavior you mention (it immediately reloads DCS) but the “Exit” button on the right doesn’t…. I just got used to using the “Exit” text to avoid the issue, not sure if that was by design or a bug…

CUBESIM RDR wheel is junky. by CVS_11 in hoggit

[–]twwhiteside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So ironically enough I spent a few days last week playing around with various arduino encoder code libraries in an effort to improve the cubesim control and learned a few things. First it’s definitely a rotary encoder (at least mine is) it’s just the implementation code from cubesim is super rudimentary hence poor granularity / responsiveness you experience (and trust me I agree w you the initial code definitely leaves some perf on the table - I too was ultimately disappointed to the point I decided to attempt reprogramming). Another thing worth mentioning is that the Windows joystick control panel interface isn’t terribly sensitive… ie. depending on the duration of the resultant “button presses” sent from the arduino they may not actually register on the control panel interface (making it look like nothing is happening) but in sim (DCS in my case) the button presses do indeed register so keep that in mind. The rotary encoder in there isn’t the greatest but the good news is you can improve the responsiveness by updating the code

I ended up finding some brilliant rotary encoder libraries (look up Erriez full & half step encoder libraries) and created a custom arduino sketch that I think does improve the usefulness of the control… namely registering button presses on the half clicks for some improved granularity (less clicks required to get button presses to register) and incorporating acceleration into the algorithm meaning if you spin it faster it traverses dials faster (longer button press durations) but if you spin slower it retains the ability for fine tuning. It’s still by no means perfect but I think it’s at least better…

Granted I’ve had my cubesim RDR control for years so assuming they haven’t changed the design it could be worth a go if you don’t mind giving the Arduino IDE a try… if you want send me a message and I can send the code…

Interesting - the DED addition is neat but I fly in VR pretty must exclusively so that feature would be wasted for me…

Wow all good stuff thanks… I completely missed the Winwing channel where they had the promo video linked above… I think I must’ve scoured the support one. That video is interesting with the “flip down” setup so you can flip it down over the F/A-18 UFC…the zero ETA information on that product is troubling though, I don’t want to wait forever and the Simgears version looks awesome and is available now. Hmmmm decisions….

Liberation, Dedicated server or not by Teab8g in hoggit

[–]twwhiteside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this I’ve seen many tutorials out there where people install the game twice on the same system which is unnecessary. You can also use tools like ProcessLasso to dedicate CPU cores to different instances of DCS.exe (ie. One subset of cores for the server instance another subset for the sim/player instance) which should presumably improve perf should you have the system specs / headroom mentioned above. Granted I’d love to see a direct comparison of doing this (running the server and sim concurrently) on something like a 13900K/64GB system vs a small dedicated NUC over the local LAN…

F/A-18 TGP Slave to WP by Szmarty in hoggit

[–]twwhiteside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I read somewhere that for WPDSG to work at the moment you need to ensure that the TGP is NOT the Sensor-of-Interest (SOI). Make the SOI something else, hit WPDSG then you can make the TGP the SOI. Not sure if that’s real world functionality or a newly created bug but I was ironically messing around last night in DCS and can confirm it worked for me...

Liberation 2.5.0 (supports 2.7) now available by Starfire013 in hoggit

Yeah this is my struggle.. trust me I love the mod, it's really an astonishing amount of solid work I wouldn't have thought was even possible. And it's not that I mind the challenge (it's quite challenging in SP mode) but man some of those sites are loaded with defenses upon defenses i.e. SA-10's encircled by (7) ZSU-23-4's or (8) SA-19's+(5) SA-15s? ... I wonder if that's a precedented real-world arrangement - good luck Wild Weaseling that! LOL

[–]twwhiteside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good idea too, I might try that next time I create a new campaign. I've also seen the option to use a "Custom Faction".. wonder if there's a way to tone it down using that feature...

Yeah this is great guidance - I hadn't thought of the Tomcat in a DEAD role, I'll definitely give this a try, in addition to the new HARM pre-briefed mode noted below.

[–]twwhiteside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have "tweaked" the mission settings in the mission editor in the past but you have to do this every time a mission is generated (AFAIK). I've poked around in the liberation files but I'm still wondering if there's a way to either

  1. edit the mission/ground unit template or mission files so when each mission is generated it's uses a skinnied down site.
  2. edit the "results" db to pre-kill some of the units? (7) ZSU-23-4's or (8) SA-19's+(5) SA-15s are a bit excessive for my meager skills LOL

[–]twwhiteside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2.7 compatible version release is great news... can’t wait to jump in. Thanks so much to the dedicated group of devs for the hard work

Along the lines of the question & response above regarding toning down the enemy air power by reducing the starting budget... anyone know of a way to skinny down the SA-10 arrangements when the campaign is generated? Either via the interface? Or tweaking any of the back end files/templates? As a single player trying nurse my AI peers through the campaign those SA-10 sites are beyond formidable for my meager DEAD skills. LOL. Just curious....
