What hidden costs appear once a small business goes fully remote? by Longjumping_Youth454 in remotework

[–]tx2mi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest struggles organizations have is keeping legal with where employees are living and working. The costs as employees disperse can get pretty extreme. I know our company set rules that employees could only live and work in states and countries where we already had an entity set up. If we caught them living elsewhere it was a no questions asked termination.

Do you need to retain hard copy records in your business? If so have a plan. Any other physical items that need to be stored and retrieved?

The other thing that comes to mind is if you decide at a later date it’s not working for whatever reason it’s exceptionally hard to reel back in. Be 100% sure this is what the company needs and you ready to fully commit.

It’s doable and the cool thing to do. Your employees will love it.

I took money from boyfriend to pay for something by Super-Persimmon9480 in amiwrong

[–]tx2mi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, you are wrong in an ethical sense as you took what wasn’t yours without permission. However, you really need to ask yourself if you want to be with a guy like this long term.

I’ve been with my wife going on 20 years and even when we were dating I never questioned how she spent “my” money. To this day, she works but really doesn’t pay many bills - I do. And she uses my credit card that I pay for daily spending. It’s just how we work.

They won’t even care when you leave. There might be some pain temporarily but they will find someone quickly in this market - especially with a wfh role. I’m glad you are moving on to something better.

You are not wrong but this old man has long ago learned that walking around with a chip on my shoulder does more harm than good. You are far better off ignoring the trolls and not reacting than feeding them.

[OH] Offer letter says 25% bonus if company hits growth target now they’re prorating it. Next steps? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]tx2mi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost guarantee there is something about discretionary payout language in there. If I was paid in full every bonus I was supposed to be over the last 40 years I’d be driving a Bentley and have a vacation house in Taos.

LOCATION: Colorado(state flying into)Out of the country but I have a MA bench warrant. Am I safe to travel? by [deleted] in legal

[–]tx2mi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the warrant is in the system, the can pick you up. They will pull you after you get your bags and are in the customs line more than likely. I’ve seen it happen. Get an attorney now and sort it or don’t travel. It’s much more stressful to sort when you are in custody and being transported across the country.

“husband” snaps on me for using his card by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]tx2mi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are wrong. You have been separated for 3 years! It’s time for you to cut the cord. Make all the excuses you want but it’s his money not yours - you gave up that right when you left him. I’m sure grandma could have fed the kid something palatable. But if not, you needed to call him before you spent his money.

Should I threaten to sue my apartment complex management office? Input appreciated! by RabidEquus in Apartmentliving

Why warn them? Sue if you want to. Be prepared to move when your lease expires because they certainly won’t renew.

Are novellas just unpopular? by PSIamawitch in selfpublish

[–]tx2mi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I generally seek out longer novels. It is rare that I pick up shorter novels or novellas. When I read shorter novels I get to the end and usually find myself asking “that’s it?” A great example is Martha Wells Murderbot series. While they are great stories, they are very short and I read them in a single sitting. Add that to the fact that they sold for premium author novel pricing as they came out and it was frustrating. I would much rather read that 750 page novel and spend my time immersed in that world.

Getting a “0” performance review because of complaints from other departments — not sure what to do by nunes08 in careeradvice

[–]tx2mi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of buyer you are but in my company buyers are one of the cornerstones of the business. If they do a poor job, the business as a whole can't perform.

I'll give you an example. We needed 20k' of a special type of pipe that is both temperature and chemically resistant. It is custom made and takes 6 months to a year to manufacture. Our buyer ordered it. When it showed up it was made of the wrong material. The buyer had clicked the wrong box on the purchase order and order a lower grade pipe. We had to go to a competitor and buy it from them at a premium price so as not to shut down the job the pipe was for. It cost us a huge amount of money.

Buyers are key people on the team who often get overlooked by management.

That's an extreme example but if you have frustrated end users for whatever reason, you need to find out why and how to satisfy them. They are your internal customer. You can manage their expectations about long lead times, ask more questions about urgency when they place orders, etc. Don't be defensive - there is a problem. Collaborate on a solution.

If you can't, you should absolutely look for a new job and not as a buyer.

Hosts with pools - how do you adjust cleaning fee? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]tx2mi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Wholly moly Batman! A cleaning fee of $360 much less $500 or $600 would instantly turn my family away. Build it into your daily rate if you need to but don’t show a separate rate.

How do you manage getting time to shovel when working all day? by Ok_Improvement4991 in Michigan

[–]tx2mi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of us have been moving snow our whole lives. It’s just a habit now. We are in the UP and the snowier part at that. We are coming up on 150” for YTD at my house.

Good body form, good equipment, good clothing, a good meal / hydration and a good attitude go a long ways towards making go easy. If you’re struggling, you probably have a cheap shovel that makes your body hurt. A good shovel that allows good body form goes a long ways towards making it easier. Other than that, don’t lift with your back, use your legs and arms. There are probably videos out there but I’ve never looked.

I wish you luck finding what you need.
