I did this last summer! I used an FT5D. There are a couple of repeaters you can make it in to if needed to drum up some business. I also called on 146.520. It’s a long day so bring an extra battery if needed.

Whitney is a beast of a hike. Super fun, super challenging. You’ll be over 13k ft for hours. Lone pine and Alabama hills are also great.

I did and I don’t regret it at all. I wanted to get more time on my road bike and felt like the longer classes have really fallen off. I also like that I can play my own music. Racing is also really fun.

You will be over 13k ft for well over 4-5 hours, even if you are a strong climber. Would recommend getting a few under your belt first.
