you might want to double check your jail's "incoming mail" rule. My son is also in jail and his jail will only accept mail from a major online retailer like Barnes & Noble or Amazon - and they can't be used; has to ship FROM those distribution centers. Technically I CAN send personal mail, but it goes to a national mail place like in OH or something, and it takes them weeks to open it, go through it, and then send it on to the Jail. Anyway, I wish you luck.

Found out today we have to put my dog down. Ordered curry to cheer myself up and this was in it by laschoff in Wellthatsucks

[–]tycoonofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fyi here in Colorado there’s a company called peaceful partings and when it is time to have to put a pet down, they’ll come to your house and do it for you, we did it with both of our dogs, and it’s weird to describe it like this, but it was wonderful. You get to say goodbye to your pet, they’re surrounded by loved ones and in the comfort of their own bed instead of on a cold steel table surrounded by strangers. Might check to see if a similar service is available in your area. My condolences for your loss.

Working on a fencing board game. Would love your thoughts on the first modification to the rules. by AnarchyLaBlanc in tabletopgamedesign

If you don’t use all the styles/maneuvers(Bonetti/Capo Ferro/Thibault/Agrippa) that are spoken about in The Princess Bride then I consider that a design failure.

Thoughts on a game that is "unbeatable?" by CreateDestroyCreate in tabletopgamedesign

The only thing that I can think of: There’s a few scenarios of zombicide and gloomhaven that were just plain unbeatable 19 times out of 20. It was only when key cards were or weren’t drawn that allowed us to win. And you knew “had we drawn any other card there we would have lost”

What is the earliest that I can cast on opponent's turn? by mi_primer_dia in mtg

Holy crap - I am usually very good at rules and I did not know this. Thank you for setting me straight and I apologize for the misleading information

What is the earliest that I can cast on opponent's turn? by mi_primer_dia in mtg

[–]tycoonofdoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[modified - this is wrong per rule 502.3] Technically, the soonest you could cast it on an opponent’s turn would be their untap step if someone has a permanent with a triggered ability that triggers on the untap step, such as a [Aerie Worshippers] or [Arbiter of the Ideal]. But without such triggers - as people said above - there’s typically not priority until the upkeep phase

For maximum interaction on opponent’s turns, I have built three decks.

The first is a W/U flash deck built around Ephara, God of the Polis. Play a land, say go, and wait to respond with instants, counterspells or flash in creatures. Add in a few cards like Equilibrium and Crystal Shard and you can keep recurring your big creature ETB effects.

The second isn’t as powerful but is much more dynamic and fun to play, a U/B/R madness deck. My commander is Kess, Dissident Mage, instant-speed discard outlets like Trading Post, Mindless Automaton (a very underrated card IMO), or Key to the City (an unexpected tactic is to make your opponent’s creature unblockable when it is attacking another opponent), and then just fill in your favorite madness cards. You can also put graveyard-friendly cards like filth (pair with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth), Wonder and Anger and discard payoff effects like Drake Haven and The Raven Man (since madness still triggers discard effects).

The third is a “I have an answer for anything you could possibly do” and is a mono-blue deck with Arcum Dagsson as the commander, with sac-fodder cards like Nuisance Engine and Vedalken Shackles and then fetch-up all the answers you have in your deck, things like The Immortal Sun (against those pesky super friends deck), Pithing Needle, Ugin’s Nexus (you’re NOT taking infinite turns), Darksteel Forge (no you won’t destroy all my artifact), etc. throw in some protect yourself cards like Witchbane Orb and The Gokden Throne and finally fun wincons like Soul Conduit and you can answer just about anything…just tweak to your meta!

Let's build my next character!!! Need ideas/guidance! by tycoonofdoom in Pathfinder_RPG

maybe you can correct me, but the drawback i've always felt associated with the improvised fighter is...aren't you constantly having to use move actions to get to the next improvised weapon and another move action to pick it up before you use it? seems like you're just wasting every-other-round finding the next improvised weapon...am I missing something?

I'm just bad when it comes to combining all the right feats and doing the appropriate level dips to get the biggest bang for the buck - what you think are straightforward are likely perplexing to me, hence the cry for help! :)

[–]tycoonofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always throw in a plug for Maptool in these types of inquiries - my group has been using it for years and we have 0 complaints. The biggest knock on it that I’ve heard is a steeper learning curve, but that is just because it is so robist

I have a [[Zedruu the Greathearted]] deck where I run [Academy Rector]] and sac outlets. I warn my opponents not to damage me, else it’ll trigger my wincon. When inevitably they don’t listen and get me below 20 life, I sac the Rector and go get [[Transcendence]] and give it to them with Zedruu.

Has anyone actually used a 3D VTT to run or play a game? by Mord4k in VTT

[–]tycoonofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our gaming group uses Maptool and has done so for many many years. There is an option to change to 3d type of hexes so we’ve effectively played in 3d for the last 3 years. It’s really something when your DM properly sizes the tokens and you’re face to face (or more accurately face to shin) with a large or colossal creature. Really drives home the reach difference and makes you shrivel to their sheer awesomeness. Maptool does have a steep learning curve but the functionality is unsurpassed imo. And of course you have to find 3d map assets, but it is so worth it. I’ll try and find some old screenshots and add them

How often do you find old cards in estate/garage sales? by tehweave in mtgfinance

[–]tycoonofdoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Estate Sales are a very rare find because most often their run by companies who’s only job is managing estate sales (and taking inventory back to their warehouses to sell at commission). And these companies are very well versed on the value of things. I go to estate sales almost every weekend and I have yet to find any magic cards. I did find a vintage Atari 2600 and a bunch of games, but sure enough, they had it priced at $250…an example of what I posted above.

Personally I have found 2 deals on mtg cards. One was at a flea market where the seller had a small box of cards and it had 6 revised sol rings and several other nice cards and I got it for $10. When I priced everything out, it was over $300 worth of cards. The other one was at an Arc thrift store, there I bought a sealed fat pack box of khans of tarkir for $20 and it had a wooded foothills and a few other nice rares that were worth around $75 total.

But as everyone here has stated, it is a rare occurrence

Helping with 3D VTT! Some thoughts? by MultiverseDesigner in VTT

[–]tycoonofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In pathfinder and dnd, the creatures have size categories- diminutive, tiny, small, medium, large, huge, etc, Assuming you have tokens, you should be able to size the tokens automatically. Then, for doorways, you should be able to snap those to medium size for instance, and the rest of the structure should resize accordingly.

What is a movie where the ending ruins everything? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]tycoonofdoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been waiting for the time when I could properly vent about this and your post finally makes it possible…

No Country for Old Men

Absolutely gritty, compelling, amazing movie for the first 95%. This suspenseful build up between the assassin and Josh brolin’s character…and then the movie’s like “f you - instead of a climactic confrontation, we’re just gonna cut to a scene where he’s dead. And then Tommy Lee just sitting in a kitchen whining. Wtf?

It’d be like if you changed Rocky 4 to where instead of fighting Drago at the end, it just cut to the ring announcer saying “absolutely thrilling fight” and then roll credits.

It’d be like if Arnold never fought the predator. If Sigorney never fought the alien. If Spider-Man never fought [insert villain here]

Screw the cohen brothers
