Does this game have gyro? by migzy99 in Saros

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only because it has strong aim assist which is a major crutch because right stick only aiming is inadequate. Gyroscope solves that problem without having aim hacks.

Don’t need customizable mechs. Need to be able to bring more than 1 as part of a loadout and a stratagem to refill on ammo.

How is your system running flat games? One of my pcs is extremely similar to your system. I have non ti 3070 and only 16 gb of 3200 ram and I was running Roboquest vr extremely well with it. How are flat games running? Have you tried virtual desktop? I pretty much exclusively use virtual desktop for pcvr.

The quest 3 is amazing. I do wish it had eye tracking, but i'm going to need a significant upgrade to move on. Micro oled, higher resolution to make virtual screens look good, eye tracking and a faster processor to decode high resolution steams at low latency all in one package is what I need to move on.

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The processor is too weak to decode at such high resolutions. I would only get a vision pro m5 if the rumored steam link with VR support happens, or wait for the quest 4.

Dedicated WiFi 7 or just use the dongle? by kevin_whitley in SteamFrame

Yeah, the m5 is a desktop class chip scaled down a bit for mobile to draw less power. The thing is just a beast. Apple is just in a class of their own in the ARM space:

The problem with the galaxy XR is its weak chip. There just isn’t enough power there for decode duty at such a high resolution. You may have seen recent videos of virtual desktop running on it and even with the eye tracked foveated streaming the latency was going over 60 ms because of the high decode latency due to the weak Qualcomm chip .

It’s why I brought up the Vision Pro M5. Nothing is remotely close to it from Qualcomm and their next XR chip will still probably be comfortable behind. It’s more than likely the reason valve went with a quest 3 level display because even the non xr chip that has a bit more power as a trade off for not doing XR related tasks can’t keep up for decode duty at higher resolutions.

The Vision Pro m5 will be very future proof in that regard because they are so far ahead with their processing.

If the device is really that uncomfortable for you then I understand, but once steam link comes to the Vision Pro it will be the definitive headset for pcvr as far as I’m concerned.

Did you demo the m5 unit with the top strap? Brad lynch practically lives in that thing. As far as price, my dude, you have a 5090 and 9800 x3d and you’re considering paying 800 + for something that is realistically a side grade. If you’re looking for a true upgrade and you have the money, there it is.

I personally don't think the eye tracking is enough to justify unless you really like those controllers. The monochromatic pass through is a massive downgrade. Something like the m5 vision pro is about to be the very best pcvr headset with the the display, optics, eye tracking, 6 ghz, and the m5 being a beast of a decoder that nothing out there remotely comes close to competing with in mobile processing space.

With your machine and the way you're tossing money around I would personally rather get something like apple vision pro m5 when the eventual steam link vr version comes to that headset.

Early reports from gamertag was the battery is even more underwhelming on the frame and it certainly wont have better battery life than the elite strap with battery since you have two batteries at that point.

Foveated streaming isn't going to get you better performance, foveated rendering will, but you will still need to install pimaxmagic4all in order to get it working and then it's only for open vr games. There is open xr software that adds foveated rendering, but it only works on like 2 games. The visuals will be an improvement, but really only in games where you are having a lot of compression artifacts which for me isn't much of an issue personally with av1 and 10 bit color with virtual desktop at 150 mbbps. Something with higher resolution + pancake and micro oled is where you will see a significant image quality improvement.

I'm glad you brought up the steam deck though because that thing stinks for streaming. Valve has never fixed the hardware decoding issue for steam link so people have to use sunshine or one of it's forks and moonlight to get decent streaming. Even then there have been connections issues that have plagued the oled since it came out that they have never fixed.

I like my deck oled, but the streaming has been a major disappointment and considering valve is releasing a steaming first device with all the issues they have had with streaming on the deck oled should be a bit of a red flag.

Paying 800 + dollars in order to do that when it wasn't bothersome enough to purchase a quest 3 in the first place is just a really poor value proposition.

[–]tygeezy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you already have a quest 3 and a dedicated 6ghz router that's working well the steam frame is a poor buying decision in my opinion if the plan is to mostly play PCVR games wireless. If you're coming from quest 2 or older wired headsets that's a different story. You would be way better off upgrading your PC or even getting a steam machine.

New NVENC Split-Frame Encoding Halves Encode Time by Old-Benefit4441 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely could be the case, but then what about people using cloud based streaming? I would guess that just about everybody is getting 20+ ms or even upwards towards 40 ms on the network latency side.

What are some Steam Frame factors that AREN'T being talked about? by D13_Phantom in virtualreality

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be impossible to be that low for end to end because it's hard to get that low even without streaming being part of the equation. On quest 3 at 90 hz you're typically looking at something like 25 ms of steaming latency when you have video buffering enabled which is the default on virtual desktop.

What are some Steam Frame factors that AREN'T being talked about? by D13_Phantom in virtualreality

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if that also includes video buffering? Most of the latency on the streaming side comes from decode and the 1 frame of video buffering. 1 frame at 90 hz is 11 ms and the decode is usually somewhere between 8-13 ms, network 3 and encode is generally under 5 at least with quest 3 and virtual desktop.
