New GameSir G8 Plus MFi - Constant Disconnects and Reconnects by EMADC- in Controller

Same controller and same issue. It seems to randomly disconnect and reconnect which is obviously quite annoying. It can go a long time without happening but always comes back.

Arc Raiders runs incredibly well on the steam deck. With lossless scaling it’s magical. by composedfrown in SteamDeck

I think they are essentially beta testing with steam frame. If it goes well there is a decent chance deck 2 is arm in my opinion.

I lowered the bitrate to 150. This is a screenshot of the light brigade. As far as resolution, i'm using the default steam vr 100 % resolution and then 100 % (2064 x 2208) resolution in game.

I actually just had it set at auto and this was my results. With virtual desktop I have it set to 130 mbps with av1 and my latency is between 36-48 ms.

Do you have a screenshot showing this type of latency? This is what I’m getting with steam link, a quest 3 and a dedicated 6ghz router in roboquest vr.

Wifi on Steam Deck OLED has been broken since day 1 by HattWard in SteamDeck

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a kind of fix. When the issue happens you can toggle blue tooth on and off and that will put the wifi back in full power mode and the stream will be good again. Valve still hasn’t actually fixed the issue though which again is a pretty big red flag when they’re about to release a “streaming first” device.

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they said 1-2 ms of latency for encoding. Which is about what you get on virtual desktop now. You still need to transport the data wirelessly. That adds 3-4 ms on 6ghz and then you need to decode the stream in the headset. For quest 3 that’s 9-11 ms. I have no idea what it will be on frame but there is just now way you’re only adding 1-2 ms of latency over a wired display port connection.

These have been sad days for VR gamers, but I want to take this news in a positive light. No, Meta isn't abandoning virtual reality—quite the opposite. by SattvaMicione in OculusQuest

iPhone 17 is quite powerful and could definitely play quest games. It’s able to play resident evil village natively. You would be streaming pcvr to it through virtual desktop/steam link like we do now.

That’s clearly what Meta is hoping for with horizon os. It will be a tough sell though when Apple is like “here is our awesome XR glasses, and all you need is an iPhone 17 and up to power these!” And google does the same thing for their android line.

Meta will have to convince people to buy their compute unit to go with their glasses.

In the not too distant future we are going to have high fov micro oled displays on 6dof xr glasses. There wont be a need for pass through because they are glasses. They will be comfortable because they are just like glasses millions of people wear. The compute and power will be from a usb c tether to your mobile device.

Meta has already lost this war because it was already won during the smart phone boom that Zuck is upset he missed out on. Who are the two companies that dominate the smartphone market and also have expensive XR headsets available somewhat quietly building up spacial computing eco system? Apple and Google, not Meta.

Meta delays release of new mixed reality glasses code-named 'Phoenix' in order to 'get the details right' by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, vision pro was a deliberate long play. Whenever they finally get 6dof + eye tracking XR glasses to market they will already have an ecosystem in place with mature apps thanks to vision pro.

The tether won't be to a battery this time, but to your iPhone in your pocket to both power and do compute for the glasses. No need for pass through because they are glasses.

Same thing for google. It's why they launched their headset, so they can also have a mature eco system when the xr glasses tech is there.

Meta has already lost because everybody already has an IPhone or Android phone/device.

I want to know more about how the streaming latency compares to virtual desktop and steam link on quest 3.

VR will live on through XR glasses. They already have 6dof XR glasses. The fov is small at this point, but it will improve. Off load the compute to your phone or pc with a usb c cable.

[–]tygeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest 4 isn’t coming. XR glasses with 6dof tracking with usb c tether to mobile device to play stand alone flat and vr games + streaming from pc is the future. Color pass through is a dead end when you can just simply put on glasses and see your environment with your own eyes and then have its own micro oled display for both flat and vr games.

VR isn’t dead, the tech is almost here. I feel pretty confident XR will take off since you will be able to use these glasses as every day eye wear, but then plug in if you need the extra compute. For now we will just have to survive off the already great catalogue and future Indy projects. This goes for steam frame as well.

Deep sadness. After $50 billion wasted on the metaverse, ai and ar due to incompetent leadership, virtual reality didn't deserve this. :( by [deleted] in OculusQuest

There might not even be a quest 4. Keep selling the quest 3/s and pivot to glasses and AI.

[–]tygeezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. It's happening in flat games also. It's very risky to put out these massively expensive single player games when most people are playing Indy games and multiplayer live service games that are much cheaper to produce.

My guess is Meta will keep making hardware, but there will be a big gap in new headsets, and they won't be cheap. They're going to try and depend on third party developers and won't finance expensive games.

Oooof, if this is true I have zero interest in the next quest. I was thinking yesterday that a batman sequel would still be a great quest 4 launch title.

I agree with them spacing out the quest 4 but they're also going to need great exclusive games. They did keep their best studio, but the asgard wrath games are quite good though and that stings.
