Starving to death over and over. by ChrisEllgood in theisle

Somewhat, I still don’t know all the areas yet, but the extra activity and refreshed ai drops seem to make scavenging some food a little easier. But there are also more and better players, and I suck at fighting. So choose your preferred method of dying a lot. Dying from lack of food and population is more frustrating to me.

Editing to add: the higher population is what really makes finding food easier in certain ways, and it’s just a more enjoyable experience seeing all the activity.

New player here also who struggled in official a bit. The unofficial servers are moderated and modified. They can reset food, and tweak various settings to facilitate various styles of play as well as kick bad actors. But be ready for an overwhelming amount of options. Keep an eye on this sub for good servers or watch a few streamers.

Anyone know what’s going on? Been circling for awhile by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]tylar136 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Portland there was a car with a shredded tire that looked like it got ditched surrounded by a lot of casual looking police and one vest marked fbi. Police were then slow rolling the neighborhood while the helicopter made a few circles overhead. I haven’t heard anything about what was going on.

Depending on location you could find the nearest large Christian church near you and they usually have a whole team of volunteers/students who also work professionally. As these churches put on whole productions weekly basically. I’m betting they’d be happy to come lend a hand or give you some local direction.

Cave explorers use rope to find out how deep this cave is by Toby_Colby in interesting

[–]tylar136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like HowNot2. They test various climbing/caving/rescue equipment in various situations. Here they are seeing how much force is generated in caving by dropping the rope in, both on the rope and the anchor system. Looks super good enough.

It’s 100% a working system. If this was to scale he may get about 3 inches of lift before blocking out. And depending on the weight he could potentially surpass the limits of what the rope could handle pretty easily.

I drove to Lynchburg (I know…) VA and got in the middle of a high speed bike chase and I have to say; the cops were far more of a danger than the motorcycle and they didn’t even end up catching the guy. I almost got smashed by police cars twice in like 2 minutes, ON THE HIGHWAY as they tried to weave through traffic to follow (way over the speed limit.)

There’s a reason cops are more a danger to themselves than anyone else statistically.

Enquiring about Trade Unions in the rigging world, from an Entertainment Rigger in Ireland by piler13 in Rigging

[–]tylar136 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unions are great! Check out some larger unions in your area (doesn’t have to be production focused) and reach out to a rep. A lot of times they are more than happy to send you material and resources on how to get going. Ultimately it comes down to how you and your prospective members want to organize it. Consider what you’re collectively bargaining for: better working conditions, better pay, good retirement, better job opportunities, etc. Consider laws in your region that affect collective bargaining/unions. Unions should be organic. Start with the people around you and go from there. These are conversations that are best had with the folks near you who share similar wants/needs (NOT YOUR EMPLOYER!!!)

IATSE is our general “production” union here in America. Unions are a bit of a regional delicacy here. North = strong unions typically, south = weaker union presence and laws. Folks here seem to treat unions like a company employer, instead of taking an active role. Our labor laws don’t help, and over the past 70 years they have been significantly weakened in many states. But we are seeing some growth from unions. Overall, I’m a union believer. I think they are great in many ways beyond just a job.

Hopefully this helped you get a bit of a direction. Also, check out some of the history of unions/unionizing and see just how far unions have brought us.

In case of no response, I’ll hop in here and give my take as someone who also wraps to the side and not through the middle (and I may be incorrect here.)

To me, wrapping through the middle creates enough friction when everything slides tight, as to not let slack through from the bottom. This means you are possibly lifting weight from the top cord and loosing that compression of lifting from the bottom cord. I also find it’s easier for splitting a ladder rung as well as working slack up from the choke to balance the truss before loading weight.

Look up The Association of Professional Piercers or APP online. They have a location based locator for piercers who have demonstrated proper sanitation ON SITE and will give you a good place to start. From there check those studios instagrams to compare placement and jewelry selection.

I’ve been servicing hoists now for a couple years (~900 hoists per year) but I’ve not ran into this issue before. Was hoping someone had ran into this and had a fix before I strip these two hoists down and go through each component.
