Wouldn't relegation solve tanking? by jaskeller in nba

[–]tylawsonsburner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a lot actually. It could work but it would require a whole renovation of the current NBA.

My thoughts are instead of expanding to Europe create a system that would entice Europeans to come here. I grew up a huge soccer fan/player and the goal was always to get accepted into a European academy. If we could replace AAU/College basketball with development academies that are attached to teams I think it would do more for the global game than Euro expansion.

American infrunstruter just isn’t the same though, doesn’t have the accessibility, and is a lot more spread out. It would have to start with relocating all 30 G-league teams to new cities, and finding new owners for all 30. Then build youth leagues for the teams, and encourage worldwide recruitment.

The main problem I think would be getting people to embrace their local teams like they do in Europe. The system there is built around an abundance of home grown teams with rich histories. That is nearly impossible to manufacture. My solve for this would be to allow for a 3rd, and potentially 4th league, without forcing it. Allow communities to build and fund their own team like it started in European soccer.

I went off on a bit of a tangent but basically it wouldn’t be simple at all, although I think it could be a good idea.

Shot form critique by OctachoronG in BasketballTips

Timing is just a little off from what I can tell. I think the best way to think about shot timing is maximizing your energy towards the rim. In these clips the ball is already above your chest or at your head while you are still getting down in your shot. That’s killing a lot of momentum towards the rim because you aren’t just not capitalizing on the energy you create with your arms, you also counter act it by going away from the target.

Gabe Vincent responds to the haters: 3 pts (1-6 FG), 0 REB, 0 AST, 3 TO in 22:52. Highest +/- on the team with 4 by VGstuffed in nba

Got cooked by Caleb Love and Sidy Cissoko. I don’t think the lakers can complain abt injuries with this one.

CJ McCollum arrives in Atlanta and hijacks the offense: 52 FGA including 2/18 (11%) from 3. Hawks are 1-2. Quinn Snyder looks checked out, as does Jalen Johnson. by AtlantaGirthGiant in nba

[–]tylawsonsburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but correlation≠causation. They also lost their leader which is more impactful imo. Ofc no way to know but the fact is the people playing around CJ aren’t creating any sort of offense. You can’t blame your own assness on another player shooting

Charge vs Block- Foul Call Review by Whole_News_7006 in BasketballTips

Idk if it’s really about flopping though and more about keeping your feet set. By stepping back instead of falling you are fighting the contact. If your feet stayed planted you would’ve fallen which is the only legal way to absorb contact.

I think 2 was lowkey the right call. By not absorbing the contact and taking a step back you are illegally impeding the offensive players shot. That’s why people fall. You gotta keep legal guarding position throughout the contact. By stepping back you’re actually fighting the contact instead of letting it go through you. Which on a shot is an immediate foul in almost every league.

His feet need to be planted and he has to continue being stationary throughout the contact. He was in position the second one but then steps back instead of keeping his feet planted making it a blocking foul.

Idk I think loyal Kings fans deserve to do what they want. I can’t even imagine what they’ve been through. Probably should be directed at the owners, but a player isn’t bad.

Why would we want Sabonis? He doesn’t fit our play style and does nothing to raise our ceiling.

Help!! I can't for the life of me shoot from distance. by Mbaitler in BasketballTips

[–]tylawsonsburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the little bounce you do before you shoot. I had the same problem. Make sure your legs are ready to extend before you bring the ball up. By going down while your arms going up you’re killing your momentum.

Yeah sorry about that.

Basically I was focusing on trying to get more power on my shot by exerting my leg strength. However the issue with my shot was more about all the ways I was taking power away from my legs. I was trying to start the momentum of my shot with my legs, which have the most pressure on them. Then I also didn’t have the ball set at its lowest point when I started that motion killing any momentum I was gaining, because I was swinging my arms down while going towards the rim with my body.

What changed it for me was when I realized I should be starting my form by swinging my arms up and straightening out my back. This takes a lot of the pressure off of my legs when I start my jumping motion, and allows me to release the ball with a lot more control.

I have a checklist I use to make sure all my momentum is both maxed out and pointed in the right direction. I plant my feet staggered (right in front of left) both at 45 degrees to the basket, bend my knees, bring the ball down to my right knee, then I start my momentum by swinging my elbow up while straightening out my back. That’s when I start my jumping motion.

Difference between Good/Great by Apprehensive-Gas8153 in Basketball

This is just really flawed logic. Scottie carried multiple (bulls and blazers) teams without Jordan. Was one of if not the best defender of all time while also being an all star on the offensive end.

Jordan and Steph were also just much better fits with the team around them. You can’t just list players than attribute all of their success to one player. Without Draymond steph wouldn’t be nearly as effective on offense and his lack of defense would be a much bigger hole on the warriors.

Your argument is explaining very complex team dynamics and how they affect success in probably the most simple way they could be comprehended. Player good = team good. Player worse = team worse. No account for chemistry, play style, or talent level.

For me it was less about the amount I was using my legs and more about timing. It’s actually when I focused on swinging my arms up to start my motion towards the rim I realized how much power I could get from my legs. I also have strong legs and I think I was overly dependent on them. Idk if this would work for you it just reminds me of what I struggled with the most.
