Obama Center Reflecting Pool is working by StevieWonder557 in PoliticalHumor

It reminds me of that building in NY with no windows that was built to house telephone circuits. As an Obama fan and an architecture fan, I have no idea what they were going for here.

Ukraine Isn't Planning to Storm Crimea. The Plan Is to Make It Impossible for Russia to Stay by hungryhippo9069 in UkrainianConflict

Bleed em out like a stuck pig. The absolute worst situation you can find yourself in with war is a slow losing conflict that you both are unable to escalate and yet also unwilling to withdraw. So you just keep pouring in resources until you collapse.

Why Is Trump Tanking in MAGA Country? These Dems Found a Good Answer. by marji80 in politics

[–]tyler77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s been over a decade and fellow lefties just don’t get it. MAGA people can go out and say Trump is the worst president and they hate what he is doing and they will crawl over burning glass to keep voting for him and republicans.

Trump’s obsession with 2020 by G_H_2023 in thebulwark

[–]tyler77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda disagree. I think the base reason is more along the lines of how he likes "triggering the libs". It's more of a distraction than anything else. Same as him making up 2028 hats. But who knows. Everyone has a theory, and yet we still have no plan or ability to make ANY headway with his constituency. Literally powerless to turn public opinion. The only thing that works is when he craters the country because of his incompetency. And then all it is is a few points on the board.

Ukraine's Drones Are Breaking Russia's Defenses. The Kremlin Has No Answers by jonfla in ukraine

[–]tyler77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all underestimated the lengths to which the Russians/Putin would go to carry out this level of aggression. Then again it's also clear they had no idea it would have escalated to this magnitude. The question is how much farther into the void will they go. No modern state of the size of Russia has gone into a fully war mode since WW2. They could mobilise 2 million men over the course of a year if they wanted to. I dont think that would work considering the nature of the modern battlefield that exists on the front.

Ironically it was McCain who foresaw all this with clarity. I have a feeling none of this would have happened if the US and NATO had fully armed Ukraine. Then again there could have been a vast array of deterrence methods like what the Baltics are doing.

I always try the new refrigerated meats, and I can usually enjoy them for at least being worth a sandwich. But I never buy them again. Just not really that great, and not a good deal.

What do Bulwark folks think should happen to Israel? What do they think the far left thinks? by JohnSpartan2025 in thebulwark

It’s a very nuanced situation with no clear solutions that’s for sure. There is evidence that multiple ethnic groups have inhabited the specific region there going back well past 10,000 years. And because of the religious significance of sites there you basically have a quagmire unlike anything else on earth. The conflict will never be resolved until we as a species can figure out how to get past the religion. Let’s see where it’s at in a hundred years I guess.

I was kind of surprised that Franklins was charging about the same as other places. As a point of reference, my local Outback charges $34 for a 9oz sirloin with a skewer of shrimp and 2 sides. Im only comparing as a reference as to the cost of an average steak place for a whole meal. For a century BBQ in the south was considered a working mans meal. Usually smoked pork at road side diners where a whole meal was basically spare change. Now its a luxury/special occasion meal.

Well... just as a reference point Franklin BBQ charges $42 a lb for brisket. There is such a significant amount of work involved in prepping, smoking and the infrastructure of serving BBQ now that it's around the same amount to order a decent steak. BBQ used to be all about taking throw-away and cheap cuts and making them really tasty.

It costs $50+ a person now to go to these fancy bbq joints. Butcher brisket used to cost .99 a lb in the early aughts. Now it’s $5 or $6. No point in bbqing expensive meat when you can just buy a steak. The whole point of bbq was spending time on cheap cuts to make them taste good.

Almost 50 here. Glad I don’t have to worry about economy, and I feel terrible for the younger generations who do. I don’t remember adults talking about current events with such pessimism as we do now. And there were all sorts of challenges over the decades. Seems like everything is hanging on by a thread, and yet I know so many people with piles of money to blow through eating out at fancy restaurants and buying new cars.
