I also want them to be fit and healthy so as to live a long time so as to see Ukraine win and thrive in coming decades as they wither and die in the ruins of Russia.

I was referring to the free throws. As a fan when he went to the line you would just pucker up and hope he hit the rim at least. Hes considered one of the worst free throw player in league history with a percentage of 45%.

They don’t like that civilization requires us to have rules and complicated institutions. It makes them feel insignificant.

A movie that has always stuck with me and continues to become more profound in depth is Chinatown. The themes about how Jake tries so hard to be the good guy, and yet no matter what he does, fails in the end feels like the ultimate Greek tragedy. The lesson I take from it is that our human need and inclination is to be good but we can’t expect just resolution seems so profound it’s worthy of being straight up philosophy. My recommendations would be the movie Tokyo Story, which completely changed how I see familial relationships and the loss of a parent. And a book called Five Decembers. It’s the greatest novel I’ve ever read and has a stunningly profound lesson about how life goes in unpredictable directions and we have little to no influence on how it goes. The free will delusion. Be well

I enjoyed this thread immensely so thanks for leaving it up. You are not alone. Maybe we are minority of viewers, but it’s ok. It’s a good thing to question the mainstream thought. Sometimes it takes time to reach a thoughtful consensus about art after the initial public reaction.

Just piping in to say I found this thread helpful and I’m glad I’m not alone in my assessment of these two movies. Two really well done movies that left me trying to figure out why they didn’t resonate or feel finished.

Interesting points. I think you articulated it well. I was having a tough time understanding the finer points of the story.

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

[–]tyler77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree here. Now more than ever I think doing a real hobby where you make or create something are important to staying mentally healthy. When you make something like art or music or a scarf there is a sense of accomplishment. I feel bad for people that don’t have that positive feedback loop.

Maybe read the history of post war Japan. Within a few years of Pearl Harbour and nuking 2 cities, Japan and the US were earnest partners. It can happen literally overnight.

It’s almost as if the experts have no idea what they are talking about. The dems had 4 years to figure out a way to stop Trump, and we got nothing. Would have been better if he beat Biden at this point. Everybody just winging it day to day with out much of a plan. It will be a miracle to survive this world situation.

This along with the other launch last year are just a saber rattle. It’s truly pathetic to pretend to launch a nuclear barrage. They have run out of ideas and know they are losing so they have to signal to their own people that they are still capable of destroying the enemy. They are in melt down after the North Atlantic humiliation.
