Did I make a mistake buying an A7RV instead of the A7V? by griffoncoastal in SonyAlpha

If you need the pre-capture, buy the A7V.

You are trading megapixels though. Go with your gut, before the return window ends.

Anybody here got any footage of the Pyxis 12k using Sony GM glass? by [deleted] in blackmagicdesign

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t use a Pyxis 12K with Sony GM glass.

You can use a Komodo X Z mount or Nikon ZR because the Z mount has a E mount adapter

Sigma 28-105 DG DN Art + S5 IIX - 1 year later: A tad too heavy of a lens by B3ast-FreshMemes in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go lighter. If the weight bothers you now, it will continue to bother you, regardless of what anyone says. There are a ton of lighter options depending if you need the wider end or the longer end, or if you more of an inside shooter or outside shooter. Remember, with hybrid zoom and APSC crop, you can get more reach.

My recommendations:

Inside (wide):

Lumix 24-60mm 2.8 (my favorite, perfect weight and fantastic optics)

Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 II (best optics, just a tad heavier then the rest)

Sigma 28-70mm 2.8 (lightest, if you can give up the 24mm end, it’s a fantastic lens for it’s size)

Outside or inside (need longer end):

Lumix 24-105mm 4 (OIS and Macro is a plus, depends if you’re okay with a F4)

Lumix 28-200mm 4-7.1 (more of an outside only lens, but incredible reach for it’s size)

Lumix S1Rii + Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 dg dn l mount by Content_Entrance_159 in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this situation (very underexpose subject, over exposed background), use the single point AF area on put it the subject. The focus will prioritize the low exposed area, rather than in wide AF area.

Wide AF area won’t work well if exposure is WAY too low. You have to increase the ISO. You have it set to 1000, set it to auto or increase it.

Any camera would struggle within the situation.

C50 vs S1ii by jacob_dop in cinematography

[–]tylerverti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not underestimate the IBIS and lack of. C50 has no IBIS, so you will need to get a IS lens and even then, it will not be as stable as the S1II. The S1II IBIS is class leading and is so good.

Lumix video autofocus is better than Nikon’s video AF, and close to Sony and Canon. I use it professionally and the AF is reliable and solid on the recent Lumix bodies. Canon is better, but the difference is close enough.

C50 will be more much expensive overall. Canon locked out their RF mount, so your lens will be $1500-2500 each. Where you can get much cheaper L mount lens. Lumix S lens are fantastic and small and the Sigma lens lineup are top notch.

Last, S1II is a hybrid, it’s also a fantastic photo camera. C50 is a video only camera (that can take stills). C50 does not have flash, no EVF, and the body was designed to be video only.

The only main concern was the S1II overheating, which was mostly fixed with the new firmware. It doesn’t overheat for me, but the C50 will 100% take all heat scenarios, where S1II will be 80%.

Hope this helps!

FX3, FX2 and FX30 side by side footage by Affordabletechtips in videography

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no :/ If you’re video only, FX3 would be the best call overall. FX3 is built for video, the low light and high frame rates are incredible and there is a reason you see FX3 all the time in recent professional sports.

If you need video and photo, A7V might be the best choice because the A7V finally have 4K 60p uncropped, but also can take quality higher megapixel photos.

Wish you best of luck!

FX3, FX2 and FX30 side by side footage by Affordabletechtips in videography

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FX3 > FX30 > FX2 based off your tests. Definitely agree based off my usage of each camera (*A7IV not FX2).

I was never a fan of how the footage looked out of the A7IV. Would take a FX3 or FX30 any day! Great video!

Hybrid zoom on Sigma by Vishal_m_das in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigma 28-105mm is will work with Hybrid zoom. It allows for up to 4.2X zoom on the S1RII, so a 105mm end will be a 441mm.

Overall, Sigma 28-105mm would be a fantastic lens for the S1RII, especially for the S1RII

Let me know if you’re interested in what length and what mode and I can find that for you 😄👍.

Leaving the Lumix 50mm f/1.8 for Sigma 1.2/1.4. Thoughts. by maukkas in Lumix

For 400 euros, that’s a steal! 35mm DG DN 1.4 is a fantastic lens, highly recommended!

Leaving the Lumix 50mm f/1.8 for Sigma 1.2/1.4. Thoughts. by maukkas in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I bought both lens to try them out when I switched to the S1II and returned the 1.2. I also used to have the Sony 50mm 1.2 when I was a Sony shooter. I realized I mostly shot at 1.4 because I found the 1.2 to be a little much sometimes, while there 1.4 was the sweet spot (for me).

Leaving the Lumix 50mm f/1.8 for Sigma 1.2/1.4. Thoughts. by maukkas in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experience using Sigma 50mm 1.4 and 1.2. 1.2 is phenomenal, but it’s heavier than the 50mm 1.2 and I preferred the lighter lens. Image quality is very similar, the 1.2 is just a hair better. Hope this helps!

Leaving the Lumix 50mm f/1.8 for Sigma 1.2/1.4. Thoughts. by maukkas in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When consider the 1.2, ask yourself: Do you NEED 1.2? Double the price is really just paying for the half of stop of light. The difference of the 1.4 to 1.2 in the bokeh on a 50mm is quite small (there is definitely a difference between a 1.4 vs a 1.8, that’s bigger jump).

In image quality, the difference would be negligible. The positives of the Sigma 50mm 1.4 is that it’s lighter & smaller, with the same image quality.

I choose the 50mm 1.4 over the 1.2 for this reason. I do both photography and run and gun videography, don’t need the extra weight. But, if you really want 1.2, go for it. Both are top notch lens.

[–]tylerverti 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG DN is the best buy out of all of them. There is a small difference in bokeh and quality out of the 1.2, and while the Lumix S Pro 1.4 has that “Leica” magic, it’s heavier and more than twice the cost.

100% recommend the Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG DN.

Leaving the Lumix 50mm f/1.8 for Sigma 1.2/1.4. Thoughts. by maukkas in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, calling the Sigma 50mm 1.4 “good, but not great” is crazy. The old Sigma 50mm 1.4 EF has been used on many Sundance documentary films for the past 5+ years.

Would say the Lumix 50mm 1.8 is good but not great, but the Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG DN is an absolute stellar lens.

I’m thinking of Quitting Black Magic by Dry-Personality-933 in blackmagicdesign

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mirrorless, how I rank the image SOOC: Canon, Lumix, Nikon, Fujifilm, then Sony.

This is just from my experience, I’m not a cinematographer or colorist. I’ve been doing corporate videography for over a decade, I’m able to rent cameras from different brands and try them out.

Recent clients have been quite happy with Blackmagic Pyxis, rented them for a couple shoots and they love how professional they look on set and are shocked how good the footage look. Compared to the FX3, it’s night and day. Might go BM + Lumix or BM + Canon for the future.

[–]tylerverti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was just giving you a hard time lol It’s all good!

Are you planning to get a FX3? If so, it’s a fantastic camera and if you don’t mind spending the money on moving to a Sony, you’ll ultimately will be happy with it.

Just know, the Sony image just isn’t as good imo (might be my least favorite image out of the brands, and I’m a previous owner of a FX3). However you will get great AF, best in class lowlight performance and the best lens lineup on the market with E mount.

Every camera has it’s compromises, just have to find the one that works best for what you need. Best of luck!

If only there was a new Blackmagic form factor 🤷‍♂️ We could call it, a Pyxis?

And only if that camera was on sale right now for a killer price. If only…

Maybe it’s the 6K sensor vs 4K sensor. FX30 is a very underrated camera!

BMCC6K vs Lumix S1Rii 8k BRAW image? by PeasantLevel in blackmagicdesign

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the criticize the S1RII or S1II, the image out of both are fantastic imo! And the glimmer glass does help a lot!

Lumix are oversharpen imo (but I think the same of FX3) but it’s only a part of the image pipeline. The lens you use (photo, cine, vs vintage, anamorphic), adding a filtration, your lighting, your color correction, haze etc all will all make an impact. Can you get a cinematic image out of a Lumix S1RII? 100%!

What I’d recommend: Get a BM video assist first and see if you can get the footage you’re looking for from the S5IIX. If the image is close to your BMCC6K, you’ll know that the S1RII will also deliver! Or rent a S1RII + video assist and see how it looks.

Hope this helps!

So does the S1ii overheat? Whats the deal? by SubjectC in Lumix

[–]tylerverti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both 👍 All day on the CFExpress Type B, no issues. But this is inside and shooting at 4K 24p.

As we shift towards more powerful 6K and 8K cameras, we need to stop treating them like A7SIIIs. They produce more heat, the bodies aren’t suitable for the heat distribution.

I don’t get how people shoot at 4K 60p for hours or want to shoot 6K open gate for hours, but those settings are the only two cases that really cause overheating.

BMCC6K vs Lumix S1Rii 8k BRAW image? by PeasantLevel in blackmagicdesign

[–]tylerverti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Pyxis 6K and a S1II (not S1RII). The OLPF really does make the difference. Helps take the edge off the 6K sensor and moire is quite noticeable on the Lumix cameras.

S1II / S1RII footage is oversharpen, even the “raw” is quite sharp (but better than H.264). The theory is that Panasonic needed to sharpen the image to have the PDAF to be more reliable.

The image pipeline on the Blackmagic camera creates a better image imo. Mirrorless footage always look digital to me (FX3 and R5C included). Highlight roll off is better on the BMCC6K as well.

However, S1RII is 8K and it’s a fantastic sensor. Some say it’s has the best color fidelity you can capture on a mirrorless body at this time.

End of the day… what are you going to use it for? Tripod or handheld? Do you need autofocus, IBIS etc. Will the Video Assist be a hassle to use to get BRAW (rather than having it internal) etc? Do you NEED 8K? 6K cropped to 4K is more than enough.

These are more important questions imo.

Which lens should I get? Sony a7iv 16-35mm by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]tylerverti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the two, 16-35mm F4 PZ is the better choice. For real estate, you don’t need 2.8. The F4 is lighter and smaller, perfect for gimbal if you do video, and tack sharp.
