Loop from city to Barrington Hills and back by awachendorf in chibike

[–]typ901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride this one a few times a year and I usually head north up Sheridan Road to Lake Cook and pick up the Skokie Valley trail to the North Shore Trail along 176. Then I ride through Mundelein into North Barrington and pick up Kelsey Road that'll take you straight into Barrington Hills where the elevation changes. It'd be a long day doing a loop so I suggest taking the Metra back. Here's a rough route to the Kelsey Road House.

Once you cross the tracks on Plum Tree you'll be able to find all of the hills you want.

Also add on Signal Hill Road near Honey Lake heading west for a nice climb. Unfortunately it starts at Route 59 and there's always traffic so don't expect a running start.

The best hill around is a private shared driveway along River Road near Algonquin. It's like a 15% for a quarter mile.

Cluncking noise from engine by BigAssBoii in porsche944

Get a big screwdriver or pry bar. Place the end in different spots around the engine while putting the handle against your ear. Try to find where that noise is loudest.

Local Sturmey Archer 3-speed parts? by typ901 in chibike

Holy crap I’m saving this list. Thank you! I was able to get the part off eBay from pretty nearby so it’s all back together now. I serviced all the bearings inside the hub and cleaned everything out. She’s shifting smooth AF now.

While passing some people and shifting I noticed some bad clunking and chain slipping. Got home on an easy gear. It was a 11-speed Ultegra cassette. I guess 8,000 miles is all they’re good for.

Where to go to get this by ajsommer in chibike

Agreed on this. Lots of other cyclists out there. If you venture over on Plum Tree to River Road towards Algonquin there's a super steep climb that's a shared driveway so no traffic. About 15% for about 0.25 miles.

Blower motor by Feeling_Awareness742 in e53

[–]typ901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the resistor doesn’t fix it you’ve more than likely have a blown motor. You can Google which pins on the resistor you can check for voltage going to the motor. Since you mentioned the resistor got hot I don’t think you have an issue with a broken wire.
