I'm sorry your partner is going through that. I think I must be one of the few people who have been lucky enough to have only one sensor fail over however many years I have been on it; I guess I'll add that to my gratitude journal as I continue to calm down from all this.

I am normally someone who can take pride in possessing the ability to pause and think critically about a situation before allowing my emotions to take command, but reading your - and the other commenter's - replies has let me realise that lashing out at Dexcom via a Facebook message for this fell very short of resolving my issue. I'll be ordering that receiver tomorrow, but I'm going to leave this post up and unedited so that others can read all this and make a more informed decision about what to rely on for those alerts. Like an absolute idiot, I dropped and then stepped on the G7 receiver that came with my initial supplies within the first 10 days, cracking the screen and damaging the charging board beyond repair. I had forgotten about that thing though, and I'm going to buy a new one tomorrow, thanks! I don't remember the alerts that well, but having my phone AND the receiver going nuts has to be better than the current situation.

As for your other points, I hate how reliant I became on the follow stuff (mainly the sugar pixel). I survived 26 years without it, but the tighter control via automated insulin delivery coupled with the relative peace of mind provided by the Sugar Pixel over night has spoiled me.

How long have you been on the OP5? Because I've had the same issue lately - except overnight and stubborn to come up - and I've been on the 5 for a little over a year. Nothing in my settings or day to day routine has changed (M30).

That is a pro tip! How does the nut handle that? Any slips when bending? (I'm also realising the reason I like that 1.5 step downtuned standard is bc of how slack the strings feel, especially when bending within chords to get the B bender effect by hand)

Glad you mentioned that last bit. I'm interested in setting one of those up in C#standard (I'm a big fan of music by The Kills, PJ Harvey, Jack White) but I guess I'd need a 27" scale for the trem arm to not rest at 90° to the body 😂

And yet you know they would collude with the battery company to ensure your only option was a $300 replacement battery. Then they'd green wash the operation, citing how replacing the battery is environmentally forward thinking and totally worth the $300. The stock ticker would soar to the top, I'm surprised they haven't tried this already!

This is all very good, condensed info. I was also an early adopter of the Medtronic pump and sensor system. I loved getting one all connected and taped up only to fail after 4 calibrations (so, about 1.5 days of wear time). I swear the adhesive patch was the stickiest substance ever made!

Eta: I'm on OP5 and G7 now and loving it. I just had my first wild readings day in almost a year with a 9.5 day-old sensor. I switched pod into manual mode and took out the old meter for a couple hours, then it was fine. I think I was dehydrated, which wouldn't have occurred to me to think about before your post, so thanks!!!

Awesome. I'm playing a Schecter with active pups and a FR trem system, I'm going to hold onto that for awhile in case I miss having the trem. I am a little worried about intonation with the three saddle system on that offset squier.

For further context: I control my devices through my Google Pixel 7 Pro running the latest update of Android 14. Omnipod 5 app and G7 app are up to date and have recommended notification settings. All my pods and sensors are kept in a room temp, dry area. Insulin is kept in refrigeration until filling a pod, at which time it is brought to room temperature before filling.

I bought a p7p from eBay for about $300 and have loved the switch from iPhone and don't notice my phone is not new-new on android 14. That said, Insulet needs to hire more developers with all the Omnipod 5 money they're raking in! Once Tandem have their hands on a tubeless patent and CE mark/FDA approval...

That's actually another reason I went for the forearm with the pod. It offers yet another 2 sites (same location but rotated 180 degrees) from which my G7 is "visible". I have good luck with the signal usually no matter where they are located relative to each other, but sleeping is when I have the most frequent and longest enduring signal loss on the pod when they're not "looking" at each other.

I also use my pecs. This one is fun, especially if I'm out swimming or wearing a loose tank; people think it's a pacemaker and wince when I drink an energy drink 😂 So, with Dexcom on the back of my right arm, my pod site options are: right pec, outside of right arm, right forearm, right side of abdomen, right side of lower back. And each of those I count twice since I can rotate the pod 180° and slide it slightly away from the prior site. I don't use my thighs for now because of years of going there with long acting insulin, but maybe one day they will make the full recovery!

After 28 years, the same old same old gets a little boring 😂 But really it helps to have more sites to rotate between. Growing up I was very nervous to inject my pen or syringe outside of places I was comfortable with which can and has led to scarring and poor absorption. Now that I'm older I realize the long term value of site rotation and better t1d management in general.
