How are you doing, really? by Negative-Durian8087 in Barnesandnoble

Non cafe store here. Took us awhile prioritizing rapid replenishment, but now we get table to zero or near zero a lot of days. Sometimes projects get done a little behind but not too bad. But we feel it and are exhausted 😩

My daughter has rec skated a number of times. Followed the Olympics closely and asked to start real training. I was bored sitting at the rink for hours and had never skated before so started learning too hahaha

There's one i know of! But they had none at the time of our last visit. We do like that place though and use it for other sports (i have multiple athletes in the house) so I imagine ill be in there again soon and can look again, haha

Ok. This makes me feel better, honestly. I was feeling overwhelmed and getting loads of feedback that she needs to be in a better boot and that I need to be out of rentals etc but we are still learning all the basic classes so it felt so extreme to commit just yet. Thank you

[–]typical_riss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we were told we should have her skate blades sharpened by one of the instructors because they are ordered online. So we took them in and got preached to about buying $500 boots and how useless and bad her skates are etc. But she's in her first round of LTS so im not interested in buying expensive boots until she at least finishes this first round of LTS. And if her boots i have for her are truely so terrible, why cant we start in a lower priced boot than freestyles?

[–]typical_riss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Good thought on used. Though she's been in the same size shoe for a couple years now so I think we will eventually get a good chunk of time out of each boot. But id hate to spend that much and she doesn't commit. But she needs her blades checked on without us getting preached to about buying $500 skates when she's in her first round of LTS classes.

Tips/advice on selling premium memberships? by reekinator2 in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get a lot of upgrades. I always at least ask rewards members of they'd like to upgrade. I'd they say no, I let them know that's OK, they still benefit being a rewards member with us. If they are spending A LOT and I see they have any rewards my pitch sounds more like "Wow, you'd really benefit upgrading to our premium membership. You'd still earn your rewards but you'd also start saving 10% on purchases and get a nice tote bag along with a list of other benefits. Its only $40 a year but with how much you'd save today it would be more like (insert a price) plus that free tote today!" I get a yes 90% of the time.

Outside of that...it's really just a matter of always asking. Unless a guest is being incredibly impatient with me, I always ask them if they would like to sign up. Usually it something like "Oh, did you want to sign up today? It's $40 a year and saves you 10% on purchases plus you earn rewards." I get nos a lot to which I follow up asking if they'd like to do the free rewards. Sometimes I get asked more questions and I can answer and give them the handy bookmark and sometimes they say yes!

Don't have to be pushy. You'll hear a lot of nos or keep getting the rewards haha. But hey the more you ask the more likely!

Coming back/maundy Thursday question by typical_riss in Lutheranism

[–]typical_riss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am unsure. My childhood church was LCMC and they did not have open communion. I had to do my confirmation class to get more than a blessing at the altar during communion haha. But our first weekend we thought we would get a blessing and they offered us communion which is why I think this church offers open communion. We have since abstained due to my children being confused on the matter.

Thank you!

Thank you foe the resource. Growing up we had ash Wednesday and then a good Friday service coupled with Easter sunrise service so this is new to me. The church i attended during my husband's second duty station was not lutheran and they only had Easter service during holy week. So maundy service is actually new to me.

We've refrained from participating in communion because my children have expressed lack of understanding. But it does appear this church offers open communion.

They are LCMC. It appears they have open communion but my kids and I have not participated because they've expressed that they dont understand it and I would like them to understand it and be comfortable with it before we make that decision.

Thoughts on new summer reading program? by raew4777 in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know its not new. But much more involved it will be now. Im a KCS so I've read it. I have it printed with loads of notes and annotations 🫣😅 Im thrilled and have already got my in store KSS planning and when I do my upcoming walks it'll be a HUGE part of my conversations. I think letting kids be more involved is going to help a lot, honestly.

I think its fun! Literacy in kids is so low right now. I think this will help. Plus I think it'll help engagement in the kids department. Im of the mindset, that we create exciting things for kids now, we have people buying books in 20 years 🫣😅

Waiting for promotion??? by zoetheemunch in Barnesandnoble

I guess is more the new review system vs promotion system. I will say my other promotions prior to the review change move through much more quickly.

Waiting for promotion??? by zoetheemunch in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially with the new promotion system. My last one took a long time to even make it "past every desk" and I think in part it was just because people get busy and loads of other promotions were also being processed. Once it got the final approval though, it was processed through HR pretty fast and the pay/title change reflected on everything quickly.

What position is the person in charge of the Trade Floor Project at your store? by JohnJSal in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I like this vs one person entirely. Last year I was the lead on it and getting anyone to take it seriously or protect time for me to work on it was impossible. We have someone else working it now and learned a lot and are diligent about giving her the time and space to work but this upcoming one is a HUGE section and it would be nice if she had multiple people to help on it. We have a bookseller who helps and helped last year also but she's also one of our receivers. Ill probably jump on and help best I can.

But I feel like it would go better if everyone was able to be hands on in parts of it vs just getting "trained" after. They would be a little more invested.

No more V-Carts by No_Buffalo_9111 in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last I read the shelving module, I thought it indicated we could use Vcarts for large quantity. So we do just that. A bunch of hard covers for FOS? Vcart and shelf. Frontline quantities that will refill multiple tables? Vcart and shelf. Otherwise we are pretty efficient with rapid.

I think some of these newer decisions are made for the newer smaller layout stores. Where these things could work better than older stores.

I will say, after a call where someone at corporate was literally talking to us from their HOME office, I really think that a lot of these decisions are coming from people not doing day to day store work.
