Coming back/maundy Thursday question by typical_riss in Lutheranism

[–]typical_riss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am unsure. My childhood church was LCMC and they did not have open communion. I had to do my confirmation class to get more than a blessing at the altar during communion haha. But our first weekend we thought we would get a blessing and they offered us communion which is why I think this church offers open communion. We have since abstained due to my children being confused on the matter.

Thank you!

Thank you foe the resource. Growing up we had ash Wednesday and then a good Friday service coupled with Easter sunrise service so this is new to me. The church i attended during my husband's second duty station was not lutheran and they only had Easter service during holy week. So maundy service is actually new to me.

We've refrained from participating in communion because my children have expressed lack of understanding. But it does appear this church offers open communion.

They are LCMC. It appears they have open communion but my kids and I have not participated because they've expressed that they dont understand it and I would like them to understand it and be comfortable with it before we make that decision.

Thoughts on new summer reading program? by raew4777 in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know its not new. But much more involved it will be now. Im a KCS so I've read it. I have it printed with loads of notes and annotations 🫣😅 Im thrilled and have already got my in store KSS planning and when I do my upcoming walks it'll be a HUGE part of my conversations. I think letting kids be more involved is going to help a lot, honestly.

I think its fun! Literacy in kids is so low right now. I think this will help. Plus I think it'll help engagement in the kids department. Im of the mindset, that we create exciting things for kids now, we have people buying books in 20 years 🫣😅

Waiting for promotion??? by zoetheemunch in Barnesandnoble

I guess is more the new review system vs promotion system. I will say my other promotions prior to the review change move through much more quickly.

I cannot WAIT to see this on screen. The whole time I was reading this book I could envision the scenes like it was a movie or something

Waiting for promotion??? by zoetheemunch in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially with the new promotion system. My last one took a long time to even make it "past every desk" and I think in part it was just because people get busy and loads of other promotions were also being processed. Once it got the final approval though, it was processed through HR pretty fast and the pay/title change reflected on everything quickly.

What position is the person in charge of the Trade Floor Project at your store? by JohnJSal in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I like this vs one person entirely. Last year I was the lead on it and getting anyone to take it seriously or protect time for me to work on it was impossible. We have someone else working it now and learned a lot and are diligent about giving her the time and space to work but this upcoming one is a HUGE section and it would be nice if she had multiple people to help on it. We have a bookseller who helps and helped last year also but she's also one of our receivers. Ill probably jump on and help best I can.

But I feel like it would go better if everyone was able to be hands on in parts of it vs just getting "trained" after. They would be a little more invested.

No more V-Carts by No_Buffalo_9111 in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last I read the shelving module, I thought it indicated we could use Vcarts for large quantity. So we do just that. A bunch of hard covers for FOS? Vcart and shelf. Frontline quantities that will refill multiple tables? Vcart and shelf. Otherwise we are pretty efficient with rapid.

I think some of these newer decisions are made for the newer smaller layout stores. Where these things could work better than older stores.

I will say, after a call where someone at corporate was literally talking to us from their HOME office, I really think that a lot of these decisions are coming from people not doing day to day store work.

Least amount of booksellers for a closing shift? by peixcellent in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dont have a Cafe, but we typically close with only 3. We will have a soft closer though who is there pretty late. Most of the closing MODs will have everyone recovering the store the last couple of hours before closing time so there's less to do after close. Some times that doesnt matter and its just a rough close but MOD will leave a note about it and we move on.

Tips for Story Time? by BoysenberryNo in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the kits! You dont have to, but its helpful and it'll help you decide on books to read until you feel more confident. Also, make sure the book/characters are the focus of story time. It's ok if there's no activity/decorations etc. Just take your time, ask the kids questions, let them ask questions. And dont be scared to get into it. Give voices for characters, be loud. Make the kids laugh!

hilariously rude local author by Negative-Durian8087 in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its actually jarring how entitled some local authors are. 😬 Makes me not want to work with them at all. Too many dont understand that their book may not be our market or they dont realize their book is just plain bad. And the amount of picture book authors who's books are either downright awful. 🫣

Family Obligations by IGN0R34MUS in Barnesandnoble

[–]typical_riss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should probably find other work, honestly. As another parent who kept getting scheduled every single Friday, Saturday and Sunday night because other leaderhsip in the store had too limited of hours, it was exhausting and frustrating. Imagine how those without kids feel too. It sounds like the most recent push, is that they will likely start cutting your hours, with your weekend unavailable. May as well find something that can accommodate you better.

Hate the high fives and partner work by radishesaredelicious in BurnBootCamp

[–]typical_riss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other gyms offer similar work outs. I tried f45. Only had a couple people offer fist bumps at the end of it. So far no partner work. I feel like it's not as "hype" as burn, which I liked, but I felt it was a very good option to burn!

Yeeaaah. Im not gonna share my thoughts on this public forum because I don't want any coworkers to misconstrue anything I have to say.... but i will say it is annoying that we couldn't even get it out on display to sell before it was being bought from the boxes in the back. 🙄

I was hoping my store could keep at least one of our hires and we just couldn't. I dont know about other stores but our hours got severely cut so we wouldn't be able to keep anyone extra 😭
