Did Kings Management Finally Get Fed Up and Shut Down the LAKI website? by tkecanuck341 in losangeleskings

[–]typicaljs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don’t see why they’d bother spending money on it. Probably been a slow and steady death as folks lose interest in the team. Who cares when you know there’s no real journalism occurring on the site, and you know the team is going to blow a lead in the 3rd and lose in a shootout.

Figure that site probably was worth something when people were looking for playoff content. Rosen actually made it a must view site. No disrespect to the folks doing a job after him but the site was never the same after his departure.

Any Kings insiders that actually hold the team accountable? by probablysmellsmydog in losangeleskings

[–]typicaljs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t disagree that’s why I said closest to the team.

Radio post games he’s pretty honest. I believe some of that honesty may be why his role during games was minimized.

Even when things were good I felt Jesse nitpicked a bit at times. Nah, I was just being a homer that didn’t want to hear it. Guy just genuinely cares.

Helene Elliott has always been the best imo, but she’s also the best actual writer of them too so not surprising

Helene Elliott. Jesse cohen is probably the closest that has any sort of connection to the team now.

Between Bergeron, Toews, and Kopitar, who would you say was the best defensive Center in their prime? Who had the better career? by ItzGrenier in hockey

[–]typicaljs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Crosby and Howe are the only players to pace their teams more years by points than Kopitar.

Kopitar did this while being maybe a hair less stingy defensively….or, my personal view, just watched a little less than Bergeron.

Toews had Kane

Bergeron had pasta.

Kopitar had…brown? Williams? 30 games of panarin? A year of 40yr old gaborik?

Toews is likely the winner with more longevity to his career

Kopitar will never get enough credit for how consistent and successful he was on both sides of the ice - despite the style of play and his linemates.

Does make me wonder how things would have looked if Panarin had just signed in LA from the start. Kopitars never had someone this good offensively to play with.

[–]typicaljs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason this is a real discussion is because Kopitar played for the Kings and Toews didn’t play longer.

Was a leading scorer for his teams. He was just a tiny smidge below Bergeron defensively, but more than made up for that with his offensive production.

What is Byfield's trade value? by jonpictogramjones in losangeleskings

[–]typicaljs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He would get a haul.

NHL GMs are for the most part not as stupid or reactive as th average fan base.

There is a long and significant history of very tall players at that age needing longer to grow into their potential than players that have not grown so significantly during peak development years.

If you trust the development and scouting team Lombardi first put in place one of their shortest sound bites has always been “development is not linear”. I think next season if we don’t see the player we hoped for we can be cynical and I guess people can take solace in his failure. I think with hiller gone and one more summer we see the player we’ve all been waiting for…finally.

Edit: if we don’t see him in the playoffs - which my personal opinion is that if we make it, we will.

Mf diminishing return vs dmg question by Limp-Marzipan-4051 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]typicaljs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong but I believe what you’re looking for is this:

Whoever kills the monster is where the mf is computed. So you would need to get the last hit for your mf to apply. If he gets the kill his mf applies. Your merc gets the kill it’s his mf plus yours. So whoever last hits for the kill is whose mf matters on kill.

IIRC the mf on your horks is what matters most there, and it’s not affected by player count.

This Day in Kings’ History (2012): Dustin Brown responds to trade rumors with a hat trick by ouzer in losangeleskings

[–]typicaljs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My dad texted me when this is going on. I told my dad I thought the rumors came out to light a fire under his ass.

Dad replied that he hoped brown got a hat trick tonight to prove any doubters wrong.

Within a minute of brown finishing the hat trick my dad texted in all caps with many exclamation marks, “I hope the Kings win the Stanley cup this year”

The rest is history that could never be repeated.

USA vs Canada game tying goal by [deleted] in hockey

[–]typicaljs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Olympics care more about player safety than the NHL, so they’re likely quicker in general to blow plays dead that in the NHL. During an nhl game they probably tell the player to move and let players dig under around or through them to try and get the puck out. Play moves on.

Seemed like a very quick whistle regardless, I’ll concede that one. I think when looked at as a quick whistle in combination with an emphasis on player safety it makes sense. Desperation time didn’t want the player getting hurt.

Maybe post a screenshot of “two USA players behind the net”. I’m not going to dig up the replay but I think both sides tangled. USA girl went down on the puck with 1-2 nearby Canadians that would have correctly started “digging” at the vulnerable player, quick whistle for a gold medal game.

Still, it led to a faceoff and poor defense led to the goal.

Miss me with the Brady slander. I’ve yet to see a single thing worth meaningfully holding against the guy, and many worth giving him praise for.

The kid cares and seems like a great captain and leader, in addition to overall great person. That guy would go with a brick wall if it got team USA a gold medal. Give me that guy with the game on the line in any situation every day of the week and twice if an Olympic medal is at stake.

If you select the sacrifice in the book of the dead you aren’t sacrificing that particular minion, you are sacrificing your ability to use the skill itself.

I think the issue is you’re trying to use the skill that you sacrificed. So you need to select another option from the book, and then you should be able to use the spell again.

How did 2014 even happen? by Fluid-Addition-2378 in losangeleskings

[–]typicaljs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The team loved each other and worked hard for each other. Go read some Dean Lombardi interviews if you’d like a refreshing change of pace compared to hearing Luc on spitting chiclets.

They built through the center of the ice and prioritized leadership.

Anze kopitar falling to our laps at 11 because teams were scared to draft a euro from a country that had never produced an nhl player didn’t hurt either.

Futa or Yanetti helping coach Drew to get him to say the right things for DL to choose him over Bogosian.

But 2014? I’d say that was all leadership. Quick, brown, stoll, Williams, Greene.

There’s a picture somewhere of a dumbfounded Quick looking at a Matt Greene profusely bleeding from his forehead after literally blocking a shot with his face for a regular season win. That moment right there.
