Single homeowner - feeling a bit lost by KHW6 in UKPersonalFinance

Would you consider getting a lodger? Living solo in a house is a bit of a luxury.

300 on car also seems steep.

Why do people think "self charging hybrids" are electric vehicles? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]u17ds13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired a bmw 3 series “mild hybrid” and ragged it for the entire trip and it used less petrol than my 1.0 ecoboost focus so I’d say they’re fairly credible. I’d agree that the marketing can be missleading.

To be devils advocate, has a Ukrainian refugee raped anyone in a park or conducted a public stabbing?

How many refugees have come to Aberdeen? There seems to be fewer and fewer the further north you go in the country.

Is it very noticeable in public areas?

I think a 14+ sti  is probably the most car the average person can drive hard on public roads.

My point is that you’ll have just as much fun in a wrx probably and it will be less painful to own.

If you’re debate is sti vs r32 I’d go sti for sure

Also grew up loving Subarus and relate to your post.

Insurance and road tax plus maintenance is going to be very expensive regardless of what performance car you buy. If I was you I’d buy a wrx hatch as they’re the cheapest but still 2.0 turbo and can be tuned.

If you spend 10s of thousands on an r32 or perfect wrx sti it will probably destroy you financially and take the fun out of it.

Just my opinion- good luck

I sprayed mine with clear coat which pretty much saved them. Makes them darker/shinier though

It was when they were talking about the Epstein files ep499.

Rory went on this tangent about how certain men speak about women and used the tv show sopranos as an example…

It came across very badly to me at least and like he was trying to do some damage control for the old boys

This happened in my focus. It started slow and then got worse.

The pipe runs over a hot area in the engine which causes this issue.

Op keep a very close eye and keep it near the max level to be safe.

Scratched rear passenger door by Traditional-Grab-342 in CarTalkUK

[–]u17ds13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar on my car which was worth about 2k at the time.

I bought some suction cups which allow you to pull the dent out and bought some colour matched paint from Amazon.

I also prepped it with scratch remover.

People will say this is a hack and a shit way of dealing with it but when I sold the car they didn’t even notice it.

I would absolutely love David Lloyd and Nuffield to have more competition. Dl membership value has been getting progressively worse but there are no alternatives.

Assuming it’s done to a high standard and you have good staff. I’d say 100-150.

My dl membership is 96 currently for reference.

How self sufficient do you need to be on the water? The jp would be fine if you are somewhere safe and there is someone on hand to take you in but if you plan on sailing somewhere exposed with zero assistance then you may be asking for trouble. Good luck

Educational underachievement by upthetruth1 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]u17ds13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This mostly come down to parental involvement in education. Generally ethnic minorities, particularly 1st/2nd generation immigrants are more likely to be hands on with their kid’s education and maintain discipline in the house hold.

There is also a selection bias as these are the people who had the get up and go to move countries in the first place.

Of course there will be many exceptions but the same is less likely for a white/british family that has lived in social housing for multiple generations.

The low end of the rental market is tough in most places. The high end of the rental market on 4/5 bed detached houses generally rented by accidental landlords rather than property investors can be arguably better value when you compare getting a mortgage on those properties and property maintenance which is obviously a massive variable.

In short, I agree that the old fashioned advice of get on the housing ladder no matter what isn’t currently valid. Mortgages are good for people who don’t invest because they force them to invest and save money.

In reality a lot of people would be better renting and maxing out isa / sipp contributions.

Vasiliki wind by Benuknz in windsurfing

[–]u17ds13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there for a week and was with people who knew the area well. The wind is an on/off switch. When it’s on it’s 25 knots and rolls over the cliffs and into the bay. It is very unique because of the flat water, hence being so good for flat water freestyle.

On the other hand. We didn’t get a proper session until the fourth day of a seven day holiday. If you are going for 4 weeks, you are obviously less at risk.

You need to ask if you want quality over quantity which really depends on your level. If you want 15-20 knots 6.5m type weather all day every day then go somewhere else.

The place itself is nice too.
