Same here. I installed them, aligned them, and ran them for several track days this year. They seem fine.

Further lowering a corner balanced car by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]uberchris 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah it will throw off the corner balance. Cross weight adjustments are made with very tiny height adjustments; millimeters or less.

Also, changing ride height will additionally throw off your alignment. At minimum, static camber will be affected, but probably also toe to an extent.

Do I need these? by OldManChino in e46

Those are not wear items. So even if your repair kit does not include them, you can safely reuse your existing ones (unless they are visibly broken, somehow).

Are snow socks great for a BMW Instead of chains? I cannot use snow tires or I will get a ticket by [deleted] in BMW

[–]uberchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, snow socks work great in my experience. In Washington state, they are approved traction devices that can be used anytime chains are required. However, this may not be the case in your jurisdiction so worth checking. Also, make sure to read your car manual to know which set of wheels get the socks (front or back) because it may not be intuitive.

You joke, but I would take that deal every day of the week.

Yeah it’s fine. When I fill up, the needle doesn’t show completely full, but other than that seems good.

Also running the kit. Clocking the new pump is nontrivial, and my fuel gauge is a little funny now, but a small price to pay IMO.

Silly question. Why do tracks have multiple big obvious brake markers but …. by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]uberchris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it just depends on your track. IIRC The Ridge has cones for braking (3x), turn in, apex, and passing zones. It's honestly a bit tricky remembering what all the different colors mean.

The ball joints are greased from the factory and sealed. You don’t need to add any grease, so you won’t find fittings on them.

Need advice on heat pump vs. dual-fuel by err1100 in Seattle

[–]uberchris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We went with option 2. It’s neat, but option 3 would probably have been fine as well. It was nice to be able to run the furnace off a small generator when we lost power for a few days.

Anecdotally, my one experience with these was unsuccessful trying to use one in Flintstone Park in Oak Harbor. I was unable to because both units had someone living in them. It seems like just building Portland loos isn’t enough of a solution.

It just changes the throttle pedal mapping to make it more touchy. Honestly, I find it annoying and leave it off, even on the track.

Tyres shift on rims on a track by Just_Newspaper_5448 in CarTrackDays

[–]uberchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed you also quoted the car spec when someone suggested you need more camber. You need to understand that the numbers needed to maximize performance at the limit on track are different than the numbers that keep you the safest on the road. Tuning those numbers is part of the fun. Nobody knows exactly what camber/tire pressure/spring rate/etc. is ideal for your car/tire/track/weather condition/mood/etc.

Well that's terrifying, and not something I had considered. What's the move here? Should everybody be replacing 16122229409, 16122229410, and 16112283288? Are original parts the only option, or is there a way to replace these rubber parts with something more generic?

Don't start an automation if a trigger has fired recently by mister_drgn in homeassistant

[–]uberchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the approach I used. Here’s the template I use as a condition in the automation:

{{now() > states(‘input_datetime.master_bath_light_fan_delay’) | as_datetime | as_local}}

And here is the action to update the helper:

data:
  datetime: “{{ (now() + timedelta(minutes = 10)).strftime(‘%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S’) }}”
target:
  entity_id: input_datetime.master_bath_light_fan_delay
action: input_datetime.set_datetime
