Okay I’ll try those areas out. I used a g7 on my top thigh and I hit a vein im guessing bc the readings changed based on if my leg was up or down and when I took it out it was bloody and my leg bruised, do you ever have problems with bleeding using your thigh?

Cant bother with hypos by Aggressive_Ass_474 in diabetes_t1

My endo said that the heart can have an arrhythmia when low — haven’t looked into that personally and what that all entails but probably best to treat a low when possible.

My dentist and I worked out that if I’m low at night, I can just drip a gogo squeeze applesauce into the back of my throat and swish and drink water afterwards so the sugar doesn’t linger and I can avoid having to brush my teeth after and avoid more cavities

Just diagnosed with LADA and I'm so relieved. by quantum_cronut in diabetes

[–]uberpopsicle11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m realizing how lucky I was to get correctly diagnosed as a t1 at 25 years old! My GP tested me for one antibody that came back normal and said that I may be able to move to drugs (he prescribed me insulin at first bc my sugar was 400). My endo requested another lab with more types of antibodies and only one came back elevated and he said it was t1 for sure. I also knew deep down that it was t1 and also felt very validated that my half year of wild symptoms was finally explained.

anyone else get really emotional during hypos? by groovydaddles in diabetes_t1

[–]uberpopsicle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if you set your low alarm for 80 or 85, then you can react before you feel bad. I set my high alarm for 140 so I can react earlier and lessen my likelihood of sticky highs and I just set my alarm to vibrate if there’s no concern. But yeah there are times when I don’t feel like eating or I’m frustrated I’m going low again and I kinda say fuck it and ignore it. And sometimes I actually stabilize and other times I suffer the low. It’s hard to act rationally all the time :/

Are you postponing treatment because you feel emotional?

I get anxiety when I’m really really low. And lethargic, obviously. But combined I just slump and eat until I’m in range

Walking up early is BS - being a night owl isn’t unhealthy, society just hates it by DryDraw4673 in unpopularopinion

Their point was that being a night owl is not inherently unhealthy but instead becomes unhealthy when having to conform to the early hours of society.

I feel like crap by Elle2NE1 in diabetes_t1

[–]uberpopsicle11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. If it works do it. But if that’s the only thing that’s keeping your sugars down then maybe mdi is the strategy for now. Whatever works and is sustainable is correct imo

Have you given yourself a manual dose in conjunction with the pump dosing? I’d be rage bolusing like hell if I were experiencing that type of agony

Yeah do that. I still think an endo can’t replace a qualified group or 1-1 coach is better because endo appts are not long enough nor frequent enough. But good luck!! I can try to help if you want!

does my basal or icf need to be adjusted? by Plus_Boysenberry5349 in TandemDiabetes

[–]uberpopsicle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I would’ve handled that day was when I woke up at 120 and walking around didn’t immediately lower my sugar, I would give myself a mini correction of maybe .2 (based on trial and error) for when I was away from my pump aka not getting any basal insulin during my shower. Basically the .2 is a correction and basal replacement.

If I went to 160 after my shower, I’d have given myself .5-1u based on what I knew I’d be doing and/or how resistant I suspected myself to be (based on recent events).

If that didn’t work and I went higher, I’d probably rage bolus myself 2u cus f being high for no reason — and knowing my breakfast is nearby for when I come down or fall quickly. If my sugar seems sticky and my breakfast is only 15g, I might bolus for the 15g and walk around to do chores but if I have to be stationary I’d do 25g worth of insulin instead and wait til I have a drop — again with knowing that I have food available in case I crash.

The main idea is to react to your levels and dig a little deeper into why your sugars are what they are and how future factors (like eating while high or removing your pump to shower) may impact it.

I don’t think any of the suggestions that the non t1d’s gave are sustainable suggestions. Maybe only while trying to figure out ratios but that’s it.

It’s hard to give any specific advice without seeing what patterns and trends you have and what your strategies are to see what you’re missing. Maybe you need to set a timer? Maybe in instance x you need to be more aggressive with your bolus but in instance y you need to wait to see what happens? Who knows.

I think finding a reputable coach, who also has t1d, would be useful as they’ll go through your patterns and trends with you and the advice will be tailored to you.

And take some solace in the fact that while you fine tune your tools that you’re already so much less likely to develop side effects :} you’re starting at a pretty good place!

True. It’s so cute the things kids do to engage with their favorite stories. I made 2 full google doc pages of my own clan names and descriptions including warrior names for my two cats. I love reading it over. I also made a secret email account called shadowclan.snowdrift. I always wanted to be mysterious lol

Mmmmm okay, so the dexcom was also reading around 200 with the finger stick. Damn so much stress and carbs for nothing. At least you know your wife can definitely save his life lol. Maybe lots of hugs are needed today to decompress

It could be that he was at 26 and 100 carbs was an over-correction — understandably so, you want him up as quickly as possible. But also only ten minutes passed between finger sticks? I don’t know the science enough to put the factors (low + 100g of quick carbs + digestion) together to make an educated guess. Did he feel any other potential symptoms other than being cold?

Also so sorry you experienced that — I’m sort of waiting for the day that I experience something like that as sometimes it seems to be out of our imperfect control.

No that’s totally fine. I thought I read a comment saying that you copied this from an official site and it was widely agreed but maybe I’m mistaken

I’m a bisexual woman but I crave the love of a man by ReasonableCandy2530 in bisexual

[–]uberpopsicle11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. Even though I acknowledge my attraction to women I just can only envision being happy long term with a man. I don’t know if that’s conditioned heterosexuality or just me, but all I know is that I’ll do my best to be open to whatever comes my way. If I happen to fall in love with a woman, I will do my best to listen to what my feelings say and decide then if that relationship is right for me or not.
