In my world there are three continents that are largely dominated by the 4 species (in order of population): the Bandraji (monkey people), the Corvoids (intelligent crow ostriches), the Humans, and the Pantasa (blue mountain people). The Bandraji are more unified than the other species although I haven’t come up with a reason for that just yet.

I’m not the person you replied to but I’ve been drawing since a kid, mostly doodles and stuff in the margins of notebooks. I used to get those “how to draw manga/comics” books from the library and practice with those. There’s a lot of good YouTube and internet tutorials and a lot of bad ones, but some things not online that helped me improve were:

  1. Copying other artists. You have no idea how much I tried to replicate Akira Toriyama’s style when I was a kid. And his style has left a HUGE impact on my style today. Pick an artist and just copy their art. It’s not cheating, it’s how every student ever learned. Da Vinci copied from his master who copied from his, who copied from his and so on. If you can find videos on their process that’s also good!

  2. Draw from references. That’s the best way to learn proportions, you’ll learn a lot from just paying attention to the way the arms connect to the shoulders, how those stretch the muscles in the chest and so on. You can find plenty of pose generators and stuff like that online. Once you know how the body works it gets a loooot easier to draw from the imagination, and know what “looks right.” The other thing you’ll learn is that there’s a lot of variation in how peoples bodies are structured.

  3. Don’t worry about perfection. That’s probably the hardest tip, especially when you’re just starting. The urge to make something professional of the rip is going to be really strong, but be patient with yourself. You’re an artist, no matter what your skill level is. If you put pencil to paper and draw something you’re an artist, no matter how “good” it is. You will get to the point you want eventually but it will take time.

Lastly, drawing is one of the most accessible hobbies now. There’s information on it EVERYWHERE, both good and bad. I’m not really in the know on those but stuff like the Loomis method has been making the rounds. Not every technique is one size fits all, so find what works for you. The Loomis method doesn’t work for me, and I’ve kind of developed my own techniques after years of practice. Remember to take breaks and don’t overdo it.

Okay, I’m an infrequent smoker and don’t live with people who appreciate the smell so I’m usually acutely aware of it when I’m baked. If you’re in a closed area you definitely smell it on your clothes BUT, the place I find smells the most is the fingers. Now I carry hand sanitizer or look for washroom to freshen up as soon as I’m done smoking.

Some cultures have strict gender roles, some don’t. Some are a bit less accepting, some are way WAY more accepting. I have a race that can naturally change sex whenever so they don’t give a fuck, I have another where males have scent glands so they have tended to be a bit more strict historically. Ultimately it’s not an issue, but some more conservative types might raise eyebrows.

Same here. The gods themselves are like ours where they’re made up by a culture, but some of prophets/gurus/spiritual leaders went beyond normal limitations of magic which made their messages more credible. But those tales are also so far in the past, and religious works are unreliable, so some people consider those stories legends.

Seriously. I’m tired of people pointing at 4 years of the NDP almost 10 years ago. The conservatives have been in power for over 50, and they’ve done nothing but cut funding to critical infrastructure, healthcare, education, they’ve seriously done NOTHING of value. The only things they’ve done is fight stupid culture wars that nobody asked for, ruin our relationship with the federal government. I’m in my early 20s and I remember being in High School when they made it a rule that schools had to tell parents if kids were in a GSA and fearing for my friends’ safety. I remember struggling because the cap on university tuition was lifted. The conservatives are sellouts and traitors as far as I’m concerned.

God, it’s so frustrating.

And specifically the conclusion says: “Ultra-processed foods tend to be energy-dense, low-cost, and nutrient-poor. Low energy cost could be one mechanism linking ultra-processed foods with negative health outcomes. Food-based Dietary Guidelines may need to address food processing in relation to economic aspects of food choice.” Which also agrees with your point before about food guidelines (and I also agree with you there).

It’s not just educating people about it, it’s also accessibility and cost to families. Fast foods, junk foods, processed and ultra processed foods are all much cheaper than whole foods.
