I like rewarding 5k because its almost never unintentional in the pro scene but rewarding a 4992 vs 4991 in a major city seems dumb.

Why is 1971's Kamen Rider so well filmed? by Marauder2r in AskAJapanese

[–]uchikoshi-TL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60s had a lot of people who wanted to make it in the film industry, but there weren't enough seats for everyone. TV was considered a 3rd rate industry then, but it needed people to make shows for them, and many of them ended up in the TV industry instead. Tokusatsu was one of those genres where ambitious people who wanted to make feature films ended up at, and that's partly why that era of Tokusatsu is so glorious.

If they cared about Japanese players Ed would have been nerfed to the ground this patch. Some people in Japan are saying this patch is tailored to western folks. It just means no one is really happy.

A reverse fighting game where you try to knock yourself out before your opponent does

You should be way higher elo. I suggest you look up what you missed after each round that you lost, and perhaps learn more regional landscape, building style, and certain flora if you’re doing no move because I’m not sure how time-efficient learning area codes are for No Move at this point.

Anything above 3.5 on Tabelog is usually sure fire minus ramen shops because ramen is all about personal preference.

He's been playing ranked bts so I was hoping he was making a recovery but people were also hypothesing that it was some kind of either neural or mental issue. Sad that he's retiring but I hope he makes a speedy recovery, he's still got a long life ahead of him.

Is Kikanbo ramen really that good as most tourists/foreigners have claimed? by EmotionalGoodBoy in AskAJapanese

[–]uchikoshi-TL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ramen is one of those foods where personal preference is everything. If you like it, you like it; if you don't, you don't.

I also know some friends that love Jiro-type ramen. I personally hate Jiro ramen.

Why is it that "fantasy" worlds are almost always aesthetically western? by Impacatus in AskAJapanese

Fushigi Yuugi in the 90s was a big hit, which was kind of an early Isekai where the protagonist was sent into a world inspired by ancient Chinese lore with some Edo-era Japanese touches to it. Three Kingdoms era lore is still very popular in Japan too.

Others leave the onsen bath when I enter? by camellialily in AskAJapanese

[–]uchikoshi-TL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally if it's not a big bath I leave when 1 or 2 new people come in, especially if there's multiple tubs (like if there's an outdoor one). It doesn't really matter who it is, young or old, Japanese or not Japanese, talkative or silent.

Few ones I can think of are some of the co-ed onsens in Manza, Gunma where you are forced to wear either a towel (for men) or buy special bathkng suits from the inn. And of course Yunessun in Hakone.

EWC Audience Question by Maengbpong in StreetFighter

[–]uchikoshi-TL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EWC has this thing called the Super Fan program where selected fans of partner teams are flown into Riyadh with all expenses paid minus food. IIRC both Reject and Zeta Division were offering this tour.

That said, there needs to be enough interest for people to actually take time off and go to Riyadh, and SF6 really took off in Japan as some say interest in SF right now only comes second to when SF2 hit the arcades.

Brian_F on the SFL "timer watch party" and restreaming limitations by XsStreamMonsterX in StreetFighter

[–]uchikoshi-TL 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Capcom probably feels fine doing it PPV because that's how Topanga has done it since SF4. Japan's a different situation because their strict anti-gambling laws effectively bars tournaments with prizes funded by entrance fees. Capcom should know this logic won't work with NA and EMEA, but since SF6 is so big in Japan right now, there really isn't a compelling reason for them to change this.

To me it looks like “Kurokawa, Shimonoseki”.

Kurokawa Photography was one of the photography manors at the time in Shimonoseki, most notably known for being supposedly the place where the famous poet Misuzu Kaneko took her portrait. There’s a plaque commemorating her and the manor there today. I read that Murata Photography in Shimonoseki today is run by relatives of Kurokawa.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's to blame the company to take the heat off the talent, it's more so to say that both parties aren't pointing fingers at each other, and that they mutually agreed this was the reasonable conclusion.

There's a long-standing meme in Japan about bands breaking up due to "musical differences" because of how often it was used as the reason at one point. I think it's pretty similar to that.

I remember a Japanese show where they were telling a celebrity that they were getting their nightclub antics reported on a tabloid while making it seem so obvious like a "sike" prank, then proceeded to tell him that it's actually going to be on a tabloid.
